DirecTV has dropped right-wing cable network One America News Network, along with lifestyle channel AWE, at the expiration of their distribution deal. In January DirecTV announced plans to yank OAN, which has been criticized for promoting false 2020 election reports and misinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic. OAN/AWE owner Herring Networks filed a lawsuit last month alleging the removal of OAN from DirecTV could be devastating financially.
FX’s “Snowfall” has been renewed for a sixth and final season. “FX first partnered with legendary writer/director John Singleton and the rest of the creative team six years ago to pursue their vision for an ambitious, powerful drama about the explosion of the crack epidemic of the early 80s,” said Nick Grad, President, Original Programming. “Today, as the fifth season of ‘Snowfall’ reaches new heights of acclaim and viewership, there is no question that this series has become an FX classic drama.”

TECH TALK
LG Ads Solutions has struck an agreement with Omnicom Media Group to bring LG smart TV and cross-screen ad inventory to Omnicom clients. LG Ads Solutions data will be integrated within Omni, Omnicom’s operating system. The integration will enable account teams across OMG to activate advanced targeting segments from Omni across more than 20+ million LG smart TV households in the US. The deal links LG Ads Solutions’ anonymized household-level data through a privacy-compliant process to Omni’s household graph.
Discovery, Inc. has selected EDO, the data, measurement and analytics company, as its preferred behavioral measurement partner. Discovery will utilize EDO’s Ad EnGage offering to measure consumer interest and intent with proprietary data measurement tools that focus on search activity following a TV advertisement. The data will be leveraged during the 2022/23 Upfront season. “Offering clients reliable and predictive behavioral measurement data is the linchpin of Discovery’s advanced advertising solutions, and this partnership with EDO allows us to build upon that and emphasize our influence on consumer habits,” said Jon Steinlauf, Chief US Ad Sales Officer, Discovery.
Artificial intelligence-enabled media will represent the majority of all ad buys in 2022, projects GroupM, with $370 billion in spend. “AI infiltration of the advertising industry has happened largely behind the scenes, with the general public aware primarily of its failures: the ‘creepy’ retargeting ad that follows someone around the internet, the disastrous outcomes of weaponizing targeted advertising systems to sow division and misinformation,” said GroupM Global Director of Business Intelligence Kate Scott-Dawkins in the report. “These examples are unfortunately more common than we would like to think — and probably largely unattributed by consumers to the use of AI.”
Xandr announced the launch of Inventory Library on its Invest DSP, offering a deal discovery and activation workflow with visual navigation and searchability. When using Inventory Library on Invest DSP, buyers have access to curated deals from hundreds of publishers across multiple sell-side platforms, organized in catalogs. “The premium video ecosystem is fragmented, with most CTV inventory transacted through deals and many platforms developing proprietary deal marketplaces. As such, it is hard for buyers to discover and access relevant inventory in one place to enable their campaigns to scale. This is especially true for CTV and premium video supply,” said Eric Hoffert, SVP, Video Technology, Xandr. “Inventory Library is deal buying the way it should be, as it offers a highly intuitive and visual design with greater visibility into deal inventory than ever before, taking ease of use to an entirely new level.”
Elon Musk has joined Twitter’s board of directors after acquiring 9% of the company last month. “Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our board,” tweeted Twitter Parag Agrawal, who acknowledged Musk is “both a passionate believer and intense critic” of the service. Responded the billionaire, “Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months!”. Musk’s ownership stake as a member of the board is capped at 14.9%.
Integral Ad Science announced ??new reporting enhancements that provide advertisers with a unified view of their global campaigns. Clients will be able to analyze data by custom filters created automatically from their unique campaign naming convention. This Unified View will allow clients to slice and dice their data by dimensions such as regions, lines of business, campaign types, and more. Additionally, IAS augmented its Report Builder to include IAS’s time-in-view insights as well as several new open web video metrics so advertisers can evaluate their performance beyond core verification.
Geopath has integrated place-based media into its Impression Variation Dashboard, a component of the Geopath Insights Suite. The addition of this inventory will enable buyers and sellers to analyze how the forecast for their placed-based media is performing compared to observed data. Geopath’s audited place-based OOH inventory currently includes airports, retail stores, shopping malls, health clubs, offices, bars, restaurants and more.
STREAMING
The CW Network has launched a new CW App, combining new original programming from The CW and library series from CW Seed. “The CW was one of the first broadcast networks to fully embrace streaming as a way to serve our core young audience, and the new CW App is the natural next step in our growth and evolution, as we are now the only network with a single unified brand across all of our,” said Rick Haskins, President, Streaming & Chief Branding Officer, The CW. The app is available for free on major platforms.
Inspired by a “Saturday Night Live” sketch, Netflix has created a “Short-Ass Movies” category. On an “SNL” segment on Saturday, Pete Davidson, Chris Redd, Simon Rex and rapper Gunna bemoaned the length of movies today, saying they wanted to see films at most an hour and 40 minutes long. “Good idea,” tweeted Netflix on Monday, with a link to the new Short-Ass Movies category.
