IN THE NEWS
Roku yanked Google’s YouTube TV from its channel store upon the expiration of the companies’ distribution agreement on Friday. “We have only asked Google for four simple commitments,” said Roku in a statement. “First, not to manipulate consumer search results. Second, not to require access to data not available to anyone else. Third, not to leverage their YouTube monopoly to force Roku to accept hardware requirements that would increase consumer costs. Fourth, not to act in a discriminatory and anticompetitive manner against Roku.” Existing customers will still have access to YouTube TV, but new sign-ups are blocked. Responded YouTube TV, “Despite our best efforts to come to an agreement in the best interests of our mutual users, Roku terminated our deal in bad faith amidst our negotiation.”
UK’s ITV didn’t broadcast the fifth and final season three episode of “Viewpoint” on Friday, after allegations emerged from numerous women about sexual harassment on the part of the show’s star, Noel Clarke. “In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode,” said a network spokesperson. The episode was made available for a limited time on ITV Hub. Clarke “vehemently” denied any misconduct.
Clarke’s problems didn’t end there – Sky has halted his work on season four of “Bulletproof,” as well as his involvement in any future Sky productions. “Sky stands against all forms of sexual harassment and bullying and takes any allegations of this nature extremely seriously,” said the company. The CW, which aired the first three seasons of “Bulletproof,” pulled it from the net’s streaming services, and All3Media suspended Clarke and his business partner, Jason Maza, from their production company, Unstoppable Film and Television.
NBC picked up comedies “Young Rock” and “Kenan” for second seasons. “Young Rock” ranks as the number two new comedy for the season among A18-49 and the net’s number one comedy debut across digital platforms. “Kenan” is NBC’s number four digital comedy launch to date. Both series debuted in February.
.
Season five of Netflix’s “The Last Kingdom” will be its last. Filming is underway in Hungary on the historical drama’s final, 10-episode chapter.
Musician/actor/“The Voice” coach Nick Jonas will host the “Billboard Music Awards,” airing live Sunday, May 23 at 8p on NBC.
Fox News and weekend anchor Leland Vittert “have mutually and amicably parted ways,” said the network. Vittert, who joined FNC in 2010 but hadn’t been seen on air since January, was a target of former President Trump and some of his supporters.
