YouTube celeb Grace Helbig (two million subscribers) will make her E! debut on April 3 and every following Friday at 10:30p ET, in a half-hour hybrid comedy/talker. The Grace Helbig Show will feature her perspective on pop culture as well as interviews with celebrity guests. Helbig created the YT series It’s Grace, the web series DailyGrace, the podcast Not Too Deep With Grace Helbig, and starred in the film CampTakota and the Conde Nast series HeyUSA.
 
Defy Media announced the re-launch of the Smosh Game Alliance on Smosh Games, an extension of its comedy brand Smosh on YouTube (33 million combined subscribers). The fan community will engage the Smosh Games’ six million subs through a combination of member perks, a re-designed YT channel and three new shows: Smosh University (available every other Tuesday), SGA Spotlight (also airs every other Tuesday) and SGA Live! (every Friday).
 
Marriott International premiered Two Bellmen, a short film directed by Daniel “Malakai” Cabrera in collaboration with Substance Over Hype (SOH). The flick follows top talent from the hip-hop and B-boy dance world and stars Hollywood stuntmen William Spencer and Caine Sinclair. The short is available on its YouTube channel, on screens in its hotel rooms, on Marriott.com, and to its Marriott Reward members.

Old Navy wants to tap into the millennial women consumer market with a new campaign on Tumblr and Yahoo. The retailer will share content through Sponsored Posts on Tumblr as well as in native ads across Yahoo properties. Additionally, Old Navy will be the first to use Yahoo Splash Ads, which displays several images with which consumers can engage. Campaign runs through the end of April.
 
More than half of Chief Marketing Officers use digital video to supplement TV as a complete strategy, but only 31 percent include both mediums within ad budgets. According to a survey conducted by Simulmedia and the CMO Club, 52 percent of CMO’s have different expectations of TV and digital video. “Digital depth cannot match TV’s breadth and nor should it,” Simulmedia CMO David Cooperstein said. “TV has not historically been as measurable or personalized, so it cannot perform the magic that digital delivers. In that very unique way, TV and digital do not compete, they complement.” Additionally, the study found that digital spend has increased from ten percent to 24 percent of advertising budgets in the last three years; it is forecasted to rise to 36 percent in the next three years.
 
Matrix Solutions announced that Nexstar Broadcasting Group installed their Media CRM & Sales Intelligence platform. Nexstar will use Matrix’s cloud-based system to merge and manage data from station acquisitions, create year-over-year analysis reports and employ a dashboard to highlight insights from platforms, markets and accounts.
 
Vubiquity partnered with The Deutsche Telekom Business Development and Innovation unit (BDI) on a solution for multiscreen video services. Vubiquity will provide the content-related services for the Deutsche Telekom VideoRise solution, a platform that combines the components needed to manage and deliver an OTT service.

EXEC MOVES

Media and tech company Interlude named Brian Harris Frank to the newly created position of President of Interlude Music. Frank joins Interlude from Warner Bros. Records, where he was Executive Vice President, Marketing & Strategy. Additionally, he previously served as Global Head of Content & Executive Vice President for Beats Music, where he co-created and developed the streaming music service alongside Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Beats Music was acquired by Apple last May.

The Digital Place Based Advertising Association (DPAA) voted iNTEL’s Jose Avalos to the DPAA Board of Directors. Avalos is the Worldwide Director of Visual Retail, Retail Solutions Division, Internet of Things Group at Intel.

Code and Theory appointed Chris Hayes as Partner and Global Chief Marketing Officer. He was previously Chief Marketing Officer at Critical Mass and Huge.

Former Senior Vice President of Consumer and Branded Marketing at The Weather Company, Matthew Eby, recently left the company to lead his own digital marketing agency called Anthro Digital. The firm will focus solely on climate change.
