CBS is tired of The Good Wife being shut out of the Emmy nominations and doing something about it: namely, addressing the broadcast versus cable disparity. According to The Hollywood Reporter, included in CBS’ Emmy mailer is a page that highlights the number of episodes each of this year’s main drama contenders produce per season, pointing out that series like Mad Men (seven episodes), True Detective (eight) and Breaking Bad (eight) lag way behind The Good Wife’s 22 hours.
It’s the ultimate bye-bye to Barbara. All 11 co-hosts of ABC‘s The View, past and present, will share the stage live on Thursday, May 15 at 11a to celebrate the show’s creator Barbara Walters. The following day, Walters makes her final co-host appearance on the daily talk show. Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, Lisa Ling, Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck will join Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy, Whoopi Goldberg and Walters for the final adieu.
AXS TV host Dan Rather is producing a new series of documentary specials focusing on the nation’s most challenging issues. Dan Rather Presents premieres Tuesday, May 6 at 8p. The first episode, One Way Ticket to Nowhere: America’s Mental Health Crisis, takes an in-depth look at how the nation is dealing with the mentally ill.
Fox News Channel is launching a one-hour weekday panel show that will address top news headlines. Outnumbered will feature four female panelists and one rotating male. The show will air at 12p beginning April 28.
Jeremy Renner will narrate HISTORY‘s three-night event series, The World Wars, premiering on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 at 9p. "The stories that came out of The World Wars are heroic, horrific and everything in between," said Renner "I’m happy to lend my voice to HISTORY and help tell these stories in a very different way."
Rentrak has announced a StationView Essentials contract with Florida advertising agency WOW Factor Marketing Group. MarVista Entertainment has optioned best-selling author Alisa Valdes‘ The Dirty Girls Social Club and The Three Kings: A Christmas Dating Story and Louisa May Alcott’s A Long Fatal Love Chase. Additionally, MarVista has partnered with Canada’s EVOS Media to develop VC Andrews’ Daughters of Darkness. The literary works are being developed as potential theatrical releases and primetime TV series.
Wilshire Studios, a division of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, is ramping up its development slate, adding two new overall deals to its roster with Stephanie Bloch Chambers and C. Russell Muth. Chambers has produced Bravo‘s Toned Up, It’s a Brad Brad World and three seasons of Bethenny Ever After. Muth made his mark in reality while working at Al Roker Entertainment producing multiple shows for Discovery Channel and TruTV-such as American Chopper, American Casino, Tiger Team and America’s Toughest Bars.
ITV Studios America has entered into an exclusive production deal with Komixx Entertainment Inc., an entertainment rights owner and content production company based in the UK. Under the deal, all Komixx’s US television development will funnel through ITV Studios America, which continues to expand its scripted slate.
As the clock ticks down to the FOX premiere of 24: Live Another Day (Monday, May 5 at 8p), a special half-hour preview of the series, 24: Live Another Day: Jack Is Back, airs Saturday, May 3 at 8:30p. The special features interviews with the 24’s director, producers and stars, and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the action, cast and production on location in London.

Remains of a pirate ship are discovered off the coast of Massachusetts, and professional treasure hunter Berry Clifford digs in and gives field host Benny Spies a peek at how the ship was found nearly 300 years later on Sportsman Channel‘s Amazing America with Sarah Palin on Thursday, April 17 at 8p. Also in the episode, field-host Mark Christopher Lawrence visits with taxidermist Dennis Harris to learn the methods of his trade.
The 22nd Annual Trumpet Awards air Sunday, April 20 at 8p on TV One. The ceremony highlights accomplishments of men and women who have significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of life in fields such as law, religion, politics, public service, sports and entertainment. Laz Alonso and Melissa De Sousa are co-hosting.
Attention hard-rock and heavy-metal fans. VH1 Classic presents the 2014 Golden Gods Awards on Saturday, May 24 at 8p. Hosting this year is the trio from That Metal Show and VH1 Classics, Eddie Trunk, Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine. Bill Hader returns to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) this summer to host TCM Essentials Jr. Hader will introduce 14 feature films that are ideal for parents to share with their kids. TCM Essentials Jr. premieres Sunday, June 1, at 8p with Bringing Up Baby, the 1938 comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant.
AXS TV is broadcasting 20+ hours of live coverage from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival from Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20, airing each night at 9p.
Spike TV has ordered a 10-episode second season of Catch A Contractor, starring Adam Carolla and produced by Eyeworks USA. The new episodes will be an hour long, up from season one’s half-hour length. The show debuts this fall.
The spy games continue FX has picked up The Americans for a 13-episode third season. Five episodes remain in the current season. The series airs Wednesdays at 10p.
TV One launches the third season of R&B Divas Atlanta via Video on Demand (VOD) on Monday, April 21, two days before its linear premiere on Wednesday, April 23 at 10p. Former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson and former 702 lead singer Kameelah Williams join original cast members Syleena Johnson, KeKe Wyatt, Angie Stone and Monifah Carter.
Geno Segers and Afton Williamson, who recurred on the second season of the Cinemax hit Banshee, have been promoted to series regulars in Season 3, reports TVLine. The show, which is currently in production, returns in early 2015.

UP‘s premiere of The Passion of the Christ on Sunday, April 13 delivered the network’s strongest telecast ever among households and key demos. The telecast averaged a 1.2 household coverage rating, with an average audience of 1.1 million viewers 2+, placing UP 8th in the time period among ad-supported cable. Said Charley Humbard, President and CEO, UP, "As we expected, the film attracted a broad cross-section of demos and gave us a great opportunity to promote our ‘Easter Lives Here’ lineup of Bible movies, the UP Original Movie Apple Mortgage Cake airing this Sunday, and other holiday-themed programming. Passion’s strong showing on April 13 made it an easy decision to re-air it tonight (April 17)."
Shifting to a special 9p airing on Tuesday, April 15, ABC‘s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. surged 18% over its week-ago Fast Affiliate Adult 18-49 rating (2.0/6 vs. 1.7/6) and up 5% over its National rating (1.9/6). The show equaled a 5-week high in Adults 18-49 since 3/11/14.
Nat Geo WILD‘s new series, Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet, grossed 789,000 viewers on Saturday, April 12. The 9p series premiere posted a 0.3 P25-54 rating, placing +79% above network prime average.
FX‘s new 10-part limited series Fargo had a strong debut on Tuesday, April 15. The show drew 4.15 million total viewers and 1.79 million Adults 18-49.
Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: CBS and NBC tied for the most A18-49 viewers Tuesday with 2.0/6, according to Nielsen. NBC’s The Voice won the 8p hour with 3.0/10, followed by CBS’ NCIS with 2.2/7. At 9p ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles tied for the top spot with 2.1/6. NBC’s About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher combined for second with 1.7/5.
