Jeff Bezos will step down as Amazon CEO on July 5, 27 years to the day after the company he founded was incorporated. Bezos announced the news at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services, will take over the role, but Bezos will remain involved at the company as executive chairman, where he said he will “focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives.”

Photo-sharing app Poparazzi debuted with a bang last week, ranking as the App Store’s number one photo/video app in the US, according to Apptopia. Poparazzi – which landed an eight-figure investment round by Benchmark three days after it launched – features photos taken by friends, versus selfies, for more casual and less manipulated content.

Paypal is adding support for third-party wallets, allowing Paypal and Venmo users to send Bitcoin to other platforms like Coinbase as well as each other. “We understand that there is more utility to those tokens if you can move them around, so we are definitely exploring how we can let people transfer crypto to and from their PayPal addresses,” said Jose Fernandez da Ponte, PayPal’s head of blockchain and crypto, speaking at Consensus.

Instagram added new Insights for Reels and Live in its Professional Dashboard, offering more detailed metrics about the reach of content. Creators will have access to data like Accounts Reached, Saves and Shares for their Reels, and Peak Concurrent Viewers.

Publicis Groupe is incorporating news veracity rating system NewsGuard to blacklist fake news sites programmatically. NewsGuard’s “inclusion” and “exclusion” lists keep clients’ ads from being placed in misinformation and hoax content. “We’ve moved beyond brand safety and suitability to help our clients champion brand integrity across everything they do – ensuring their brand values are reflected across all of their advertising efforts,” said Yale Cohen, EVP-Global Digital standards of Publicis Media Exchange.

Like it or not: Instagram, and soon sister Facebook, will give users the option of hiding public like counts on their posts. Users also will be able to choose whether or not they want to see likes on other people’s posts.

Crowdsourced sports betting platform Betsperts acquired Fantasy Life App, a platform that provides news, updates and advice for bettors and fantasy players. The new entity will be renamed Betsperts Media and Technology Group.

Fueled by a $47 million investment, video company AnyClip has created a new category with an AI-powered platform for business that addresses the video surge in a post-COVID market. The company introduced a fully automated and centralized platform for video management; distribution; contextualization and analytics; and monetization, powered by its proprietary visual intelligence.

Compact Media, the audio-visual secondary rights management company for film and TV producers, announced the formation of its Compact Data division and launched the AI rights monitoring and broadcast tracking system, MRIT (Media Rights International Transmissions). MRIT allows media companies to access data powered by A.R.I.A., enabling them to track key licensing metrics including the number of broadcasts of a licensed show, the amount of time left on a show’s licensed run, the number of shows running in the correct time slot, the number of transmissions left on each contract and if additional license fees are due thereby collecting more cash faster. MRIT also enables subscribers to track third party works and access business intelligence like what content competitors are selling. Producers can also discover where similar shows to their own slate are broadcasting and over what time periods, bolstering their development process and due diligence analysis.

Enterprise software platform and data provider Whip Media has expanded its offering with the beta launch of the Whip Media Exchange, a data and AI-powered content marketplace. Using proprietary first-party data, the Exchange provides a set of predictive analytics not previously available to the entertainment industry. “Streaming has drastically changed the media landscape and we want to enable licensing to follow the same growth trend,” said Richard Rosenblatt, CEO and Founder of Whip Media. “With the launch of the Exchange, Whip Media uniquely provides data and technology to meet the evolving needs of buyers and sellers, along with the industry-leading platform that facilitates the entire content licensing process.” Lionsgate, Giant Pictures and DMD Limited / CiND!E Films are among the first companies to join the Whip Media Exchange and provide premium content from their libraries.

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution Technology has restructured its tech teams, creating eight core groups within the DMED Technology group: Advertising Platforms, Business Operations, Consumer Experiences & Platforms, Content Operations, Content Platforms, Design, Engineering Services, and Media Engineering. DMED brings together teams that are responsible for next-generation DTC and linear distribution, advertising technology, engineering, operations, and Disney’s digital product portfolio. “This new alignment recognizes where our Company is today, where it is going tomorrow, and positions us to continue Disney’s legacy of using technology to bring amazing stories and products to consumers everywhere, drive businesses and power innovation” said EVP and CTO Aaron LaBerge.

Social cinema platform Kinema announced its launch, after a $2 million seed funding round backed by key investors including Kindred Ventures, Lupa System, Galaxy Interactive and I2BF Global Ventures. The Kinema platform is both a tech platform that enables social cinema, and a network of non-theatrical exhibitors. Hosts can organize online events via the Virtual Kinema, which includes live text chat and live video broadcasting, and also organize in person utilizing the platform’s cloud based film delivery application.

Colabox, the music fan engagement platform, is now available for all music labels and artists. Following a seven-year exclusive partnership with Universal Music Group, Crowdcat is making the AI-powered technology available to the entire music market. “At its core, Colabox is designed to bring every individual fan closer than ever to the artist or band that they love,” said Richard Summers, Chief Scientific Officer of Crowdcat. “By leveraging advancements in artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and psychometrics, we have been able to create a platform that adjusts to the needs and expectations of the fan so that the label can learn how to better interact with them.”

The Google for Games Developer Summit 2021 has been set for July 12-13. Experts across Google will share info about new game solutions they’re building to make it easier to create games, connect with players, and scale businesses. Registration is free and open to all game developers.

Apple’s virtual WWDC 2021 kicks off with a keynote on June 7 unveiling updates coming to Apple platforms later this year. The conference, free for all developers, will offer developers the opportunity to engage with one another, and directly with Apple engineers for guidance on building apps and games.

Featured speakers at the inaugural Instagram/Facebook Creator Week will include JoJo Siwa, Benito Skinner, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Saweetie, and Yung BBQ, among others. The event, taking place virtually June 8-10, is available by invitation only, with select programming available to the public.

Omnichannel advertising services company Digilant has struck a strategic partnership with Lasso, the platform for healthcare marketing and analytics, that
will combine reach and physician-level reporting with omnichannel media execution, delivering an advertising solution for healthcare and pharma marketers that spans programmatic, email, social CTV.

Lotame announced that Adform, the integrated advertising platform, has merged its programmatic workflow with the Lotame Panorama ID, while ad monetization platform Smart has extended the use of Lotame Panorama ID for its clients using both its Adserver or SSP. “Lotame has a view for the future in line with what marketers and publishers want to achieve: a people based, privacy first solution that is open to all,” said Andy Monfried, CEO at Lotame. “Collaboration will be key for the future of advertising and identity presents an opportunity, but education is needed on how all the industry solutions can work together. Our partnerships with Adform and Smart will play an important role in strengthening the collaboration needed across the ecosystem in adopting new approaches for a post-cookie world.”

Ad fraud intelligence and marketing compliance platform Pixalate has launched the Publisher Trust Index, a global approach to quality measurement and monthly rankings of the world’s mobile and CTV apps, designed to bring more transparency to the programmatic advertising ecosystem. Pixalate uses proprietary algorithms to measure a range of quality metrics, including brand safety, invalid traffic, programmatic reach, viewability and more, with rankings spanning over 35 different app categories.

Programmatic media partner MiQ announced the launch of their US Hispanic and multicultural practices, aimed at helping advertisers reach and engage US multicultural audiences through more sophisticated, diverse data sets. MiQ’s strategy is to help achieve target demographics through the creation more personalized campaigns and messaging based on comprehensive analyses of shopping habits, TV consumption, online content behaviors, language preferences, and more.

Comcast Technology Solutions, a division of Comcast Cable, and PremiumMedia360 announced a new strategic relationship. The integration with the CTS Ad Management Platform TV advertising buyers and sellers to automatically synchronize and solve reconciliation discrepancies throughout the ad buy lifecycle can help save work hours typically spent in solving data discrepancies between buyer and seller systems.

The Out of Home Advertising Association of America released its first “OAAA Digital Video Out of Home (VOOH) Buyers’ Guide,” providing insights and guidance to promote the medium’s growth. The guide covers:
• Audience segmentation, including mobile and contextual targeting
• Location-enhancing content
• Publishers
• Measurement and attribution, including VOOH impression measurement and proof-of-play
• VOOH ad formats
It also addresses key standards and pricing, as well as direct and programmatic buying recommendations. “VOOH remains untapped, and if we can adopt ‘any right screen’ mentality – be it in home, on a phone or in public places, VOOH is poised to see tremendous success,” said Doug Rozen, CEO, dentsu Media Americas.

Roku announced its first-ever pay-one window licensing deal. Roku and Saban inked an agreement through which several titles from Saban’s 2021 slate will stream on the Roku Channel in the US and Canada as early as three months after theatrical and home entertainment release. The movies—including “Echo Boomers,” which kicks off the arrangement June 15—will be available for free, with limited ad breaks. The Roku Channel reaches households with about 70 million people, according to Roku.

Redbox is adding Crackle to Redbox Free Live TV. At launch, the channel features programming including “Cold Blood,” “Grand Isle” and “Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story.”

Fox Nation will now offer Fox News Channel’s primetime opinion lineup on-demand via “Fox News Primetime All The Time.” Beginning tomorrow, June 2, subscribers will be able to access full video episodes the following morning of FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “Hannity” and “The Ingraham Angle.”

MyBundle.TV, which makes tools to connect viewers with broadband providers and streaming services, launched a suite of personalized interactive streaming guides. Called “Profiles,” the guides aim help consumers navigate the increasingly complex landscape of streamers.
