FaZe Clan has the green light to go public, where they will be listed on the NASDAQ exchange following the org’s merger with SPAC was “declared effective” by the SEC. Last October, FaZe Clan announced plans for the merger with SPAC ‘B. Riley Principal 150 Merger Corp.’ BRPM also announced a Special Meeting of stockholders on July 15 at 10a where BRPM stockholders will be asked to consider and vote upon proposals to approve the Business Combination and related matters. The Business Combination is expected to close shortly after the Special Meeting, subject to BRPM stockholder approval and the satisfaction or waiver of certain closing conditions.

“FaZe is on the verge of becoming a publicly traded company,” said Lee Trink, Chief Executive Officer of FaZe Clan. “The capital from the Business Combination will help us to continue to grow our brand as a leader in esports and the creator economy, and embrace the advent of new digital goods and platforms. We look forward to closing the Business Combination and continuing to partner with the B. Riley team in our journey to the public market.”

COMPETITION

Ubisoft announced plans for its next international competition this season, hitting Berlin from Aug. 15-21. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Esports, the Six Berlin Major, will welcome a live audience for the final three days of the event during the Playoffs with the Grand Final taking place in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. 16 teams will compete for the title, prize money, and Global Standings points to qualify for the Six Invitational 2023. This marks the first time Germany will host a Six Major.

Akshon Media was named an official content production company for the 2022 season of Overwatch League and Call of Duty League. For the 2022 season of Overwatch League, the company is working with Blizzard Entertainment to produce post-game match highlights, video content for broadcast and other work behind the scenes as a content production company. “These production contracts for the global franchises were awarded to Akshon Media for our uncanny ability to create content that truly resonates with the global esports fans,” says Roger Chan, CEO of Akshon media. “Akshon’s hand-picked team understands the storytelling needed to enhance the overall fan experience and we’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Activision Blizzard.”

FIFA locked in the 23 nations who will join hosting nation Denmark in the FIFAe Nations Cup 2022. The event will run July 27-30 with $400K on the line. First time participants will include India, Singapore and United Arab Emirates, who will join traditional pillars such as Germany, England and Brazil.

The 2022 Pokémon North America International Championships hit Columbus, Ohio starting tomorrow as players from around the world compete for prizes and payouts. Matches from the Pokémon Trading Card Game as well as the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games will be streaming all weekend on each game’s Twitch.tv channel, starting Friday at 9a. Fans can also catch Pokémon GO and Pokkén Tournament DX competitions during the event’s first two days.

ESL Gaming announced the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Player Awards cycle, with the first edition taking place at IEM Katowice 2023. To kick off the cycle and to sum up a decade of best CS:GO action in honor of the 10th anniversary of Valve’s top esports title, the Esports Player of the Decade will be awarded during the IEM Rio CS:GO Major Championship. Other honors will include: Player of the Year; Breakthrough of the Year; and Team of the Year. “The most resounding way to give someone validation as the greatest CS:GO player in the world is if he or she is selected as such by all of the world’s best players. The CS:GO Player Awards are a platform for this to happen and our role in it is to facilitate the process and elevate the occasion,” said Micha? “Carmac” Blicharz, VP Product Development at ESL Gaming. “We could think of no place that fits better to decorate the CS:GO Player of the Decade than the IEM Rio CS:GO Major.”

GameSquare Esports and Tim “TimTheTatman” Betar announced details for TimTheTatman’s Tailgate, a two-day festival blending gaming, sports, music, and pop culture. Taking place at Ford Center at The Star, in Frisco, Texas, the event will include musical performances headlined by country music star Kane Brown.Ither entertainment will include TimTheTatman’s Hoedown: a $100,000 Zero Build Fortnite Tournament livestreamed on TimTheTatman’s official YouTube channel.

On June 7th, 2022, OTK (One True King) announced their new partnership with LA and Ukraine-based tournament operator, WePlay Esports.
The content creation powerhouse will be able to use the LA esports arena, outfitted with VR and AR technology, to boost their streaming quality and event capabilities. In turn, the partnership allows WePlay to gain social traction with the influencer network, expanding its reach in its first dive into the American esports network.
In their first partnered event on June 8th, WePlay hosted the OTK Games Expo in their arena, their first externally-hosted event.
Asmongold, an OTK member, hosted the Expo and streamed it live on his Twitch channel. The five-hour stream garnered 450k hours watched and peaked at 129k concurrent viewers. Viewers sent over 105k chat messages on Asmongold’s channel, with an average of 444 messages sent every minute.
Along with WePlay, the Expo was sponsored by Razer, Mountain Dew GameFuel, and Intel. The three sponsors had their logos rotating on screen throughout the stream, as well as broadcast onto the television screens and facilities at the esports arena. Over the course of the Expo, the three sponsors garnered over 7.1 billion impressions for their logos.

Mastercard unlocked a partnership with the Saudi Esports Federation with both parties inking a Memorandum of Understanding to promote esports and gaming in the country As part of the deal, the duo will collaborate on a slate of projects that includes Metaverse and Augmented Reality (AR) activations, NFTs, and fan loyalty programs, while Mastercard will launch a virtual card specifically for gaming.

Rogue cemented a partnership with Razer to become the official peripheral partner for Rogue’s LEC League of Legends team, as well as its academy squad AGO Rogue, providing the teams with headsets, keyboards, mice and mouse mats.

Childrenswear brand OshKosh B’Gosh tapped the services of Super League to enter the metaverse as the exclusive partner in the new Roblox game, “Fashion Runway.” With the move, OshKosh looks to raise brand awareness and engage gamers “with brand experiences including creating avatars to model down the custom runway, design their own clothing and access to their favorite OshKosh B’Gosh apparel via Roblox’s new layered clothing feature.”

Amazon’s Crown Channel on Twitch is revving up promotion for Prime Day on July 12-13 by serving up a battle between MrBeast and Ninja on July 9. Titled Ultimate Crown, the event will see the duo go head-to-head in League of Legends gameplay as they compete live from Las Vegas at the HyperX Arena. The show will also be simulcast on Prime Video. Twitch viewers can support their champion with custom emotes that influence the matches in real time. Prime members and live viewers in the chat will be eligible for giveaways and gifted subs during the stream to get in on the action. Prime members will also have a chance to attend the Ultimate Crown event live in person.

Engine Gaming and Media announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, UMG Events is selling assets to Harena Data. UMG will also supply various technology services to Harena Data following the closing of the transaction. Harena Data will take ownership of the UMG online business, which hosts daily tournaments and matches for competitive esports players, as well as the ownership of the studio and media properties under UMG including its social channels.

ESL Gaming and Elisa sealed a new partnership, making Elisa Esports the exclusive media rights holder of the ESL Pro Tour for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in the Finnish language. As part of the agreement, Elisa Esports has obtained the rights to distribute, promote, and broadcast content of the ESL Pro Tour via its linear and digital channels, including its Twitch channel, exclusively in Finnish.

The Rocket League Championship Series 2021-22 Spring Major next week will see its Esports Shop introduce RLCS 2021-22 Goal Explosions, with 19 options available in the Esports Shop Tab for featured teams that range from Dignitas and Evil Geniuses to Misfits Gaming and Team Vitality to FaZe Clan and G2 Esports. A slice of the revenue within the shop will go toward the teams.

Team Liquid announced the opening of a dedicated Brazilian ecommerce store to service its regional fanbase, opening on Friday and allowing fans to purchase official team merchandise, produced by local vendors, for the first time. The launch of the Brazilian store coincides with a refreshed web store design across Team Liquid’s existing global stores, including North America and Europe. Team Liquid’s latest global apparel line Liquid x Fortnite will lead the Brazilian store’s launch offerings as it’s simultaneously released in North America and Europe. “Brazil became a big part of Team Liquid’s brand in 2018,” said Mike Milanov, Chief Business Development Officer at Team Liquid. “Over the years, we have been investing heavily into infrastructure locally and are proud to finally unveil our digital storefront. Summer Game Fest proved to be another winner for founder Geoff Keighley, with the 2022 live show accruing over 27 million livestreams, up 8% over 2021, with peak viewership topping 3.5 million. In addition, the event reports that Twitter conversation was up 100% year-over-year, bolstered by over 6000 co-streamers.

PwC’s Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2022-2026 reports that global video games and esports revenue totaled $215.6 in 2021 and is now projected to grow at a 8.5% CAGR to US$323.5bn in 2026. Asia Pacific generated the lion’s share of revenues in 2021 with US$109.4bn, almost double North America, the second highest region.
