IN THE NEWS
The shakeups continue at Fox News, with co-president Bill Shine the latest casualty. In a memo to staff on Monday, executive chairman of 21st Century Fox Rupert Murdoch characterized the exit as a resignation, saying, “I know Bill was respected and liked by everyone at Fox News. We will all miss him.” Shine, who was promoted along with Jack Abernathy after Roger Ailes was forced out amid a sexual harassment scandal, had been with the network since its inception in 1996. Suzanne Scott takes on the role of president of programming; Jay Wallace has been named president of news.
Fox News
, responding to reports that Shine supporter and Hannity host Sean Hannity was on the way out, said in a statement, “This is completely untrue.” Last week, when rumors of Shine’s impending exit surfaced, Hannity warned that would mean “the end” of Fox News.
NBCUniversal
preschool net Sprout is growing up. Rebranded to Universal Kids starting September 9 and targeting kids 2-11, programming will include DreamWorks Animation Television series, unscripted shows and live action scripted originals. Anchoring the lineup will be Top Chef Junior. Sprout hasn’t been cut off entirely – the brand will continue within Universal Kids. “
We see enormous potential to grow our audience in this space and create the Universal Kids platform for families to experience together,” said NBCUni president, lifestyle networks Frances Berwick. “NBCUniversal is invested in the kids and family business, and the company believes in working together – we will benefit from promotion across our portfolio of networks and across the company.”
Kelly Ripa
announced on yesterday’s show that pal Ryan Seacrest is her new permanent co-host on newly-named Live with Kelly and Ryan. Seacrest, also an exec producer on the show, will relocate to NYC for his new duties, but continue as host and exec producer of radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest (New York’s ABC7 will house a new iHeartRadio studio to accommodate him). Seacrest will also carry on as host and EP of E!’s Live from the Read Carpet shows, and ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Ripa had been flying solo for almost a year, since Michael Strahan left Live to join Good Morning America.
In more Kelly news, Megyn Kelly’s new morning show will take Today’s 9a slot on NBC, pitting her in many markets against Live with Kelly and Ryan starting this fall. The Fox News transplant also has a Sunday night newsmagazine in the works for June, where she’ll be up against the venerable 60 Minutes team.
Fox
yanked You the Jury off the Friday schedule after 2 episodes. The reality show drew 1.5 million viewers and a .38 rating among A18-49 for its premiere, dipping to 1.2 million viewers and .27 in the demo the next week. Lethal Weapon repeats have taken the time slot for the past 2 weeks.
CBS
took home the most statuettes at the Daytime Emmy Awards, nabbing 18, and The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton made history as the first performer ever to have won in 3 acting categories (Younger, Supporting and Lead). General Hospital won for Outstanding Drama, Jeopardy took the game show category, Good Morning America led the morning program field, The Ellen DeGeneres Show picked up the trophy for Talk/Entertainment and The Dr. Oz Show topped Talk/Informative. For more, go

TNT
’s The Last Ship is taking a break from production of season 5 for a few weeks as star Eric Dane takes time off to deal with depression issues. Season 4 has already wrapped, so the delay shouldn’t affect launch.
Raycom Media
enhanced its Florida portfolio with the acquisition of ABC affiliates WWSB/Sarasota and WTXL/Tallahassee, which had been owned by Calkins Media. “These 2 operations exemplify the commitment to local news and community service that is ingrained in every Raycom Media station,” said Pat LaPlatney, Raycom Media president CEO. “We are pleased to bring their talented teams on board.”
What’s top of mind for TV execs right now? “There is nothing more important to the industry than audience measurement,” industry consultant/measurement guru Brad Adgate tells Cynopsis. “Each year, tens of billions of dollars are invested based on their results. In the upcoming year, there will be a major transformation in audience measurement, as the granularity that data provides becomes more widespread, providing many new insights that will beneficial in developing media strategies and negotiating ad buys.” To help networks, agencies and advertisers get a better handle on what’s ahead, Cynopsis is holding a measurement & data conference in NYC on August 3.

Dish Network
lost 143,000 subscribers in 1Q17, closing the quarter 13.528 million pay-TV subscribers. Year-over-year, Dish slipped 2.5%.
CNBC
’s The Profit and Comcast Business are teaming for Small Business Week (April 30-May 6), hosting a series of events in Atlanta, Chicago, Hartford, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Seattle, that will feature panel discussions with members of the local business community, networking forums, and casting opportunities for prospective candidates on The Profit.
It appears we won’t be seeing that Donald Trump-inspired episode of Law and Order: SVU anytime soon. First scheduled for October 12, then postponed several times, the show, starring Gary Cole as a wealthy boor with his eye on the White House, is not on NBC’s program listings for the rest of the season.

SOCIAL GOOD
Y&R introduced its “Whole Story Project,” born from an initiative that began a year ago to help achieve gender equality and empower women and girls. A mobile app and online platform designed with Current Studios enables users to establish virtual statues of notable women to create parity in public representation. “It is no surprise that everywhere you turn, in almost every city, most of the statues in public spaces are men, and the few women are usually drawn from fiction. Many groups, including the UN and Girls Scouts, are working hard to redress this gender imbalance but, realistically it’s going to take millions of dollars and many years before we see even a handful of women taking their place in the public landscape” said Leslie Sims, chief creative officer of Y&R North America. “The Whole Story Project offers a way to create immediate awareness and access to the amazing history women have made around the world.”
Y&R is going all in on making the world a better place – last month the company launched a division, Y&R Inspire Change, using new research and insights to help deepen their commitment to social causes. So it’s no surprise Y&R will be on the panel for the May 23 Cynopsis webinar, How to Program & Market a Winning Social Good Strategy, to help networks and brands determine the best ways to connect to viewers and consumers by doing good. You’ll find more info here.
DISTRIBUTION
ION Television inked a deal with Entertainment One for new original series The Detail, giving ION the exclusive U.S. TV rights for current and future seasons of the procedural crime drama from ICF Films, eOne and Canada’s CTV. Production on the 10-episode first season is currently underway.
