Good morning. It’s Thursday, August 28, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

SiriusXM and Bleacher Report announced the upcoming launch of SiriusXM Bleacher Report Radio, a new satellite radio channel slated to debut on Sept. 2. The channel will run on Sirius channel 93 and XM channel 208. The new channel will now feature a daily lineup of shows hosted by the likes of Will Carroll, King Kaufman, Dan Levy and Josh Zerkle, as well as daily contributions from B/R’s roster of writers and contributors. Featured hosts will also include former NFL linebacker Kirk Morrison, broadcaster Nicole Zaloumis and others.
 
The schedule tips off at 7a on Sept. 2 with The Morning B/Reakaway, hosted by Dan Levy and Josh Zerkle, followed by Nicole Zaloumis hosting B/R Spotlight at 10a and Will Carroll and Jason Goff handling B/R Afternoon Drive at 3p. At 6p, King Kaufman hosts Content Is King, an hour-long look at sports and sports media with top Bleacher Report talent.

ON THE AIR

NFL Network is launching NFL GameDay Live on Sundays this season, a new series that offers 6.5 hours of instant highlights and analysis of the day’s ongoing games starting at 1p. The program will also carry live fantasy updates and reports, live press conferences and 1-on-1 interviews, as well as live reports from game sites. Kevin Frazier joins NFL Network as host of NFL GameDay Live, and will join Dan Hellie and analysts Heath Evans, Brian Billick, LaDainian Tomlinson and Daniel Jeremiah.
 
ESPN is shifting Olbermann to 5p as a half-hour show on ESPN2 starting Sept. 8. The Keith Olbermann-hosted series will continue to be produced live from ABC’s Times Square studios in New York City and will be followed by Outside the Lines, hosted by Bob Ley. The revised show format will now feature a slate of new analytical, entertaining and occasionally offbeat highlight treatments. Interviews and contributors will remain part of the content mix of Olbermann. The move will also allow him to occasionally return to SportsCenter for the channel.

ESPN hits the 2014 college football season this year with the music of Maroon 5, Florida Georgia Line and 17 acts from Columbia Records, including Pharrell Williams, Iggy Azalea, T.I., Rita Ora, Jack White and more. Maroon 5’s “It Was Always You” will be the featured song on every Saturday Night Football Presented by Windows telecast this season and the group and ESPN will also collaborate on a video of the song for exclusive use on Saturday Night Football. The new Florida Georgia Line single “Anything Goes” will be the exclusive song for every ESPN Friday night telecast this season.

CBS Sports Network’s college football lineup kicks off this weekend with five games, including Ohio State/Navy on Saturday at noon. CBS Sports’ lead college football announce team of Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and reporter Allie LaForce call the action from Baltimore. Primetime coverage on Saturday includes Northern Arizona/San Diego State at 7p and Washington/Hawaii at 10:30p. The action kicks off tonight at 8p with Tulane/Tulsa.

Meanwhile, ESPN will offer the Outside the Lines Special Report: Washington’s Nickname  An NFL Dilemma on Sept. 2 at 8p on ESPN2 at 11p on ESPNEWS. The special includes a look at the Redskins name controversy and hosted by Bob Ley. The program will include an in-depth conversation with team owner Daniel Snyder as well as Amanda Blackhorse, the named plaintiff in the case known as Blackhorse et al v. Pro-Football Inc. and NBC’s Bob Costas. Outside the Lines will also reveal the results of three separate polls gauging how NFL players  including Washington Redskins players — and the general public feel about the team’s nickname. 

Tennis Channel has lined up a documentary special celebrating the life and career of Arthur Ashe in Signature Series: Arthur Ashe during the 2014 US Open. Ashe’s first authorized television biography debuts Aug. 31 at 11p following the conclusion of Tennis Channel’s US Open coverage. His brother Johnnie Ashe, Ambassador Andrew Young, sports writer Frank Deford and tennis icon Billie Jean King are among those featured with other interviews that include Rod Laver and Cliff Drysdale, and tennis chroniclers Richard Evans and Steve Flink.

MLB Network will showcase a Labor Day prime time showdown with Bob Costas, Jim Kaat and Tom Verducci on microphone duties for the Nationals/Dodgers game on Sept. 1 at 8p.

CSI Sports inked a multi-year carriage deal for its 24/7 FIGHT SPORTS Network with network provider ONO, becoming Spain’s first TV channel dedicated to supporting the entire genre through exclusive live events and original programming.

Daytona International Speedway announced that CommScope, Inc., a global company offering infrastructure solutions for communications networks, signed on as the first technology partner in the expanding “We Built Daytona” marketing platform supporting the $400 million DAYTONA Rising redevelopment project. CommScope will deploy a new communications infrastructure at DIS that gives the facility “the bandwidth and flexibility to offer services that will enhance a fan’s experience, as well as improve stadium operations.” CommScope will also deploy approximately 220 miles of SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL Category 6 cable, 50 miles of TeraSPEED single mode fiber optic cable and all terminations supporting digital signage and way-finding, more than 1500 HD displays, synchronized stadium-wide messaging, Wi-Fi connectivity in social areas, and an enhanced audio experience.

Lencheski will lead his Phoenicia Sport team and focus on brand advertising strategy, inventory management, direct response, paid programming, and will also oversee growth of existing digital platforms as the network transitions to broadcast. Lencheski most recently served as the President of Comcast-Spectacor subsidiary Front Row Marketing and Front Row Analytics.
