HBO sealed an exclusive deal with Amazon streaming service Prime Instant Video to feature the network’s programming as of May 21. Prime Instant users will be able to check out past episodes of The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Six Feet Under, miniseries John Adams, Band of Brothers and Angels in America, but new shows like Veep and Girls won’t be available until three years after airing on HBO. The cable net’s online service HBO Go will also be offered on Amazon’s new set-top-box Fire TV. Prime Instant recently implemented a $20 price hike, from $79 a year to $99 a year.
Miramax films can now be streamed by U.S. viewers via the new Movies feature on the AOL On Network. "This partnership is our first foray into film and long-form, bringing a cinematic experience to our premium content library and across our connected TV experiences," AOL Video President Ran Harnevo said about the non-exclusive arrangement. "Having a premium launch partner in Miramax means that we bring some of the best, award-winning content to the web in a format that’s easily accessible to consumers."
IFC‘s Portlandia is getting the Gif treatment from artist Jason Polan (The New Yorker and The New York Times) and artist collective Mr. Gif. The weekly Gifs will capture the best moments from each new ep, and will be viewable on IFC.com.
On the heels of the AT+T announcing that it’s introducing an online-TV service with the Chernin Group, Dish Network is also about to debut a web TV streaming service. Bloomberg reports Dish is telling programmers like NBCUniversal, A+E, Turner Broadcasting and CBS to expect a summer release of a live-streaming Internet TV offering targeted to 18-34 year olds wanting to pay $20 or $30 a month. At previously reported, Dish has already signed on ABC as well as cable channels ESPN and the Disney Channel.
Vine darling Brittany Furlan (5.8 million followers) has joined Endemol Beyond USA to create content for YouTube and other platforms. Furlan also stars in the network’s first original digital comedy Super happy Fun Time Yay!, set to premiere this month on the beyondCOMEDY hub.
BroadbandTV will now manage more than 200 FremantleMedia shows on YouTube. TubeFilter reports BroadbandTV will seek out related videos to Fremantle shows like American Idol, The Price is Right and America’s Got Talent. FremantleMedia recently secured a distribution deal with StyleHaul and launched a food channel with Vice.
Arrested Development‘s Mitch Hurwitz has struck a multiyear deal with Netflix to create original content and produce more programming for the service. No timing or titles have been announced yet, but he most recently brought Arrested Development back for a fourth season exclusively for Netflix subscribers.

Facebook‘s Q1 revenue blew away expectations yesterday, with a 72 percent increase from the pervious year at $2.5 billion in revenue at 34 cents per share. According to Bloomberg, Wall Street expected Facebook to report 24 cents per share or $2.36 billion.
Netflix will present its first Spanish-language original series from Gaz Alazraki and the team behind Mexican hits Nosotros los Nobles (We Are the Nobles). The untitled series will consist of 13 eps about a family feud among heirs of a soccer club after the owner’s death. It will premiere on the service in 2015.
BrightRoll has new partnerships with Google‘s DoubleClick network, BlueKai, comScore and Nielsen. BrightRoll buyers will now have programmatic access to the DoubleClick video ad platforms, and BlueKai will supply the company’s clients with a new mobile audience targeting solution. ComScore and Nielsen will provide further measurement tools for digital video advertising and programmatic Brightroll buying platform.
Outrigger Media released its top brand channels on YouTube, 500 of which grew 70 percent in average monthly views in the past year. The report found the analyzed brands hit 722 million monthly views, 1.4 million average monthly views, 41 million subscribers and averaged 136,000 views per video. Other highlights include:
- The top three marketer categories were tech, auto and retail. Google accounted for 24 channels; Samsung alone controlled 17 channels.
- TED Talks (2.2 million subs) led educational channels, to have the most average subscribers per channel.
- The Food & Beverage category had the most average monthly views per channel and average views per video in 2013, with Red Bull, PepsiMax and Lipton Tea campaigns leading the way.
- A survey of media planners and buyers showed that 41 percent of buyers planned to increase YouTube spend in the next year. Also, 49 percent of buyers claimed their online video dollars were transitioning from traditional TV budgets.
- In general, the most successful YT channel content converted views to subscribers at a rate of 0.5 percent. Ie; every 200 views resulted in a subscriber. Brands were less successful, and tended to need 750 views, due in part to inconsistent content and publishing strategy.
- Based on the SlateScore, which measures data with channel’s engagement, consistency, influence, momentum and reach, the brands to watch in 2014 are: Audi of America, Target, Dell, The North Face and Cover Girl.
Richard Turley will join MTV as its first Senior Vice President, Visual Storytelling and Deputy Editorial Director. Previously, Turley was the Creative Director of Bloomberg Businessweek.
Fox Digital Studio has hired Mel Clements as Vice President of Branded Entertainment. He most recently was the Creative Experiences Director for Microsoft‘s Yarn.
Warner Bros. Animation‘s Sam Register has been promoted to President of the company and Warner Digital Series. Register will head up the newly formed live-action digital content production until.

HBO released seven new online ads that feature just how awkward it is to watch sex scenes with a parent in the room. Some of the raunchier scenes from HBO shows such as Girls and Game of Thrones appear on screen as soon as an oblivious parent walks into the room.
