Sunday’s season two finale episode of The Jim Gaffigan Show will be its last. “After two great seasons, we have mutually agreed to not move forward with season three,” said TV Land. Noting that he acted in almost every scene and his wife, Jeannie, was showrunner, Gaffigan said of the show inspired by his life, “We worked with an amazing cast and crew, learned tons and laughed so much. However the time commitment to make the quality of show we wanted was taking us away from our most important project, our five children.” While the comedy was well-reviewed, it had been averaging just under 500,000 viewers in Live+SD Nielsens.
Done deal: Comcast closed its acquisition of DreamWorks Animation, which will fold into NBCUniversal’s Filmed Entertainment Group. The $3.8 billion deal was announced in April.
The BBC’s dismissal of Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson last year after he assaulted a producer might have been a mistake, suggests Mark Thompson, former Director-General of the BBC, who left in 2012 to become CEO of The New York Times Company. “I don’t think people should punch their colleagues. It’s hard to keep them if they do,” Thompson told Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine. “But I would say his pungent, transgressive, slightly out-of-control talent was something the BBC could ill afford to lose. He spoke to people who didn’t find much else in the BBC.” Post-Clarkson, the Top Gear season finale delivered an all-time low 1.9 million viewers.
Judge George Phelan granted the request of Sumner Redstone’s granddaughter, Keryn Redstone, to review the settlement between National Amusements and Viacom that resulted in Philippe Dauman’s exit with a $72 million severance package. “Keryn Redstone seeks these documents so that she can review for herself whether the settlement adequately protects Sumner Redstone and the trust beneficiaries, or whether it is a back-room deal between Shari Redstone and others seeking to benefit from Redstone’s media empire,” said Keryn Redstone’s attorney, Pierce O’Donnell, in a statement. “On Friday, Judge Phelan will also decide whether Sumner Redstone will undergo a mental examination to evaluate his competency and susceptibility to undue influence.”
Former Fox News Channel host Andrea Tantaros filed a lawsuit on Monday alleging FNC executives retaliated against her after she complained about inappropriate behavior from former CEO Roger Ailes. Tantaros claims she was demoted from The Five to daytime program Outnumbered, and advised to cease her complaint. Tantaros’ is the latest allegation to emerge after Gretchen Carlson’s claims of sexual harassment led to Ailes’ exit.
