Snapchat
is getting a bit less ephemeral. The app has introduced Memories, a new feature allowing users to back up a Snap or Story to Snapchat’s servers. The update establishes a new Memories gallery for the purpose. The change will make it easy for users to weave old Snaps and Stories into longer bits of content.
 
Comcast has reached a partnership with Netflix. Under the deal, Comcast customers will be able to use the streaming service through their Comcast set-top boxes – just like a cable channel. The new feature will incorporate Netflix into the Comcast “X-1” box.
 
The Information has some new info about YouTube’s upcoming skinny bundle of live TV offerings. According to The Information’s report, the upcoming service, called Unplugged, is close to inking deals to include ABC, CBS, ESPN, and other major networks. When the service debuts, it is expected to cost about $35 per month. 
 
 

MEASUREMENT
 

The social media analytics firm Shareablee has introduced Velocity, a new dashboard tool allowing clients to see what content people are engaging with in real time. The Velocity system ranks by rate of engagement, as opposed to total engagement, which Shareablee says will allow content producers to observe posts that are in the process of going viral. Velocity’s features include the abilities to track trending video, measure content velocity and impact, and access custom recommendations regarding social media strategy.

NBC recently announced that it has launched its TV Everywhere app on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One gaming consoles. The app features full season stacking of several NBC shows. It will also pre-release certain acts from America’s Got Talent before linear airing.
 
 

DEALS + COMPANY ACQUISITIONS

 
Google has acquired Anvato, a software provider geared toward encoding, publishing, and distribution Internet video. The move signals Google’s desire to improve its OTT services for media clients. Anvato’s technology – and its team – will be integrated into the Google Cloud Platform group. Deal terms weren’t disclosed.
 
 

PROGRAMMING + CONTENT ACQUISITIONS
 

The DirecTV channel Audience Network has launched Snack On Fullscreen, a set of weekly and daily programming blocks featuring content from Fullscreen Media. The content was previously available only on Fullscreen’s recently-launched SVOD service. AT&T, which owns DirecTV, also co-owns Fullscreen, as part of a joint venture with the Chernin Group.

 

Fusion Media Group announced the launch of TrackRecord, an English-language vertical geared toward music, identity, and social justice issues. The vertical will feature daily news stories, analytical features, artist profiles, video series, documentary projects, and events. TrackRecord will be active across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and at TrackRecord.net. Jeff Ihaza, previously a host for the Viceland cable network, has joined TrackRecord as Managing Editor.
 
The Internet TV provider FilmOn TV Networks has partnered with the content and software services provider Oi2 Media Corp. Oi2 will add hundreds of Spanish-language channels and radio stations to filmon.com. Those will include news, sports, and music brands, among other categories.
 
Apparently the NFL wasn’t enough. According to Re/code, Twitter is in talks with the NBA, Major League Baseball, the MLS, and the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Twitter hopes to gain rights to both live game footage and pre- and post-game analysis. The company will begin live-streaming Thursday Night Football games this coming NFL season.

The video marketing platform Innovid has hired John Piccone as its new Chief Growth Officer. In the new role, Piccone will be tasked with driving revenue and business development, and overseeing U.S. sales. Piccone joins Innovid from Simulmedia, where he served as Chief Strategy Officer.
 
BitTorrent has hired Harrison Bohrman as News Director. Bohrman will be tasked with leading the development, planning and production for BitTorrent News, the company’s upcoming live-streaming news network. He most recently as a senior development producer at Viceland, Vice’s cable network. Before that, he spent five years as a producer and writer at CNN.
 
Studio71, the MCN and multi-platform media company owned by the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, has named Matt Seiler as President of Marketing Solutions. Seiler will report to Studio71 CEO Reza Izad. Seiler most recently served as Chairman of IPG Media Brands.
 
Kargo, a mobile marketplace for premium brand advertising, has hired Greg Cappello as Vice President of Product Marketing, a newly created position. In the new role, Cappello will help lead all marketing efforts related to Kargo’s mobile advertising products. He most recently served as Vice President of Product Management at the digital ad services company Undertone.
