“We’re creating a new definition of what a media company is,” said Candle Media founder Kevin Mayer during a MIPTV keynote. “We don’t have our own streamer so are independent and that facet of our strategy is so important. Demand will grow extremely robustly and if you’re independent in this way there’s not a huge amount of us out there so I like our chances.” Mayer and Candle founder Tom Staggs are “piecing together companies and thinking about where there are synergies,” said Mayer, who added a new product is in the works with Hello Sunshine and Moonbug Entertainment, both owned by Candle Media.

The partnership will kick off with a Media Immersion Day on April 20 to introduce participants to the business through professional development workshops and networking opportunities. “As someone who wasn’t even aware of career opportunities in the agency world until I came across the single agency that recruited on campus, I know how important it is to be in the places where the talent we want to attract is,” said Hermon Ghermay, Global Chief Culture Officer at Mediabrands.

Altice USA has launched a new customer campaign, Let’s Reconnect. In addition to TV spots, Altice sent an open letter to its customers, saying, “We’re making changes to ensure that we are delivering the very best service and experience to our customers and keeping them at the center of everything that we do. This means more speed and reliability through our fiber network and mobile service, 24/7 customer support online and over the phone, the opening of more retail stores across the country, and so much more.” The company is also rebranding Suddenlink to Optimum later this year, to deliver services under one unified brand.

The Tesla founder is now Twitter’s largest shareholder, with 9.2% share of the company. As Twitter stock surged 27% on Monday morning, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives suggested on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that Musk – who recently criticized Twitter for possibly “failing to adhere to free speech principles” – could try to “take a more aggressive stance” on Twitter, including some sort of buyout. GOING GLOBAL

The UK government is moving forward with a plan to privatize Channel 4, a move proposed last year by UK culture secretary John Whittingdale. “It is disappointing that today’s announcement has been made without formally recognising the significant public interest concerns which have been raised,” said a Channel 4 spokesperson. “Channel 4 has engaged in good faith with the government throughout the consultation process, demonstrating how it can continue to commission much-loved programmes from the independent sector across the UK that represent and celebrate every aspect of British life as well as increase its contribution to society; while maintaining ownership by the public.”

Paramount+ announced a new slate of scripted and unscripted UK original series ahead of the launch of the streaming service in the UK this summer. Despite top talent and an in-person ceremony, Sunday’s Grammy Awards delivered 8.93 million viewers on CBS and Paramount+, according to fast affiliates. That beats last year’s record low 8.8 million but is still a nosedive from the 18.7 million who tuned in in 2020.
