HBO Sports laid out plans for its new all-access college football series set to debut in October with the docuseries 24/7 College Football. Four programs will take part – Florida, Penn State, Arizona State and Washington State – as “they meet the demands and challenges leading up to and through gameday.” The series is narrated by Liev Schreiber and will run for four consecutive weeks starting Oct. 2 at 10p with an hour-long special spotlighting the Florida Gators. The series is a collaboration between HBO Sports and Lucky 27 Media and Sport & Story.
“For many years, we have been enamored with the storylines and unrivaled traditions of college football, and we’re excited for the opportunity to expand the 24/7 franchise into the realm of college sports,” said Rick Bernstein, executive producer, HBO Sports. “Viewers will feel the tremendous electricity of some of the best atmospheres in the country, and see the meticulous preparation and challenges facing these programs in the build-up to gameday and during the game action. We are excited for the challenge of delivering a four-part series of four different college programs over a four-week period with the production values and storytelling associated with our 24/7 franchise.”
The 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase is getting an overhaul, with play returning to Las Vegas for the second consecutive year from Dec. 19-22 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The event, which spans four days and features 28 regular season games spread across two courts, will now introduce a tournament format and a $100,000 prize for players on the winning team. Under the new tournament format, teams will be ranked 1-28 based on their records through the first 12 regular season games of the season. The top four ranked teams will be placed into the Championship Bracket while the remaining 24 teams will be placed into six four-team brackets.
FOX Sports lined up a slate of special WWE programming, pre-event coverage and cross-platform integrations leading up to the network debut of Friday Night Smackdown on FOX on Oct. 4. A pair of hour-long WWE specials will anchor the run, beginning with WWE Smackdown’s Greatest Hits, on Sept. 27 at 8p on the channel, hosted by WWE Superstars Charlotte Flair and The Miz. On Sept. 29, John Cena narrates WWE WrestleMania’s Legendary Moments. FOX Sports then rolls out the “blue carpet” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the Friday Night Smackdown Kickoff Show on Oct. 4 at 7:30p with “blue carpet” arrivals and backstage access to celebrities and athletes, as well as past and present WWE Superstars.
NBC Sports delivers coverage of the Premier Lacrosse League’s inaugural Championship on Saturday pitting the Whipsnakes LC/Redwoods LC at 2:30p on NBC. Brendan Burke (play-by-play) and Ryan Boyle (PLL analyst) will call this weekend’s games from Red Bull Arena on NBC and NBC Sports Gold, with Chantel McCabe as a reporter.
FOX Sports will see heavyweight contender Dominic Breazeale join Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini and host Ray Flores to call FS1 PBC Fight Night: Peter Quillin vs. Alfredo Angulo on Saturday at 10:30p. The card features former world champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin dueling hard-hitting Alfredo Angulo in a 10-round super middleweight showdown.
The Indian National Finals Rodeo will be televised, for the first time with RIDE TV carrying the Championship Round live from South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 26. Action from the previous rounds will run on the platform as five one-hour INFR highlight shows in December. More than 400 Native American athletes from 50 tribes in the U.S. and Canada will compete in the Major and Junior-Senior events. PBR brokered the deal with RIDE TV.
