ESPN+, the new direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service, will launch on April 12, offering fans content for a subscription price of $4.99 per month as part of a completely redesigned and reimagined ESPN App that will be the premier all-in-one digital sports platform for fans. Content will include more than 180 MLB games, more than 180 NHL games, a slate of Top Rank Boxing, more than 250 MLS games, and thousands of live college sports events, including football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, gymnastics, swimming & diving, lacrosse, wrestling, volleyball, golf and more from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big South, Big West, Horizon, Ivy League, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, Missouri Valley, NEC, Southern Conference, Southland, Summit League, Sun Belt, WAC and many more. In addition, programming will feature coverage of 31 PGA TOUR events, matches from three Grand Slam tennis events as well as rugby and cricket contests.
 
 
ON THE AIR

Despite a thriller on Sunday, Notre Dame’s win over Mississippi State to capture the Women’s NCAA Tournament National Championship slipped from 2017 numbers, hitting a 2.0 in Nielsen overnight ratings on ESPN, off-pace by 17%, but holding even with 2016 numbers. The semifinals were also down, as Friday’s upset that saw Notre Dame beat UConn drew 2.3 million viewers on ESPN2, off 17% from last year, while Mississippi State’s win over Louisville drew 1.51 million viewers, up 1% from last year.
 
FOX Sports is reportedly in talks with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to broadcast its upcoming slate of Thursday Night Football broadcasts in 2018, according to The New York Post. This news comes after Peyton Manning turned down an offer from FOX to be the lead color commentator.
 
Stadium announced the premier of Baseball Stories, a weekly series featuring conversations between veteran baseball writer Jayson Stark, and a lineup of baseball’s biggest names. The first episode will air on April 10 at 7p via Stadium’s broadcast and digital offerings. Names set to appear include the likes of Mark McGwire, Terry Francona, Buck Showalter and Justin Verlander. Stadium’s signature studio show ‘The Rally,’ will shift to 6-7p on Tuesday nights.

MLB and USA Baseball are also set to launch a groundbreaking new event specifically designed for the on-field development and scouting of female baseball players. NBC Sports Group officially launched the NASCAR America Fantasy League, available on NASCAR’s Fantasy Live platform. The 10-week league will allow fans to set their fantasy lineups and play against NASCAR on NBC’s broadcasters beginning this weekend as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway. Fantasy league results will also be featured weekly on NASCAR America.
 
The NBA announced that Kia’s fan voting program on NBA.com/KiaFanVote and Twitter has expanded to include all the end of season Kia NBA Performance Awards – Kia NBA Most Improved Player, Kia NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and Kia NBA Rookie of the Year. Voting closes on April 13, and fans can vote once per day.
 
 
ESPORTS

Christina Alejandre, GM of ELEAGUE & VP of Esports at Turner Sports, is departing the organization in a mutual decision between herself and the company. Alejandre tweeted that “I loved my time with ELEAGUE and want to thank my amazing colleagues, our fans and the esports community. I’m proud of what we accomplished over these last few years and am looking forward to my next adventure.” A replacement has not been named, although company sources say that they remain strongly committed to ELEAGUE and esports.
 
Ahead of the NBA 2K League inaugural draft, Kings Guard Gaming announced that three-time cover player, broadcaster and Sacramento Kings minority owner Shaquille O’Neal has been named General Manager of the team where he will “provide valuable basketball counsel as the team assembles its roster and evaluates the 102 players available in the upcoming draft.” “I’m looking forward to my role with Kings Guard,” said O’Neal. “Just like I dominated the hardwood, music industry, showbiz, nicknames and broadcasting, I plan to help build the most dominant 2K franchise in history.”
 
Overwatch League is changing it up for Stage 3, which begins this week, announcing that the top four teams from each stage will now qualify for Stage Playoffs, while the Stage Finals will now be played in three matches within a bracket format on the Sunday following the last games of the stage on Saturday. The top seed will now be able to choose its opponent in the first round from the other three teams participating in the bracket.
