Comedy Central’s “Tha God’s Honest Truth” will have a new name – “Hell of a Week” – and a new format for season two. “I’m thinking enough shows talking about problems; I want to discuss solutions,” said Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey. “Regardless of if the conversation is politics, entertainment, or just some random f**k sh** going on in the culture, ‘Hell of A Week’ will be a safe space for free speech & a safe space for comedy. Basically, if you don’t want to be ‘canceled,’ this isn’t the show for you.” The late-night series is executive produced by Charlamagne Tha God and Stephen Colbert.

Media agency Palisades Media Group, whose clients included Netflix and Orion Pictures, abruptly shut its doors after 26 years. An email was sent to staffers of the self-described “Employee-Friendly company!” alerting them its offices were closing, effective immediately.

HBO Max has canceled adult animated comedy “Close Enough” after three seasons. “We are so proud of the series and grateful to creator JG Quintel and our partners at Cartoon Network Studios, who made this show an instant fan favorite on HBO Max,” said a statement from the streamer. “Close Enough” was ordered to series by TBS in 2017, moving to HBO Max for its debut in 2020.

Four months after surviving a deadly attack in Ukraine, in which two of his colleagues were killed, Fox News correspondent Ben Hall “looks incredible,” said Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott. Scott was among those visiting Hall in Texas’ Brooke Army Medical Center to deliver a 40th birthday card. “He is truly an inspiration,” wrote Scott to the Fox News staff. “His progress over the last four months has been nothing short of remarkable.”

Prime Video’s upcoming spin-off of series “The Boys” has a name. Set in a college for young superheroes, R-rated “Gen V” explores the lives of “hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities.”

As LA moved to a high-level community spread of COVID, guilds including SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild of America extended COVID protocols until September 30. “The Agreement keeps in place the workplace protocols and protections that have allowed for a sustained and successful return to work while at the same time allowing flexibility to address the changing nature of the virus,” said a statement from the groups.

Ánima is partnering with Green Kids Club on its original property, “Victor and The Infinite & Mysterious Hallway of Loos.” The comedy action-adventure celebrates the challenges and victories of a middle school “Every Kid” who finds his inner hero and a sense of belonging, when flung into a blended-family of diverse “ethnic and immortal” backgrounds.

Production companies spent a record $855 million in New Mexico on TV series and other media in the fiscal year ending June 30, up 36% from the previous year. “Due to the work we’ve done to foster a successful environment for production and build a thriving base of talented local crews, film and television productions from around the world are putting money directly into New Mexico communities, supporting our small businesses and creating jobs for thousands of New Mexicans,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Projects filming in the state include Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and AMC’s “Dark Winds”; Netflix and NBCUniversal have production hubs in Albuquerque.

DAZN Group has partnered with KSI and his promotional company Misfits Boxing, in association with the Sauerland brothers, Wasserman Boxing and Proper Loud to launch the “MF & DAZN: X Series.” The series will showcase big names in entertainment, sport, and lifestyle facing each other in boxing events. The premiere will be headlined by KSI, as the British phenom look to avenge his brother’s loss against American YouTube sensation Alex Wassabi, on Saturday, August 27.

UCLA’s plan to decamp the Pac-12 for the Big 10 conference is facing objections from the state of California. Gov. Gavin Newsom told Fox News he learned about the move by reading the news in the paper, because the school “didn’t even have the decency to give advance warning” to the University of California System Board of Regents” – of which Newsom is Chair. “Trust me when I say this: we’re not going to investigate,” said Newsom. “We are investigating.”

NESN and Jomboy Media have struck a content partnership that includes the creation of content exclusively for NESN’s new streaming service, NESN 360. Right off the bat: five-part mini-series “Unrivaled: Red Sox vs. Yankees.”

The Professional Fighters League is launching PFL Europe, a new international league debuting in 2023 with events that will all be staged in European countries, broadcast and streamed primetime in Europe, and feature the top emerging European MMA fighters. Top fighters from Europe will compete on both the August 13 Cardiff and August 20 London cards, in hopes of earning a contract in PFL Europe.

NBC Sports reports that it has scored its most-watched Open Championship through two rounds, with Thursday and Friday’s viewership on USA Network up 20% vs. 2021 and up 22% vs. 2019. Cam Smith took home the championship on Sunday.

Major League Baseball agreed to pay minor leaguers $185 million in a move to end a federal lawsuit alleging violations of minimum wage laws. According to reports, early estimates project that perhaps 23,000 players could share the money with an average payment of $5,000 to $5,500. If approved, $120,197,300 will be split among the players, $55.5 million will go the players’ lawyers and up to $5.5 million will cover reimbursement costs of the suit.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Season two of preschool series “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends,” from Disney Branded Television, premieres Friday, August 19 with a simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior (8:30a). An initial batch of episodes will also be rolled out on Disney+ and on-demand platforms this fall.

Dramedy “Send Help” makes its debut Thursday, August 11 on ALLBLK. The series follows a first-generation Haitian actor (Jean Elie) struggling to conquer his feelings of imposter syndrome, the Hollywood community, and high maintenance family.

Allison alters her plan to escape her miserable marriage in season two of “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” kicking off with two episodes Monday, August 22 on AMC+. Subsequent episodes will be released one week ahead of AMC.

A new season of “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” launches Tuesday, August 9 at 10p on TLC.

STREAMING

To mark the 15th anniversary of AMC drama “Mad Men” on Tuesday, July 19, viewers can revisit all seven seasons of the series commercial-free on AMC+. Fans are also encouraged to share their favorite moments from the series on, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, via the AMC and Mad Men social handles.

The monthly price for ESPN+ will be hiked from $6.99/month to $9.99/month, effective August 23. “While it is a significant change to the price, it’s reflective of the increased scope, scale and value of ESPN+ as we continue to add significantly to both live sports and original programs and series, and it is part of an established plan to ensure ESPN+ is a profitable and strong long-term business,” said a statement from an ESPN rep. The price jump of the subscription will not affect the price of the Disney Bundle, which includes ESPN+.

Canada’s Sphere Media is collaborating with with Mojumbi Entertainment on “Rock Girl,” a live-action musical series for children 8-12. The original creation comes from Matthew Gerrard and Mladen Alexander of Mojumbi Entertainment.
