Most recently, the company unveiled DraftKings Marketplace, an NFT ecosystem designed by the company for “mainstream accessibility” with its first Preseason Access Collection dropping later this week. The exclusive debut content will be provided by Autograph, and includes Preseason Access Passes from athletes such as Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Tony Hawk, Naomi Osaka, Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods and more. Each featured athlete will begin by dropping a limited number of NFT collectibles categorized as the Premier drops and Signature drops within the Preseason Access Collection.
Meanwhile, DraftKings and Golden Nugget Online Gaming entered into a definitive agreement for DraftKings to acquire Golden Nugget Online Gaming in an all-stock transaction that has an implied equity value of approximately $1.56 billion. The acquisition will enable DraftKings to leverage Golden Nugget’s brand, iGaming product experience and existing combined database of more than 5 million customers. “Our acquisition of Golden Nugget Online Gaming, a brand synonymous with iGaming and entertainment, will enhance our ability to instantly reach a broader consumer base, including Golden Nugget’s loyal ‘iGaming-first’ customers,” said Jason Robins, DraftKings’ CEO and Chairman of the Board. “This deal creates meaningful synergies such as increased combined company revenues driven by additional cross-sell opportunities, loyalty integrations and tech-driven product expansion as well as technology optimization and greater marketing efficiencies. Canada’s CBC television, streaming and digital platforms report that that Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 saw CBC score record high digital audiences and also ranking as the most-watched TV network in Canada throughout the Games. CBC’s digital and streaming platforms saw Canadians streaming more than 37 million video views since the beginning of Tokyo 2020, up 62% over PyeongChang 2018, which had a similar time difference of 11 to 16 hours for viewers in time zones across Canada. Additionally, live views made up 61% of all video views, highlighting the increasing popularity of live streaming on CBC digital platforms, and Connected TVs accounted for about 68 percent of the total time spent streaming. In total, Canadians consumed nearly 17 million hours of digital Olympic content on CBC digital platforms. On television, 28 million viewers or 3 in 4 Canadians tuned in for Tokyo 2020 coverage on CBC/Radio-Canada.
CUMULUS MEDIA’s Westwood One and the NCAA entered into a multi-year renewal, maintaining Westwood One’s place as the official network audio broadcast partner of the NCAA. Under the terms of the deal, Westwood One retains exclusive broadcast radio, digital audio, distribution, and licensing rights for all 90 NCAA Championships, including the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments and the Final Fours.
ESPN announced that Holly Rowe will join the ABC Saturday Night Football team this fall where she will take on the sideline reporter role for the franchise, joining play-by-play commentator Chris Fowler and analyst Kirk Herbstreit as she kicks off her 26th season covering college football for ESPN and ABC. The National Lacrosse League announced that the induction of the NLL Hall of Fame Class of 2021 presented by GAIT Lacrosse and 2021 NLL Entry Draft will be held in Buffalo on Aug. 27 and 28. The league will present comprehensive and expansive broadcast coverage of the 2021 Entry Draft. The first two rounds will be carried live on TSN’s digital platforms in Canada. Bandai Namco began rolling out plans for the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Championship with a new circuit. The EA SPORTS Madden NFL 22 Championship Series returns with some tweaks as top players compete in four MCS marquee tournaments closely tied in to key NFL season moments. The MCS 22 features the largest prize pool in franchise history with $1.65 million on the line and the Ultimate Madden Bowl season finale, played live in Los Angeles, dishing out $1 million of the season purse. Ultimate Kickoff begins the action from Aug. 21-Sept. 8, followed by Ultimate Thanksgiving from Oct. 2-Nov. 24 and Ultimate Wild Card, ending Jan. 14.
