Elon Musk threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League, blaming the organization for Twitter/X’s advertising revenue woes. US advertising revenue is “still down 60%, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!”, said Musk. The ADL has criticized X for its permissive moderation policies. “It is flat out dangerous and deeply irresponsible,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt of Musk’s behavior. “We need responsible leaders to lead, to stop inflaming hatred, and to step back from the brink before it's too late.”

The timetable for Disney’s expected buyout of Comcast’s one-third stake in Hulu has shifted. At a Goldman Sachs conference last week, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said the companies have agreed to start the process on September 30 rather than in January. Roberts also suggested that price for the “scarce, kingmaker asset” will likely go much higher than the minimum valuation of $27.5 billion set five years ago. “We’re excited to get this resolved,” said Roberts.

Y Combinator has cut ties with Indian medical startup Medobed after discovering “irregularies” that violated ethics policies, reports TechCrunch. “If you have anything outstanding with this company, our recommendation is to disengage completely with the company,” wrote a YC partner in an email to prospective investors.

Amazon Web Services is launching an AWS for Media & Entertainment solution area focused on monetization. Through a combination of purpose-built AWS services and Partner offerings, AWS monetization solutions for M&E aim to enable customers to simplify their advertising, licensing, subscription and marketing technology strategies, increase revenue across viewing platforms, and build deeper, more personalized relationships with audiences.

Relo Metrics, the AI-powered sponsorship analytics platform, has launched datasets for the 2022-2023 NFL Season on Snowflake Marketplace. “This information allows customers to correlate any and all visibility of brand activations anywhere the consumer touches/interacts with NFL content, including live and on-demand NFL game content on all platforms from connected TV to social media,” said Jay Prasad, CEO, Relo Metrics.

Global TikTok advertising revenue is set to reach $ 53.95 billion by 2027, according to TradingPlatforms.com. TikTok announced global advertising revenue of nearly $12 billion in 2022. “Over the years, TikTok has gained massive traction, especially from Gen Z, who value the space it provides for self-expression and interest exploration,” said the site’s financial analyst, Edith Reads. “Businesses wanting to reach the much younger generation are considering TikTok as their main advertising outlet. The projected results for 2027 only speak volumes of the desire for businesses, small and huge alike, to interact with the new generation and promote their products, potentially bringing more returns.”

Synamedia unveiled updates to its Synamedia Iris advertising platform. A partnership with the supply side platform Index Exchange connects Synamedia Iris customers with global advertisers.

Tubi has surpassed 74 million monthly active users and logged nearly 4 billion streaming hours for the first half of the calendar year. And the Fox Corp. streamer is just getting warmed up, said Anjali Sud, newly appointed CEO. "Tubi is now watched as much as a top 5 cable network, as audiences continue to embrace our digital-first, 100% free streaming experience,” noted Sud. “The platform continues to scale with 47% growth in ad revenue and 65% growth in total viewing time Q4 over Q4, and we are executing an ambitious strategy to define the next generation of entertainment.”

Roku is laying off 10% of its staff, or about 360 employees. In an SEC filing, the company also said it is “performing a strategic review of its content portfolio, reducing outside service expenses” and “consolidating office space utilization.” Roku anticipates recording an impairment charge of $160-$200 million related to office facilities and an impairment charge in of $55-$65 million related to removing select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform.
