The Directors Guild congratulated the WGA on its deal with studios after a 146-day strike. “We have been proud to support the writers in their fight for a fair deal and look forward to reviewing the details of the agreement. Now it’s time for the AMPTP to get back to the table with SAG-AFTRA and address the needs of performers,” said the guild in a statement. The WGA agreement is tentative, and needs to be voted on, but was reached without intervention of federal mediators, which has been necessary in past strikes.

President Biden weighed in on Monday. “This agreement, including assurances related to artificial intelligence, did not come easily,” Biden said. “But its formation is a testament to the power of collective bargaining. There simply is no substitute for employers and employees coming together to negotiate in good faith toward an agreement that makes a business stronger and secures the pay, benefits, and dignity that workers deserve.”

That WGA deal set the stage for tonight’s premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” full cast intact, to proceed as planned tonight on ABC. The network was considering postponing the show after at least one competitor, Matt Walsh (“Veep”) bowed out because of the strike.

Dish TV is hiking satellite TV package prices by $5 per month, starting October 12. “The price that we pay for programming continues to rise. In fact, the fastest growing cost we and all other TV providers have is driven by the cost we pay the programmers,” said Dish on its website. “We will continue to work hard for fair deals with these programmers to keep channel costs and the price you pay as low as possible. Unfortunately, you may have observed some channel interruptions because of this.” Dish is currently in a carriage dispute with Hearst.

Three Golden Globes voters have been expelled following complaints about their behavior. Howaida Hamdy, Munawar Hosain and Aniko Navai have had their memberships revoked. Egyptian journalist Hamdy, added to the voting body in 2021 amid an effort to increase diversity, was investigated for allegedly tweeting antisemitic messages and including antisemitic sentiments in her reviews.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Classic game show “Hollywood Squares” is being revived again, and is headed to VH1 as “Celebrity Squares.” Actor/comedian DC Young Fly will host the series from Jesse Collins Entertainment and Hartbeat. “This show offers a fresh interpretation of the iconic Hollywood Squares format, with a focus on celebrating black pop culture,” said Tiffany Lea Williams, EVP Unscripted Programming and Development of BET. “With DC Young Fly’s laugh-out-loud humor, it promises to deliver a fun and exhilarating viewing experience.” “Hollywood Squares” was hosted by Peter Marshall for its first run starting in 1966, aired in syndication with Marshall, then was followed by revivals with John Davidson (1986-89) and Tom Bergeron (1998-2004). The latest iteration premieres Tuesday, October 17 at 8p.

Seasons 1-6 of EstrellaTV reality series “Rica Famosa Latina” launches on The Roku Channel in the US and Mexico on Sunday, October 1. It will be the season six premiere in Mexico.

Green Outdoor syndicated series “A Fishing Story” will expand its distribution by welcoming the American Forces Network to its family of affiliates. AFN will distribute the series to approximately 400,000 US military members and their families serving overseas from Europe to the Pacific region.

Snapchat+ has added over one million users since June, with a total of five million members paying $3.99/month for the premium offering. OpenAI is rolling out a new version of ChatGPT that enables prompting with voice and images. Users of ChatGPT will be able to engage in conversation with the chatbot via a new text-to-speech model, which has the ability to generate human-like audio, and ChatGPT will be able to interpret photos from users to answer questions.

Media platform Teads and OMD unveiled the results of a neuroscience study focused on understanding the attention dynamics of video advertising across Latin America. Analyzing the attention patterns in a Huggies campaign from more than 1,400 participants across Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, Teads and OMD unveiled insights aimed at assisting brands in optimizing marketing investments through strategic audience attention capture.
Key findings from the study cover:
· Importance of Creative Optimization: The study underscored the importance of the value of creative optimization and ensuring that attention is captured on average during the first 2 seconds of an ad. The research indicated that creative optimization directly impacts the campaign’s memorability, with the potential to attract 30% attention to a brand on an ongoing basis.
· Understanding attention loss: Around 46% of attention is drawn away by the environment. Since the environment significantly affects the presentation of ads, this study also shows the importance of leveraging context to boost campaign performance.
· The significance of scroll speed: The dimensions of a mobile phone screen measure approximately 15 cm, while the typical user tends to scroll at a relatively brisk pace of 4.7 cm per second, implying that in a high-scroll speed environment, users tend to miss about one-third of the mobile phone screen.

Telemundo is surrounding the 2023 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final with comprehensive Spanish-language coverage of the match, set to take place Wednesday, September 28, featuring Inter Miami CF and Houston Dynamo FC, airing live on Telemundo, Universo and Peacock. Beginning at 8p, Telemundo will kick off the L coverage with a 30-minute pregame show led by Miguel Gurwitz, along with host Ana Jurka.

Gray Television’s Peachtree Sports Network launches Sunday, October 1, on WPCH Atlanta ch. 17.2. The debut of Fox’s “Krapopolis” delivered a 1.2 Live + Same Day rating among A18-49 and 3.6 million Total Viewers, making it television’s most-watched animation series to debut over the past decade, and the #1 entertainment program among A18-49 for the week of September 18, marking the first time in nearly 25 years an animation series debut was the week’s highest-rated entertainment program.
