Daily talker RuPaul, hosted by RuPaul Charles (RuPaul’s Drag Race), will start its three-week run on select Fox-owned stations on June 10. “Part of the appeal of doing limited series is the freedom it allows to try something really different,” said Frank Cicha, EVP, Programming for Fox Television Stations. “That’s this show.” Charles’ first talk show, The RuPaul Show, ran for two seasons on VH1 starting in 1996.
BET Networks announced second season pick-ups for comedy Boomerang and period drama American Soul. Boomerang, exec produced by Lena Waithe and Halle Berry, is the number one new cable scripted comedy for African Americans in the A18-49 demo and among AA2+, while American Soul, based on Soul Train, is tops in those categories for new cable drama.
CNN will host the second Democratic presidential candidate debate on July 30-31 from Detroit. The news follows the announcement that NBC News, MSNBC and Telemundo will take the first stab at Bernie, Booker, Beto and crew in Miami on June 26-27.
CBS This Morning co-host Bianna Golodryga is leaving the show after six months, reports HuffPost. CBS News President Susan Zirinsky felt the show had “too many anchors,” but hoped to keep Golodryga at the network, reported HuffPost; instead, according to a source, she’s exercising her option to leave.
Janine Turner (Northern Exposure) has joined the cast of Lifetime movie Patsy and Loretta Forever, playing Patsy Cline’s mother.

Bravo Media is taking a fresh look at Blind Date, with a series order for a reboot from Universal Television Alternative Studio that will be updated with social media trends and diverse couples. Blind Date debuted in 1999 and ran for 10 seasons in syndication.
USA Network picked up a second season of unscripted series Miz & Mrs, following WWE superstars The Miz and Maryse. The 20-episode season is expected to air in 2020.
Also set for a sophomore run is The Umbrella Academy. Netflix ordered ten new episodes of the superhero series based on the Dark Horse Comics; production begins this summer in Toronto.
Fremantle signed executive producer/showrunner Josh Silberman to an overall deal calling for him to develop unscripted series for broadcast, cable and streaming services, and serve as executive producer on future projects. Silberman is currently in production on the second season of Double Dare.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa inked a new deal with Warner Bros. Television, reports Deadline. He’ll develop, write and produce new series while continuing as EP/showrunner for Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, as well as pilot Katy Keene.
CuriosityStream announced the start of production on The Woodstock Bus, a doc produced by Arcadia Content that follows the search for and restoration of the psychedelic VW bus called “Light” that became a symbol of the Woodstock era. The film premieres on CuriosityStream this summer ahead of Woodstock’s 50th anniversary.

With 18 years on the network, the renowned attorney has hosted the longest-running reality court show in Spanish-language television – over 3,500 programs and more than 7,000 cases resolved since its launch in 2001.
MTV’s The Hills: New Beginnings debuts Monday, June 24. Brandon Thomas Lee (son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee) and Mischa Barton (The O.C.) will join original cast members Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Frankie Delgado, Heidi Pratt, Jason Wahler, Justin “Bobby” Brescia, Spencer Pratt, Stephanie Pratt and Whitney Port. Showtime landed rights to the documentary Quiet Storm: The Ron Artest Story, based on the turbulent life of the NBA player. Directed by Johnny Sweet (Vick), written by journalist Tom Friend, and produced by Bleacher Report, the film premieres Friday, May 31 t 10p.
Lip Sync to the Rescue, an interactive countdown special produced by Juma Entertainment, wlll air on CBS later this year. Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, the special was inspired by viral video #LipSyncChallenge, started as a way for police, sheriff and fire departments to engate with their communities.

The Advertising Research Foundation has adopted a code of conduct governing ethical research and related data collection by member companies. The code addresses industry conduct in relation to research participants, internal and external clients, the profession and the public. The ARF will look to enforce the code through a cooperative industry system titled the “Chain of Trust,” with members agreeing to use suppliers, agencies and other ad tech third parties who have made commitments to the values expressed in the code of conduct, whenever possible. “For an ecosystem such as ours built upon research, data and analytics, the need to ensure that all are conducting themselves in an ethical and responsible manner, based upon agreed guidelines of behavior, is not only morally correct, it is good business,” said Scott McDonald, CEO and President of the ARF. Mobile news publisher NowThis chose yesterday, Equal Pay Day, to announce a new, exclusive media partnership with TIME’S UP. In its largest content partnership to date, NowThis will produce news videos across its social platforms spotlighting key policy initiatives affecting women in the workplace, as well as the challenges and successes of working women across industries.
The just-announced Crackle Plus joint venture from Sony Pictures Television and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has a glitch, and his name is Muhammad Abdullah. The crackleplus.com domain name was purchased by Abdullah in 2017, and Abdullah told Variety that while Sony tried to negotiate the purchase of crackleplus.com through DomainAgents, he ended the deal because he wouldn’t sell for “a lower price.”

More than one in five people use voice commands to interact with their TVs or streaming devices, according to a survey from IHS Markit, and 30% more are interested in the technology. But age matters – while 33% of 25- to 34-year-olds use voice assistants for TV viewing, the number dips to 4% for viewers 55+.

Vizrt, provider of visual storytelling tools for media content creators, has acquired NewTek, provider of IP-based, software-driven live video production solutions, to create the largest company in the broadcast space dedicated to enabling IT based video production. “Combining our organizations allow us to pursue our joint vision of software-based video production, leveraging the power and flexibility of computing and IT-based systems,” said Michael Hallén, Vizrt CEO. “The combined business will be very well positioned to deliver turnkey systems that give creative power to any organization that has ambitions of producing content for any output platform.”
Global media technology leader MediaKind announced the launch of its Cygnus 360º as-a-Service solution for live events. Findings from the Videa study, “How TV Is Winning Back its Leadership Position: Dynamic Careers in a Digital Age,” include: Adaptability Is Critical – 90% of participants somewhat or strongly agree that marketing and advertising professionals who do not make it a priority to stay up to date on industry developments are destined for failure; The TV Buying Process Is Changing Rapidly – 52% of respondents strongly agree that TV buying is transforming, and virtually everyone (94%) at least somewhat agrees; and Dollars Are Moving from Digital to TV – 53% percent of participants say they have seen dollars moving from digital to TV with the continued deployment of easier, more automated buying.

Live-action kids’ adventure series The Unlisted, developed and commissioned by the ABC in Australia and recently co-commissioned by Netflix, will premiere in Australia on the ABC later this year, with Netflix to release globally soon after. Sinking Ship Entertainment brokered the Netflix deal.

March Madness impacted syndicated shows during the week ending March 24 – programs cleared on CBS stations suffered heavy game preemptions while many daytime strips were penalized by Mueller Report coverage on March 22. Steve (1.3 Live+SD national Nielsen, up +8% from the week before) and Wendy Williams (1.5, up +7%) were the only two of the 14 talk shows able to show gains. Leading talk shows for the 133rd straight frame was Dr Phil (2.5, down -11%), which aired repeats on several days and was bumped in many markets. Not far behind was Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.2, down -4%); Ellen DeGeneres (1.9, unchanged) held on to third.
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah recorded historic growth among M18-34 for 1Q19, averaging a .39 rating, up +13% from the previous quarter. The growth represents the largest jump in the history of Comedy Central late nighter under Noah. The show finished the quarter in a tie for the #1 ranking across all of TV among M18-34 in the late night talk show category. For the quarter, the series averaged a .53 rating among P18-49, a +4% increase from the previous quarter.
truTV comedy Tacoma FD debuted as the most-watched new cable comedy series premiere of the season among A18-34, delivering 312,000 viewers in the demo in Live +3 viewing, according to Nielsen. The series also ranks as the #3 most-watched new cable comedy series premiere of the season among A18-49 and in total viewers with 598,000 and 850,000 viewers, respectively.
The premiere episode of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows on March 27 grabbed 1.4 million Total Viewers and 656,000 A8-49 on a Live+3 basis, placing it #6 in both demographics among the 44 primetime cable comedy premieres since 2017. The series ranks in the Top 5 among all key men demos (#4 in M18-49 and M25-54, and #5 in M18-34).
HGTV attracted more than 5.1 million total viewers on March 25. At 9p, Home Town delivered a .83 Live+3 rating among viewers P25-54; the season, which ends on April 8, is pacing +13% higher than the series’ previous run. One of a Kind delivered a .68 Live+3 rating among viewers P25-54 in the 10-10:30p time slot, up +24% in the demo over year-ago levels in the time period. The episode also ranked as a top 10 cable program among W25-54 during the timeslot.
