Kicking off the morning during the Breakfast with the Brands panel, Oman Quinones, Chief Strategic Officer, La Reyna, observed that, “Casting can become a proxy for diversity.” The panel agreed that having diversity behind the camera is key to achieving meaningful diversity onscreen. During the Next Big Breakthroughs session, Tyler Moody, GM and VP, WarnerMedia Podcast Network, said of podcasting, “It’s been the next big thing year after year,” but has “finally reached the tipping point of mass consumption.” As for the next big trend? “The big question is, what will capture the attention of all those Game of Thrones viewers?” said Shana Krochmal, Head of Digital.
During the panel Measurement Matters, Sam Armondo, SVP, National Video Intelligence and Investment, Spark Foundry, noted of measurement, “The good news is we have a lot more pieces. The bad news is they don’t all fit together.” Lyle Schwartz, President of Investment, GroupM, had this to say in a “Candid Conversation” with Cynopsis Publisher Robbie Caploe: “I hate data,” said Schwartz. “I think that word is used way too often. I don’t work to find data, I work to find information.” In the closing session about superfans, Michelle Vicary, EVP of Programming and Network Publicity at Crown Media Networks, talked about the enthusiastic viewers of Hallmark Channel’s annual Countdown to Christmas stunt: “The fact that you can merchandise an event on television is the next level of success.”
