Showtime gave a series commitment and opened a writers room for new spy thriller Intelligence, a real-world scripted drama series from Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty). Boal will write, direct and exec produce, marking the filmmaker’s first foray into television. The series, based on real stories from around the world, will explore how espionage intersects with politics, finance, media and Silicon Valley. The first season will dramatize the behind-the-scenes history leading up to the 2016 US, election, with each subsequent season looking at a major world event through the lens of covert operations. Project is a co-production with Showtime and Media Res studio.
TV/film writer and author David Matthews inked a two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, for which he’ll develop new series projects under his production company Turned Out Inc. Matthews also will serve as exec producer and showrunner on Sony TV’s horror event series Them.
Scot Cru has departed GRB Studios, home to long-running A&E reality series Intervention, only six months after he was promoted to president. Cru joined GRB last July after he worked for 15 years at United Artist Media.

PBS is bringing a science-led journey through human history to audiences with new series Breakthrough: The Ideas That Changed the World, debuting Wednesday, April 17 at 10p. Six-part series documents how humans – including Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Robert Goddard and Hedy Lamarr – and six revolutionary inventions changed the world forever.
Telemundo released an exclusive First Act of the return of La Reina del Sur for season 2 on Monday, April 22 at 10p. For the first time ever, the network will offer audiences the opportunity to view the opening act across both Telemundo and NBCU digital platforms, including Telemundo.com, its Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube platforms, as well as the Telemundo App. In addition, social media platforms from sister networks and shows including E!, USA’s Queen of the South and Bravo’s Shahs of Sunset, Mexican Dynasties and Imposters also will showcase the material.

Netflix dropped trailers for a few upcoming series. Dark comedy Dead To Me, from writer Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls), Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gloria Sanchez Productions, and CBS TV Studios, will premiere Friday, May 3. Series centers on Jen (Christina Applegate) a widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder, and Judy (Linda Cardellini), a free spirit who’s suffered a tragic loss of her own… The third season of Spanish-language drama Money Heist is set to premiere July 19, with the trailer hinting at island-based heist action and declaring the “vacation is now over.”
Secrets of the Dead: Egypt’s Darkest Hour premieres Wednesday, April 3 at 10p on PBS. Documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with experts as they venture through Africa in search of clues to solve the mystery of a mass grave, examining the political and environmental catastrophes that plunged Egypt and its people into anarchy.

Ad-supported video on demand service Tubi added the first seasons of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Trista & Ryan’s Wedding and 2018’s Bachelor in Paradise season 5. The Tubi library contains more than 12,000 movies and television shows.
YouTube dance drama series Step Up: High Water hit a high note for its season 2 premiere, with the first ep of the sophomore season drawing 11.5 million views in the seven days since its March 20 debut, according to YT. That’s an 884 percent surge compared with the first ep of season 1, which drew 1.3 million viewers through seven days.
Redbox used an April Fools prank to promote its transactional streaming offering, Redbox On Demand. Service enables customers to pay as they go for each movie or title they stream. Yesterday Redbox advertised a spoof service called Redbox Drops, which in theory uses drones to deliver entire kiosks to customers’ front doors.
Premium video marketplace Stringr today (April 2) will debut its livestreaming function, enabling customers to request live video content nationwide from Stringr’s 75,000-plus videographers. As a pilot customer for livestreaming, The Weather Channel is using the function to increase its live severe storm coverage.
Japanese videogame company Konami is expanding into other avenues of entertainment in the US, with a focus on its most iconic and classic video game titles. Its division 4K Media is renamed Konami Cross Media NY, with Yuta Kose on board to run the new entity that will now focus on production and licensing opportunities for the company’s Frogger, Contra, Bomberman and Yu-Gi-Oh! properties.
9 Story Distribution International will distribute eight children’s series from Scholastic Entertainment under a new deal that includes animated and live-action content, bringing 9 Story’s total distribution library to more than 4,000 half-hours. Titles are: Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Magic School Bus, Goosebumps, The Baby-Sitters Club, Astroblast, Maya and Miguel, Word Girl and Clifford’s Puppy Days.
Sylvia De Fanti (Medici, The Best Offer) is in as a series regular opposite Alba Baptista in upcoming Netflix drama series Warrior Nun.
Discovery and BBC Studios entered a series of agreements, reigniting their relationship with a 10-year multimillion-dollar global content partnership spanning a library of premium factual series to power a new global streaming service, and a bespoke development deal for BBC Studios’ genres of natural history, animals, adventure, science, travel, space, history and civilization docs.  Additionally, the two companies have concluded the future of UKTV’s channels business in the UK with a structured split that complements the strategic focus and commercial business of both organizations. The partnership is effective in all territories outside the UK, Ireland and Greater China, and make Discovery the exclusive global home of BBC landmark programs including the Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Life and Dynasties titles as well as future BBC-commissioned series from BBC Studios.

game show True Love or True Lies? has been re-commissioned for a second season, again to be produced by Lime Pictures and air across MTV’s global channels and digital platforms, spanning nearly 180 countries, later this year.
Global content creation and distribution company ADD Content inked a scripted format deal with Channel One in Russia for its Israeli drama Sirens (Betulot), slated to air later this year. Produced by AMEDIA Production and SREDA Production Co., the Russian version of the mystery thriller will feature a script by Maria Saprykina, Alexander Topuria and Irina Zui Sirens.
A+E Networks inked new deals for its Project Blue Book and season 2 of drama Knightfall. Broadcasters onboard for the sophomore run of Project Blue Book include Sci Fi Channel Europe (UK), Corus (Canada), SBS (Australia), TVNZ (New Zealand), U-Next (Japan), HISTORY (Korea, Latin America, Japan and Southeast Asia), HISTORY TV18 (India), OTE (Greece), Manoto (Farsi speaking diaspora), Mesimvria (Cyprus), and Showmax (Africa).
