04/19/19: Sportradar & Sportsgrid launch betting channel; Nets scout NFL Draft plans; March is a lion for FOX

Good morning. It’s Friday April 19, 2019 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
Sportradar is partnering up with SportsGrid to launch the a free, 24-hour network dedicated to the sports betting audience. The partnership, according to the release, blends Sportradar’s ad tech, OTT technology and data with SportsGrid’s original programming with the partnership incorporating Sportradar’s release ofad:s, a service that provides bookmakers with a lineup of marketing solution aimed at “eliminating waste and streamlining their marketing spend.”
“Sportradar is always looking to enhance the fan experience through the use of data and technology,” said Jason Sukhraj, SVP US Advertising and OTT, Sportradar. “Collaborating with the SportsGrid executive team provides us with the platform to mesh our core competencies around betting with their programming talent and address the increasing demand for information and content geared around sports gaming. ”

Meanwhile, networks unveiled more plans for next week’s NFL Draft, which begins on April 25. The Walt Disney Company’s presentation of the event will feature over a thousand production elements, with over 600 player highlights, and 57 cameras covering the action. ESPN’s traditional draft telecast, presented for the fourth year by Courtyard, features host Trey Wingo, NFL Draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay (Rounds 2-7), NFL analysts Louis Riddick and Booger McFarland (Round 1), NFL Insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter and NFL host Suzy Kolber. Meanwhile, ABC’s differentiated coverage for Rounds 1-3 will focus on the journey of NFL Draft prospects, and feature Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts (Round 1) and host Rece Davis, analysts Kirk HerbstreitLee Corso, Desmond Howard and David Pollack, reporters Tom Rinaldi and Maria Taylor and contributor Chris ‘The Bear’ FallicaESPN Radio will cover every round of the NFL Draft for the first time. Host Dari Nowkhah will be joined by reporter Ian Fitzsimmons, former NFL star and current ESPN Radio New York host Chris Canty (Rounds 1-3), former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets front office executive Mike Tannenbaum and NFL Draft analyst Jim Nagy (Rounds 4-7). Coverage begins April 25 at 7 p.m. ET.
NFL Media’s approach delivers more than 76 live hours of Draft Week coverage beginning April 21, with an extensive talent roster of analysts, reporters and hosts as well as a record 23 draft war room cameras. NFL Network’s coverage of the 2019 NFL Draft begins with first round coverage provided by host Rich Eisen, draft expert Daniel Jeremiah, Kurt Warner and David Shaw, along with analysts Charles Davis and Steve Smith Sr., host Chris Rose and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Additionally, Deion Sanders interviews the draftees on-stage following their selection. Prior to the start of the first round on Thursday, NFL Draft Red Carpet airs at 6:00 PM ET, with NFL Network’s Melissa Starkand Michael Irvin providing interviews as the prospects arrive. Rounds 2 and 3 will see NFL Network’s Peter Schrager and Melissa Stark, and FOX college football analyst Joel Klattjoining Eisen, Jeremiah, Davis, Rose and Rapoport.
Speaking of football, following the collapse of the AAF, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck reportedly said that the XFL has deals with “two very powerful media companies” and the XFL will have two games a week on over-the-air network television and two games on major cable channels, per an NBC Sports report. “We believe we’re well on our way to a successful launch in February of 2020. We’ve got a great business plan,” Luck said.
CBC Sports and MEDIAPRO Canada unlocked a partnership that will see live coverage of 20 games throughout the 2019 season of the new Canadian Premier League on CBC Sports platforms. CBC will be the exclusive television broadcast home for 10 Canadian Premier League games, with an additional 10 games available via free live streaming coverage. CBC Sports’ Scott Russell and Andi Petrillo will host CBC’s coverage of the broadcast games while commentary will be provided by Terry Dunfield. The first game kicks off at 1p on April 27.

Telemundo Deportes’ Spanish-language sports and entertainment studio show Titulares y Más will expand to a one-hour special edition throughout the FIFA Women’s World Cup France and Copa América Brazil, beginning June 7, the company announced. Running Monday-Friday at 11:35p and Saturdays and Sundays at 11p,  the show will offer daily recaps and previews of both tournaments.

Tennis Channel will provide complete live coverage of the U.S. Fed Cup team’s playoff competition against Switzerland in San Antonio starting Saturday at 3:30p. Prior to the United States-Switzerland play-off matchup, Tennis Channeland subscription-service Tennis Channel Pluswilloffer live coverage of this year’s Fed Cup semifinals. ESPN’s coverage of the Women’s National Collegiate Gymnastics Championship will air live starting today at 1p for the fourth consecutive year on ESPN2. The Team Final with the top two teams from each semifinal is slated for Saturday, April 20 at 7p. Bart Connerand Kathy Johnson Clarkewill team up to call the action on ESPN2 and ESPNU throughout the weekend, with veteran reporter Holly Rowehandling reporting duties. In RSN news, Magic Johnson is reportedly joining Ice Cube’s bid to acquire the 21 FOX Sports regional sports networks from Walt Disney Co. Disney agreed to sell the sports networks to get clearance for its $71-billion takeover of 21st Century Fox.
NBC Sports Philadelphia lined up a special NBA Playoff edition betting-centric telecast for Game 4 of the Philadelphia 76ers-Brooklyn Nets first-round playoff series.
