Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer announced he is retiring this summer, after 46 years with CBS News. Scheiffer, 78, became CBS’s chief White House correspondent in 1982, and anchor of Face the Nation in 1991. He also served as interim anchor of CBS Evening News in 2005-2006, after the exit of Dan Rather. Said CBS News president David Rhodes in a memo to staff, “He’s been an inspiration and mentor to so many colleagues.”
Tyra Banks will man the mic as host of the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmys, airing on Pop Sunday, April 26 at 8p. Banks is a two-time Daytime Emmy winner for The Tyra Banks Show.
Eddie Murphy will be the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on October 18. The Kennedy Center cited Murphy’s “uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly.” Last year’s honoree was Jay Leno.
CBS digital subscription service CBS All Access secured carriage agreements with 12 affiliate groups allowing live streaming service to their stations in 56 markets. Add that to the 14 CBS owned-and-operated stations, and the service now reaches 55 percent of U.S. households…and counting. “This is another key step in the Company’s long-standing strategy to grow our business in a way that complements our existing ecosystem,” said Les Moonves, president and CEO. “We look forward to adding more affiliate partners to build CBS All Access nationwide.”
USA’s Complications will open this year’s ATX Television Festival in Austin, with creator and exec producer Matt Nix at the premiere, along with cast members Jessica Szohr and Beth Riesgraf. Original drama launches on USA Thursday, June 18. Also on the ATX agenda: a “cancelled too soon” screening of ABC Family’s Bunheads, and a Dawson’s Creek pilot reading presented by Kevin Williamson. Festival opens June 4.

Endemol Shine North America entered into a strategic partnership with Ryan Seacrest Productions for its unscripted division. The terms of the deal were not disclosed; transaction is expected to close in December.

Starz limited series Flesh and Bone, about a young dancer with a troubled past, premieres Sunday, November 8. Dark drama from Breaking Bad writers and exec producer Moira Walley-Beckett stars Sarah Hay (Black Swan) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards).
Dick Cavett’s Vietnam, part of a special block of programming marking the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, airs on Monday, April 27 at 10p on PBS (check local listings). Documentary features segments from The Dick Cavett Show interspersed with archival footage and recent interviews.
On hand for the crowning of Univision’s latest beauty queen on Sunday’s season nine finale of Nuestra Belleza Latina will be Prince Royce, Ricky Martin, Espinoza Paz, Paulina Rubio and J Alvarez. The net promises the evening will “start with a bang.”
Who needs Match.com? TLC’s new Psychic Matchmaker uses the intuition of psychic Deborah Graham to connect soulmates, starting Friday, May 1 at 10:30p.
Velocity and Discovery Channel will broadcast 19 hours of live coverage of the 13th Annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction, starting Friday, April 17 from noon-8p on Velocity, continuing on Discovery at 2p on Saturday, April 18. The broadcast of the Florida event is part of an agreement to air 100 hours of live coverage of Barrett-Jackson the nets in 2015.
Charli XCX is slated to perform with Ty Dolla $ign and Tinashe at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday, April 12 at 8p. Fashion Police departee Kelly Osbourne hosts the pre-show with Jessie J and Josh Horowitz.
The series finale of Nat Geo’s Alaska State Troopers airs Wednesday, April 15 at 9p. The eighth and final season was dedicated to Troopers Tage Toll and Gabe Rich, and Sgt. Scott Johnson and Trooper Pilot Mel Nading. Toll and Nading were killed in action in March 2013 during a Helo-1 search and rescue mission to save an injured snowmachiner. Rich and Johnson were killed in the line of duty while responding to a call in a remote Alaskan village on May 1 of last year.
Home & Family hosts a reunion for the cast of Clean House on Monday, April 13. Niecy Nash, Mark Brunetz, Trish Suhr and Home & Family’s own Matt Iseman will participate in the get-together. “We have greatly enjoyed providing our viewers with cast reunions,” exec producer Marty Tenney tells Cynopsis. “Having the cast of Clean House reunite with our own family member Matt Iseman makes this reunion extra special for us.”Lifestyle/talk show airs weekdays at 10a.

NOVA marks the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope with Invisible Universe Revealed on Wednesday, April 22 at 9p on PBS.
HBO anthology series True Detective returns in its new, sophomore year iteration, led by Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly, on Sunday, June 21 (happy Father’s Day!) at 9p. Season two focuses on a bizarre murder case that brings together three law enforcement officers and a career criminal. New comedies Ballers and The Brink ride the premiere wave, at 10p and 10:30p.
Pivot’s Fortitude, which ended its first season Thursday night, has been renewed for a sophomore run. Series was the net’s first foray into scripted drama.
DirecTV may be giving up Rob Lowe (and his lesser alter egos), but it’s sticking with the funny in new ads featuring Sports Illustrated’s 2015 Swimsuit Issue cover girl Hannah Davis…and a (spoiler alert) talking horse. Good timing, since on Tuesday, the National Board of Advertising ruled that DirecTV should discontinue certain claims made in the Lowe spots – though the company, which vowed to appeal the finding, said it had always planned on replacing the Lowe ads at the end of 1Q15, and reserves the right to bring back the successful campaign.

CBS Television Distribution announced that TV’s top game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, were renewed through the 2017-2018 season, two years beyond stations’ current contracts in 80 percent of the country including the ABC Owned Television Station Group, Sinclair, Media General, Gray Television, Hearst, Graham Media, Tribune, Cox, Meredith, Dispatch Broadcasting, NBC and Scripps.
AMC Global acquired exclusive first window international television rights to upcoming AMC original series Into the Badlands, to air on AMC Global within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere. Series from AMC Studios has been ordered for six, one-hour episodes with an expected debut in fall 2015.
Banijay Group’s Brainpool will produce a new version of Popstars for RTL II in Germany, set to air later this year. RTL II had previously aired Popstars from Autumn 2000, where it ran for two seasons.
Three months into its rebrand from TV Guide, Pop held a cozy gathering of press and Pop employees at NYC’s Gansevoort Park Avenue to announce a programming and development slate bursting with 300 hours of original programming. The sked includes eleven new and returning original specials, as well as new projects in development with top industry producers, including Gail Berman and Nigel Lythgoe, Morgan Spurlock’s Warrior Poets, Left/Right Productions and Lionsgate.
Newcomers include reality show Queens of Drama (Donna Mills! Joan Collins!), premiering Sunday, April 26 at 10p after the Daytime Emmy Awards, then moving to Wednesdays at 8p; docu-series Sing It On, inspired by the movie Pitch Perfect, bowing Wednesday, May 13 at 10p before shifting to a 9p timeslot; and Don’t Blink, a series focused on the world of underground magicians, appearing in summer 2015.
Development highlights include a deal with Grammy winner John Legend, pop culture game show Doubt and Celebrity Inc., pairing celebs with an aspiring inventor to create their dream product.

In a battle of reality shows, CBS’s Survivor bested both NBC’s The Voice and Fox’s American Idol in viewers and among A18-49 on Wednesday, squeaking past The Voice with 9.84 million viewers versus 9.64 million for NBC (Idol drew 6.58 million). In the demo, Survivor hit 2.5/9, versus 2.2/8 for The Voice and 1.4/5 for Idol.
In the neck-and-neck competition for daytime viewers, CBS’s The Talk eked out a victory over ABC’s The View in both viewers and W18-49 for the second time in four weeks in the week ending April 3. Stats: 2.55 million viewers versus 2.49 million, and .7/5 versus .6/5 in the demo.
The premiere of Mann & Wife was the most-watched original in Bounce TV history. Across its two premiere night timeslots, the sitcom reached nearly 800,000 viewers and 540,000 HHs, and ranked third among all ad-supported cable television in total African-American viewers in its time period.
