Fox Corp. has acquired TMZ for an estimated $50 million. Founding and managing editor Harvey Levin will continue with the newly situated company, serving as the frontman for “TMZ” and “TMZ Live,” which have aired on Fox’s O&O stations since they debuted in 2007 and 2012.
“Cops” is returning with new episodes on Fox Nation. Most recently on Paramount Network, the series was canceled in June 2020, following the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. However, the show went back into production that fall to produce episodes for international territories. Fox Nation will bow the first four episodes on October 1. Fox Nation is offering all first responders a one-year free subscription its service on September 13.
After a year and a half of filming “The Daily Show” from host Trevor Noah’s apartment, the late-night team has moved into a new studio – the ViacomCBS headquarters at 1515 Broadway in New York City. The Comedy Central show’s Monday, September 13 episode was its first from its new location.
Jeff Bridges, star and executive producer of Hulu’s upcoming drama “The Old Man,” released an update on his health. The actor, who was diagnosed with lymphoma and later COVID-19, shared via Instagram that his “cancer is in remission” and that he was “excited to get back to work” on the series. Originally slated for a 2021 debut, the series had been in hiatus since October 2020.
CBS and the Television Academy announced the first set of presenters for the 73rd annual “Primetime Emmys,” airing Sunday, September 19 at 8p. Meanwhile, “The Tony Awards” named the hosts of its annual ceremony and special concert celebration. Singer/actress Audra McDonald will tackle the duties for the 74th annual awards show, while Leslie Odom Jr. will host “Return to Broadway,” the two-hour concert immediately following the show. “The Tony Awards” live ceremony airs Sunday, September 26 at 7p on Paramount+. The concert immediately follows a 9p on CBS.
FOX News Channel will present live coverage of the California recall election on Tuesday, September 14. “The Story’s” Martha MacCallum will anchor her show from Los Angeles at 3p to cover the gubernatorial race. That night, FNC’s primetime lineup will be live with “Tucker Carlson Tonight” at 8p, followed by “Hannity” at 9p and “The Ingraham Angle at 10p.
Satan is headed back Salem. Nearly 30 years after “Days of our Lives” character Marlena Evans became possessed by the devil, the show will be revisiting the storyline this fall. NBC is promising that “fans can look forward to twists and turns you’d never suspect as well as familiar faces returning to save the day (or not)… this time around.”
Parrot Analytics has partnered with Guinness World Records to reveal the world’s most in-demand TV shows in “Guinness World Records 2022,” slated to be released on September 16. Among the findings: “Game of Thrones” (HBO) led drama and overall with 74.1 times the global average, followed by comic adaptation “The Walking Dead” (AMC) with 62.0 the global average and sci-fi “The Mandalorian” (Disney+) with 57.6 times the global average.

“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” is getting a third act. Disney+ has ordered a new season of the show, following the Wildcats as they leave East High for summer at sleepaway camp. Production is set to relocate from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles and begin later this year.
Hilary Swank will star in and executive produce a drama pilot for ABC. The project hails from “Spotlight” and “Stillwater” director Tom McCarthy. Swank will portray a journalist who moves to Alaska for a fresh start, after a career-killing misstep. “The Untitled Alaska Project” will be written, directed and executive produced by McCarthy through his Slow Pony production company.
Inclusive Media has greenlit “For Nothing.” The 10-part mafia genre crime series is based on the bestselling Nicholas Denmon novel of the same title and centers on the Ciancetta family of Buffalo, NY. The project is being lined up for both domestic and international distribution
Elisabeth Shue, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kyle Chandler will appear in “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber.” It’s the first installment of the Showtime anthology from “Billions” co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The project centers on the internal and external battles of the ride-sharing company.
HBO Max is prepping a spinoff of “The Batman” that will center on the superhero’s longtime foe, The Penguin. The project, which is in early development, is being executive produced by “The Batman” duo of Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves.
Cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry will star in their first-ever preschool educational animated series. WarnerMedia Kids & Family is moving forward with “Tom and Jerry Time” for Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The animated series will teach young viewers the skills they need to explore the world around them.
Netflix and “Unorthodox” creator Anna Winger and her Airlift Productions have struck a multi-year deal that calls for Winger and Airlift to develop and produce international drama series for the streamer. Their first project, “Transatlantic” (wt), is set during the 1940 refugee crisis in Marseille, France.
Casting Notes: Hayley Atwell will voice Lara Croft in Netflix and Legendary’s anime series, “Tomb Raider.”

The third season of “Narcos: Mexico” debuts Friday, November 5 on Netflix. The new season is set in the ‘90s, when the globalization of the drug business ignites.
Colin Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay’s upcoming Netflix limited series, “Colin In Black & White,” released its first trailer on Monday. The six-episode drama explores Kaepernick’s life tackling the obstacles of race, class and culture as a Black adopted child of a white family in Central California. It’s set to debut on Friday, October 29.
HBO’s “Succession” returns Sunday, October 17 at 9p. The nine-episode third season will be available on HBO and HBO Max.
YouTube Originals launches “Growing with Lottie Dottie” on Saturday, September 18. The new kids and family animated series is based on the popular Brazilian kids show “Galinha Pintadinha Mini.”
A&E Network explores mental health in America via two specials under the “Voices Magnified” banner in partnership with OZY. “Voices Magnified: Mental Health Crisis,” bowing Monday, September 20 at 10p, showcases stories of Americans across the country. “Voices Magnified: Youth Digital Crisis,” debuting Monday, September 27 at 10p, examines how the digital world is impacting America’s youth.
“Chuggington: Tales From the Rails” debuts a Halloween-themed episode on Monday, October 18 at 8:25a on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW. “The Spooky Chugger” episode is a tale about a ghost train that floats around the tracks at night making eerie noises and overturning cars.

TransUnion struck a $3.1 billion agreement to acquire Neustar, an identity resolution company that tracks and aggregates consumers’ digital activity for marketing and anti-fraud applications. The deal is planned to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Fuse Media has entered the streaming battlefield, launching Fuse Plus. The service, targeted at a multicultural and millennial audience, is priced at $2 per month for a stand-alone service and available at no extra course to customers of participating pay-TV operators.

Viacom has made a leadership change at Paramount Pictures. Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, will transition oversight of Paramount to Brian Robbins, who has been named President and CEO of the studio. Robbins will maintain his current responsibilities at Nickelodeon, while Gianopulos will serve in an advisory role at Paramount through the end of the year.
