There’s more upbeat news from the Academy of Country Music. Two-hour special AMC Presents: Our Country will air Sunday, April 5 at 8p on CBS. The special, a response to the canceled concerts and annual ACM Awards due to the coronavirus, will feature “intimate conversations and at-home acoustic performances with top country artists, along with clips of their favorite moments from the Academy of Country Music Awards’ 55-year history.”
Days after production of the third season of The Resident was halt ed, the Fox team behind the medical drama donated personal protective equipment to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital in the city where the series is filmed.
Conan returns to TBS with all new episodes beginning Monday, March 30, albeit with episodes shot remotely on an iPhone, without an audience and with guest interviews filmed via video chat. The show has been on hiatus since March 16. However, O’Brien has been filming short videos throughout the week.
The Dr. Oz Show has officially shut down production at ABC’s New York City studios, after a staffer tested positive for the coronavirus. Oz had been one of a few syndicated daytime shows continuing to film in a studio, albeit with a skeleton crew and without an audience. The show plans to continue airing daily with Oz shooting from his home.
A top European Union official called on Netflix and other streaming-video services to reduce video quality – forgoing HD, for now, in favor of standard-definition format – so internet networks don’t get overloaded during the coronavirus. EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, said he spoke to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings about the matter, asking the company to switch to SD “when HD is not necessary.” While a Netflix rep confirmed to CNN that Hastings spoke with the EU commissioner, the company did not say whether it would switch to SD streaming video by default.
TV Time, the TV and movie tracking tool, released a survey on Thursday around viewing habits while people are social distancing themselves. Key findings include:
· Among those planning to stay home/isolate or considering it (91%), the vast majority (84%) are intending to increase their TV consumption during this period.
· Motivating viewing choices, 86% said they wanted to watch shows already on their watch list. Other popular motivations were to give people an escape from reality (73%) and to make them laugh (72%), with comforting them at about half (53%).
· Only 19% said they plan to watch news, indicating viewers are largely turning to TV for entertainment.
A Massachusetts mother of two children is suing Google, alleging they tracked her children’s YouTube viewing habits for ad purposes. The class-action complaint, filed last week in federal court in Boston by Paula Ridenti, claims Google “engaged in unfair acts… by collecting personal information, such as persistent identifiers, from viewers it knew were children under the age of thirteen, without providing notice to or obtaining verifiable consent from the children’s parents.”
The 24th annual Webby Awards, which were set to take place on May 11 in New York, have been canceled. The ceremony honors the best content on the internet.

Amazon is moving forward with a limited series based on the New York Magazine story, The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence, according to Variety. Reed Morano is attached to direct the project, which tells the true story of a group of students at Sarah Lawrence College who fell under the sway of Larry Ray, an ex-con and their classmate’s father, beginning in 2010. Instagram is going up against YouTube by selling ads on its longer-form video hub, IGTV. Last Friday, Instagram started asking its top video creators to partner on a test of ad inserts, with plans to begin testing this in the spring, according to Bloomberg. Participants will receive 55% of all ad revenue generated in IGTV.
Hulu is finally coming to Comcast Cable customers’ set-top boxes. However, the cable company’s distribution pact with Disney only allows access to the video-on-demand portion of the service and not Hulu + Live TV package. As of Thursday, Hulu’s VOD became available on Xfinity Flex, Comcast’s video offering for broadband-only customers that provides access to over 100 streaming services, including Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. By the end of March, Comcast expects to have rolled out Hulu to X1 video subscribers, too.

The impact of COVID-19 has seen business hours broadband consumption rise by more than 41% with overall usage in March on track to outpace the previous monthly record in the country, according to Open Vault, a l provider of technology solutions and industry analytics for broadband operators. One week after the CDC declaration of the virus as a pandemic, subscribers’ average usage during 9a to 5p rose to 6.3 GH, 41.4% higher than the January figure of 4.4 GB. During the same period, peak hours (6p to 11p) usage was up 17.2% from 5.0 GB per subscriber in January to 5.87 GB in March. Overall daily usage grew from 12.19 GB to 15.46 GB, an increase of 26.8%.

Among the titles are Christmas as Dollywood, a romance feature starring Dolly Parton, and action feature, The Last Cop.
CBC offers over 300 hours of ad-free programming for kids and tweens free on CBC Gem, as well as made access to Curio.ca free across Canada. The CBC Kids TV block was extended each weekday from 7a to 12p.
