09/04/19: The NFL announced a partnership with TikTok to help promote the league

The National Football League is forging ties with TikTok, a leading destination for short-form mobile video, in a new multi-year partnership designed to bring the league to TikTok’s global community. As part of the partnership, the NFL is launching its official TikTok account, with content will include uniquely packaged highlights, sideline moments, and behind-the-scenes footage. Additionally, the NFL and TikTok will partner together around a series of NFL-themed hashtag challenges and marketing opportunities for brands to activate around NFL content on TikTok.
“Partnering with TikTok is a natural extension of our media strategy,” said Blake Stuchin, Vice President, Digital Media Business Development for the NFL. “The platform reaches a fast-growing global audience of NFL fans and future fans. The NFL programming and hashtag challenges are a perfect way to kick off the NFL’s 100th season – with fun, new content that will entertain fans and invites them to celebrate and experience their NFL fandom in a way that’s authentic to the unique experience of TikTok.”

B/R Live locked in a partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, the 2019 UEFA Champions League finalists, to become their US streaming partner for the Club’s International Programming Block. Spurs TV, the Club’s weekly highlights program, will be broadcast exclusively on B/R Live for the duration of the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. “The launch of Spurs TV aligns with our vision to continuously serve this passionate fanbase in the US,” said Hania Poole, GM of B/R Live. “As we begin the 2019-2020 world football season, we will continue to identify additional opportunities to grow the sport domestically and provide fans access to the content that puts them closer to the clubs and players they love.”
HBO Sports and NFL Films are teaming up to profile the relationship between football coaches Bill Belichick and Nick Saban in a feature-length documentary titled Belichick & Saban: The Art of Coaching. The special will premiere Dec. 10 at 9p on HBO and spotlights the four-decade-long friendship between two of the most successful and revered football coaches in the history of the sport. 
NFL Network announced broadcast teams for the network’s coverage of Conference USA football games this season. Throughout NFL Network’s 10-game schedule, play-by-play duties will be handled by Rhett Lewis, Dan Hellie and Dave Ryan on a rotating basis, along with analysts Max Starks, Ben Leber and Michael Robinson. On the sidelines, Molly Sullivan, Ashley Stroehlein and John Schriffen will share duties. The slate begins Saturday at 3:30p with Grambling State/Louisiana Tech.
NBA TV is on deck to exclusively carry the 2019 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony on Friday at 7:30p. Coverage will begin with the 2019 Hall of Fame Red Carpet Show at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Matt Winer alongside Kristen Ledlow and Jared Greenberg. New for this year, NBA TV will provide live coverage of the 2019 Hall of Fame Family Reunion and Awards Show on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7:30p. The annual event recognizes the recipients of the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award (Del Harris and Harry Glickman), the Curt Gowdy Media Award (Marc Stein) and the Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award (Carmelo Anthony, Dawn Staley and TyRone Brown). In addition, this year’s class – headlined by Vlade Divac, Teresa Weatherspoon, Sidney Moncrief, Paul Westphal, Bobby Jones and Jack Sikma – will be celebrated throughout the week via dedicated programming on NBA TV.

Cumulus Media’s Westwood One takes on its 33rd consecutive year as the exclusive network radio partner of the NFL tomorrow with the Packers/Bears. Westwood One will provide play-by-play coverage of the NFL’s 2019-2020 national regular season package of primetime games, plus Thanksgiving Day, and the entire postseason, including Super Bowl LIV in Miami. Westwood One will produce original programming including a 100-part short-form series. NFL 100 on Westwood One will be a daily vignette celebrating top players, coaches, teams, moments, and historical events that have shaped the game and league over the past century.
ESPN’s morning debate show First Take will be returning to Texas Live! in Arlington on Friday as the Dallas Cowboys prepare to kick off their 2019-20 season hosting the New York Giants on Sunday. Friday’s episode will be this season’s first in a series of on-site First Take editions tied to marquee NFL and college football events over the coming months.

ESPN detailed two new campaigns for the fall. The first, There’s No Place Like Sports, emphasizes “that sports is more than scores and statistics; it is a series of stories, revealing the best of human potential and uniting sports fans of all kinds.” The spot is meant to reach beyond the hardcore sports fans to those who tune in to see how these real-life stories unfold. In addition, this weekend ESPN unveiled a new multi-platform campaign in advance of the start of the 2019 NFL season. The campaign, Ready For Football, “celebrates ESPN as the best place for NFL fans to connect with the players, teams and storylines of the country’s favorite sport, 365 days a year.” Richmond, Virginia-based creative agency Arts & Letters Creative Co. was the creative agency for the campaign.

ESL and DreamHack are teaming up for ESL Pro Tour, linking a circuit of over twenty Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments and leagues that will feature an aggregate prize pool of over $5 million for 2020 from competitions on five different continents, making it the world’s largest and most lucrative circuit in Counter-Strike’s 20-year history. The slate will now combine multiple previously unconnected ESL and DreamHack tournaments into one narrative that builds toward two grand championships each year. Tournaments in the ESL Pro Tour will be organized into Challenger and Masters levels. The Challenger level will include DreamHack Open, the Mountain Dew League and ESL’s National Championships. Meanwhile, the Masters category will be anchored by arena tournaments with $250,000 or more in prize money and will include ESL One powered by Intel, Intel Extreme Masters, DreamHack Masters and the ESL CS:GO Pro League.
The Houston Business Journal writes that Lee Zieben, a Houston real estate investor who recently agreed to purchase the Houston Outlaws, is also adding eUnited eSports under his umbrella. eUnited won the 2019 CWL Championship, as well as the CWL Finals, finishing the Black Ops 4 season as the top team in Call of Duty. As such, Zieben has submitted a bid to acquire the Houston spot for the franchised Call of Duty league. The report also states that Zieben is “in the process” of raising $50 million to finance an “esports-focused” holding company.
