Comedy Central’s Emmy- and Peabody-winning series South Park is celebrating its 20th season with a new logo, and a parade of on-air, online and on-the-ground events. Upcoming are the launch of a redesigned South Park app and new Avatar Creator; the release of videogame South Park: The Fractured But Whole; the South Park 20 Experience and a traveling art exhibit. Season 20 premieres September 14 at 10p on Comedy Central.

A&E has set a checkout date. The fifth season of the net’s Psycho prequel Bates Motel will be its last.

The Vampire Diaries will return for its eighth and final season on October 21, series creators announced at Comic-Con.

Legends of Chamberlain Heights received a Season 2 renewal from Comedy Central, two months ahead of its Season 1 debut. The network announced the early pickup for the animated coming-of-age series at San Diego Comic-Con.

MTV series Teen Wolf’s final howls will come in the series’ sixth season. The network will bid farewell to the popular series with a new 20-episode season that premieres in November. The finale, airing in 2017, will be the series’ 100th episode.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Production has begun in LA on Freeform’s new original series Famous In Love, a one-hour soapy drama that spotlights the dark side of fame. From I. Marlene King (Pretty Little Liars) and Warner Horizon Television, series is based on the novel by Rebecca Serle about an ordinary college student who gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. Series stars Bella Thorne (The Duff), Carter Jenkins (The Following), Charlie Depew (The Amazing Spiderman) and Georgie Flores (CSI). It’s produced by Long Lake Media, Farah Films and Carmina Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.

Syfy renewed its comic book adaptation Wynonna Earp for a second season, slated to premiere in 2017. Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes; Syfy last year acquired the Canadian series based on the IDW Publishing comic, created by Beau Smith.

More hidden camera pranks are on the way from truTV. The network renewed its series Impractical Jokers for a sixth season. This 26-ep season 6 is strong vote of confidence. The series’ most recent premiere, the hour-long Impractical Jokers: British Invasion summer special, debuted on July 14 as the No. 1 series in its timeslot among A18-34, A18-49, Men 18-34, and Men 18-49, according to Nielsen L+3 research.

Chris Bishop, exec producer of The Goldbergs, signed a two-year overall deal with Sony TV, the studio home of the ABC comedy. Bishop will continue his role on The Goldbergs and also will develop new projects with Doug Robinson of Happy Madison, which co-produces The Goldbergs.

COMING UP

Univision Deportes will bring soccer fans coverage of the MLS All Stars game against Arsenal FC, a member of England’s Premier League. The MLS All Stars versus Arsenal FC match will be broadcast live from Avaya Stadium in San Jose, CA, on UDN and UniMas on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30p.

Freeform is commemorating Harry Potter’s birthday with a three-day programming event of Potter films starting on Friday, July 29, through Sunday, July 31. As part of the festivities, the network will make the documentary Tom Felton Meets the Superfans available to watch on the Freeform App. The film gives a unique insight into the world of superfans and celebrity from the perspective of Felton, who portrays Draco Malfoy.

It’s a little early to bust out the candy corn, but this October it will be Halloween all month long on Destination America. The network’s Ghostober celebration will feature spooky premieres and programming culminating in the two-hour Paranormal Lockdown Halloween Special, premiering Friday, October 28 at 9p. The special follows paranormal all-star Nick Groff and ghost hunter Katrina Weidman from Destination America’s series Paranormal Lockdown as they investigate the Black Monk House in Yorkshire, England, known to some as the home of the most violent poltergeist activity in history.

DISTRIBUTION

Walk On: Fox announced season 7 of The Walking Dead will premiere internationally on October 24 across all Fox channels outside the US in 125-plus markets within 24 hours of the series’ October 16 bow on AMC in the States. International fans will be able to tune in to the much anticipated season’s premiere October 17 worldwide. As in previous seasons, the show’s seventh season of 16 episodes will air in two parts, with the first eight episodes kicking off internationally October 24 and the final eight returning February 2017.
 

CASTING

Scream Queens co-creator Ian Brennan announced Saturday Night Live‘s Cecily Strong will guest in season 2 of the Fox horror comedy, which is set in a hospital. Strong will portray a patient at the facility.

Luke Mitchell (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Michelle Hurd (Law & Order: SVU, Daredevil) are joining the cast of NBC’s Blindspot for season 2. They will play operatives from Jane Doe’s past. Show creators also revealed fans will learn Jane Doe’s identity in the new season.

Princess Jasmine, Aladdin and Jafar are headed to ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Karen David (Galavant) will play the Arabian princess in the upcoming sixth season of drama series, joining Deniz Akdeniz as Aladdin and Oded Fehr as Jafar.

Khary Payton (Lego Movie, Teen Titans Go!) will play King Ezekiel in the upcoming season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Matt Letscher (The Flash) will join CW series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular. News follows deals earlier this summer with Wentworth Miller and John Barrowman, whose characters will appear on multiple shows.

Rita Ora is getting runway ready. The singer and actress will host VH1’s reboot of America’s Next Top Model, slated to premiere in the fall. VH1 also announced the judging panel for the show: model Ashley Graham, Paper Magazine chief creative officer Drew Elliott and celebrity stylist Law Roach. Show creator Tyra Banks and Ken Mok continue as executive producers, with Banks making surprise appearances throughout the season.

Kristin Chenoweth has joined the upcoming Starz series American Gods, based on Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel, as the goddess Easter.

Gabriel Luna (Wicked City, True Detective) will play the iconic character of Ghost Rider in the upcoming fourth season of ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Janina Gavankar (True Blood) will get a guest-starring role in the fourth season of Fox drama series Sleepy Hollow. She’ll play Diana, a new character who’s a potential partner for Tom Mison’s Ichabod Crane.

Rihanna has been tapped to play the role of Marion Crane, formerly played by Janet Leigh, in the fifth and final season of A&E drama series Bates Motel.

DIGITAL DOINGS

The CBS All Access reboot of Star Trek will be called Star Trek Discovery, showrunner Bryan Fuller announced at Comic-Con. The project, slated to debut in January 2017, will be directed and exec-produced by David Semel.

RATINGS

According to Nielsen data across 10 commercially supported networks, an estimated 32.2 million people watched Donald Trump’s speech on the final night of the 2016 Republican National Convention. That number is up compared to the final night of the RNC in 2012, watched by 30.3 million. This year Trump’s numbers are cumed across ABC, CBS, NBC, Univision, CNN, Fox Business Network, FNC, MSNBC, CNBC and NBC Universo, according to Nielsen.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.2/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS grabbed the No. 1 spot at 8p with The Big Bang Theory and Life in Pieces combining for 1.2/6, followed by NBC’s Spartan Team Challenge with .9/4. At 9p, CBS’ Big Brother gained ground topping with 1.7/7. The second part of NBC’s Spartan Team Challenge was second with 1.0/4. At 10p NBC topped with 1.1/4 for its coverage of the Republican National Convention, followed by Telemundo, with .9/3 for Senora Acero 3.
