A year after an admitted racial slur caused her fall from grace and the loss of numerous sponsorships, not to mention her Food Network show, Southern chef Paula Deen is on the comeback trail with her own digital network. Paula Deen Ventures plans to launch paid subscription-based Paula Deen Network in September. "Y’all can get my recipes, tips and cooking anytime you want," said Deen in a statement. Starz gave an early pick-up to Power, which debuted to 462,000 viewers Friday and delivered over 2 million viewers over the weekend. How will the soph season measure up? Sharknado 2: The Second One premieres Wednesday, July 30 at 9p.
Hallmark is thinking ahead. The net expanded its partnership with parent company Hallmark Cards for Northpole 2, set for a holiday 2015 premiere, promising "one-of-a-kind synergies" for its advertising, digital and social media partners. "By creating Hallmark Channel’s first multi-year, multi-film franchise, Northpole… is instrumental in providing a smart business model that brings great value and significant business opportunities to Hallmark Channel’s business partners," said Bill Abbott, president and CEO, Crown Media Family Networks. The first Northpole debuts Saturday, November 15.
The Paley Center for Media will screen a preview of Investigation Discovery‘s OJ: The Trial of the Century Twenty Years Later on Thursday, June 12 at its Beverly Hills location, part of an event exploring the media’s role in the circus. On hand will be journalist and broadcaster Larry King, along with legal experts. The event will be livestreamed at www.PaleyCenter.org; OJ airs on ID Thursday at 9p.

ABC won the week of June 2-8 in broadcast, with a big assist from the first two games of the NBA finals. According to Nielsen, the net averaged a 2.3 rating/8 share among A18-49, versus 1.6/5 for NBC, 1.0/4 for Univision and .9/3 for CBS and Fox. HBO‘s Game of Thrones boasted the week’s highest rating: 3.7/11.
For the first time ever, the week of June 2, HGTV was the top rated cable network among W25-54 (.77 rating) and in the top five among P25-54 (.55 rating), with over 21.8 million viewers watching the network in primetime. The season two premiere of Brother vs. Brother, along with Flip or Flop, Fixer Upper and Beachfront Bargain Hunt led the ratings charge.
The season finale of Telemundo‘s La Voz Kids delivered over 2.6 million viewers Sunday night, 1.2 million in the A18-49 demo, ranking the kids competition number one among all Spanish-language programs for the night.
Three sister nets are celebrating Tuesdays: Discovery‘s 9pm premiere of Deadliest Catch scored 2.58 among M25-54 and 1.68 among M18-49, OWN‘s 9pm premiere of The Haves and Have Nots earned 1.87 among W25-54, and TLC‘s 10pm premiere of The Little Couple earned 2.06 among W25-54 and 1.74 among W18-49.
