Despite evacuations, preemptions and power outages in some markets due to Hurricane Florence, syndicated magazines forged ahead to multi-week highs in the session ending September 16. Inside Edition (3.1 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 11%) was two ticks in front of Entertainment Tonight (14 week high 2.9, up 7%). However, ET (3.0/6 primary run metered market average) finished first among all mags in the Emmy Awards next day coverage. Page Six TV (0.8/2 on September 18) also scored with Emmy coverage, growing 40% and 60% in Chicago year-over-year. Back in the national ratings for the week, the largest magazine increases were recorded by Access (15 week high 1.2, up 9%), Extra (12 week high 1.1, up 10%) and Daily Mail TV (6 week high 1.0, up 11%).
In the off-net and off-cable true crime contests, Dateline (4 week high 1.2, up 9%) had four time the rating of the opening week of True Crime Files (0.3 premiere). Meanwhile, topping everything in syndication for the seventh frame in a row was Judge Judy (16 week high 6.9, up 11%), starting season 23 on a high note. The week’s only other court show moving up was Hot Bench (4 week high 2.1, up 5%), which began its fifth season.
Sunday night’s Season 11 premiere of Nuestra Belleza Latina made Univision the #3 most-watched broadcast network among A 18-34 for the entire night. Overall, the talent competition show reached 4.2 million Total Viewers 2+.
According to Nielsen Media Research, FOX News Channel was the top-rated network in both total day and primetime on Friday, September 21. In total day, the channel averaged 1.6 million Total Viewers and 276,000 in the A25-54 demo.
