A six-car crash early Saturday morning left 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan critically injured and comedian James McNair (aka Jimmy Mack) dead. Morgan was returning from a tour date in Delaware when the limo bus in which he and McNair were passengers was hit by a tractor-trailer in New Jersey. Two other passengers were left in critical condition.
In the late night battle of Jimmy versus Jimmy, Kimmel beat an original telecast of Fallon for the first time on Thursday in the top 25 markets. Boosted by NBA finals and exposure in a prime time pre-game special, ABC‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live scored 3.1/9 in Households and 1.5/8 among A18-49, opposite NBC‘s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s 2.6/7 HH and 1.0/5 A18-49. CBS‘s third place Late Show with David Letterman earned 2.0/5 HH and .3/2 in the demo.
It’s official: Game of Thrones is HBO‘s most popular series. Ever. Season four episodes have averaged 18.4 million viewers, counting repeat showings, VOD and streaming, enough to beat the 18.2 million viewers racked up by the 2002 finale of The Sopranos.
Almost half of people – 48 percent – who don’t pay for cable or satellite use Netflix, up from 29 percent in 2013, according to a study of 1211 households from Leichtman Research Group. Fifteen percent of Netflix customers say they share their subs with people outside their households.
More Netflix news: Verizon sent a cease and desist order to the streaming service, which has been displaying error messages blaming poor video quality on congested internet traffic ("The Verizon network is crowded right now"). "Responsibility for its customers’ experience falls squarely on Netflix itself," wrote Verizon general counsel Randal Milch. "Netflix has the ability to directly connect to every broadband network in America should it choose to do so. Instead… [it] relies on a panoply of content-distribution and other middle-man networks to reach its customers, trying to lower its costs as much as possible." Responded a Netflix spokesperson, "We are trying to provide more transparency… and Verizon is trying to shut down that discussion."
If it ain’t broke: ABC scrapped its plans to move Celebrity Wife Swap from Tuesdays at 10p to Thursdays at 8p after the NBA finals. The reality show pulled a 1.5/5 A18-49 rating and 4.2 million viewers on its last Tuesday outing. Now, The Black Box will slide from Thursdays at 10p to 8p, with NY Med taking the 10p perch starting June 26.
The first step in understanding Hispanic Millennials is understanding how they’re different from all other Hispanic audiences before. "As a group they are 2nd and 3rd generation in the U.S.; they are multiracial, bilingual or speak only Spanish, and feel equally tied to their American-ness as their heritage," Linda Ong, president and brand strategist for TruthCo., tells Cynopsis. Game 1 of the NBA Finals gave ABC its top-rated Thursday among A18-49 since 6/20/13, up 5 percent year to year in both the demo and total viewers (14.9 million).
CMT reports the 13th annual CMT Music Awards on Wednesday delivered 3 million total viewers, the second most-watched ever. With 1.4 among P18-49 (up 7 percent versus last year), it was the top original cable telecast for the day.
Season two of CMT‘s Party Down South debuted to a series-high 1.25 million total viewers for the premiere and its encore, up 75 percent from season one among P18-49 with .67.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: It was ABC by a landslide among A18-49 viewers Thursday with 4.8/17, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. A 1.7/6 for CBS’s The Big Bang Theory/Mom combo tied Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen for first at 8p, but ABC’s coverage of the NBA finals took over at 9p with 4.8/19, followed by 1.5/5 for Univision’s Que Vida me Robo. Basketball scored 6.2/20 to win 10p, versus 1.4/4 for NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
