Showtime renewed Penny Dreadful for a season two, with an expanded episode order of ten. The horror thriller, averaging 4.8 million viewers since launch, is the net’s most-watched new show ever on-demand.
Will Arnett (Arrested Development) is back on Netflix, voicing a has-been sitcom star – and horse – in the animated adult comedy BoJack Horseman "who has been trying to find his way through a muddle of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships." Amy Sedaris plays his ex in the 12-ep series, launching Friday, August 22 at 12:01a.
AT&T is capitalizing on the impending merger of Comcast and Time Warner Cable by sending mailers to prospective U-Verse customers saying, "the two cable companies with some of the poorest overall customer satisfaction scores have announced they are merging." The company told Variety the move was "one way of informing customers they have a choice of TV providers."
Logo TV added the Brooklyn Nets’ Jason Collins and Netflix series Orange Is the New Black to the list of honorees included in a one-hour event focusing on pioneers in the fight for LGBT equality. Trailblazers premieres Thursday, June 26 at 9p.

History ordered miniseries Sons of Liberty from A+E Studios and Stephen David Entertainment. The six-parter about the men who ignited the American Revolution starts production this summer. Among the cast members: Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) as Benjamin Franklin, Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia) as Sam Adams, Michael Raymond James (True Blood) as Paul Revere and Henry Thomas (E.T.) as John Adams.
Fox Television Studios struck a first-look deal with producer Elizabeth Guber Stephen, who will develop and produce cable-based projects via her Gables Media, Inc. shingle. Initial projects include USA drama series Timeline.
ABC Family is developing Rated P for Parenthood with Kelly Ripa (LIVE with Kelly and Michael) and husband Mark Consuelos‘s (Alpha House) Milojo Productions and Jamie Denbo, reports Deadline. The family comedy is based on an off-Broadway musical that ran in 2012.
ITV Studios Group finalized a joint venture agreement with Marty Adelstein to launch Tomorrow ITV Studios. The studio’s first project is NBC‘s upcoming straight-to-series drama Aquarius. MY Tupelo Entertainment and Alfred Haber Television have entered into an international distribution and co-development partnership for The Vampire Adventures. Alfred Haber will handle the international distribution for the series, exploring mythology of the undead, while seeking co-production partners for the series.
Bravo‘s Top Chef Duels premieres Wednesday, August 6 at 10p. The new franchise spin-off brings back faves for "a gastronomic battle royale of epic proportions."
R&B Divas LA returns for season two on TV One Wednesday, July 16 at 10p. Original cast members Chante Moore, Lil’ Mo, Claudette Ortiz and Michel’le will be reunited on the Thinkfactory Media production, joined by new cast members Chrisette Michele and Leela James.
Syfy premieres season one of hit New Zealand dramedy The Almighty Johnsons on Friday, July 11 at 10p. The South Pacific Pictures production follows four "typical guys" who inherit the power of Norse Gods.

New NBC medical drama The Night Shift was just .1 off its premiere last Tuesday, according to Nielsen. ABC‘s Celebrity Wife Swap jumped three tenths, to 1.5/5, for its season finale, while the premiere of CW social experiment Famous in 12 drew a scant .2/1 in the demo.
CBS Television‘s Judge Judy was the number one syndicated show in the May sweep, with a 7.3 HH rating – up 9 percent versus May 2013 for Her Honor’s best May sweep showing in six years. Dr. Phil won the talk show race for the 8th sweep in a row, with 3.4, up 13 percent.
DIY Network achieved its highest May standard Prime average audience ever among P25-54, garnering 88,000 impressions. The network also delivered its largest monthly average audience ever for the weekend daypart, averaging 123,000 P25-54 impressions.

The first hour of NBC’s America’s Got Talent was tops at 8p with 2.6/10, followed by 1.1/4 for ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss. Talent took 9p with 3.1/10, versus 1.4/4 for Univision’s Que Vida Me Robo. NBC’s Night Shift and ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap split the victory at 10p with 1.5/5.
