Meta announced it is shutting down data insights tool CrowdTangle, which has been used to track conspiracy theories and viral content on Facebook and Instagram. In its place will be Meta Content Library, available to academic and nonprofit researchers, but not to for-profit news outlets. “Our data-sharing products are evolving alongside technology and regulatory changes,” said Meta in a statement. “Phasing out CrowdTangle will allow us to focus resources on our new research tools, Meta Content Library & Content Library API.”

Stream Hatchet, a subsidiary of GameSquare Holdings, has launched an AI-powered news platform and a significant website upgrade that delivers daily articles on relevant live streaming, gaming, esports, and social media topics. The new site, streamhatchet.com, analyzes billions of data points daily from Stream Hatchet’s proprietary business intelligence software to recommend the most important news.

Many Texans have apparently found a workaround for Pornhub’s blocking access to users in the state, after a court upheld a law requiring age verification each time a user tries to access it. According to Google Trends data, searches by Texans for “VPN,” which can hide the location of a user, rose more than fourfold right after the ban.

Apple has acquired Canada-based startup DarwinAI, which specializes in vision-based tech to help with manufacturing efficiency, reports Bloomberg. AI researcher Alexander Wong, who helped build DarwinAI’s business, has joined Apple as a director in its AI group, according to Bloomberg.

More than half of Black (56%), Latinx (55%), and Asian (60%) consumers who are not currently 5G wireless home internet subscribers say that they are likely or very likely to consider 5G home internet from a mobile provider when it becomes available in their area, according to Horowitz Research study, “State of Media, Entertainment, and Tech: Disruptions.” Compared to the ISP they had before, the study finds that nearly 6 in 10 (59%) Black and more than half (55%) of Latinx and Asian 5G wireless home internet subscribers say that their 5G service does a better job; roughly a third of each segment feels that 5G service is about the same as broadband when it comes to quality. Asian and Latinx subscribers are slightly more likely than Black subscribers to feel that traditional broadband is better than 5G. “Our data show that there is an appetite for more competition in the home internet space, and the wireless providers are being very aggressive with marketing to appeal to multicultural audiences,” said Adriana Waterston, EVP and Insights and Strategy Lead for Horowitz Research. “Retention efforts that focus on delivering value for the money will be key, given that 5G wireless is being promoted as highest-quality internet for a much more affordable price.”

In a filing last week, Reddit Inc. said it is seeking to raise as much as $748 million in its initial public offering. The company and its investors are planning to sell 22 million shares for $31-$34 each. About 15.3 million those shares will be sold by the company, and the rest by investors and Reddit employees.

Working with LiveRamp, NBCUniversal is implementing Google Display & Video 360 Publisher Advertiser Identity Reconciliation (PAIR), a solution that enables NBCU to securely and privately reconcile their first-party data with marketers’ data, and personalize the customer journey more effectively. NBCUniversal will be one of the first major CTV providers live on PAIR later this quarter. “Helping our advertisers mitigate signal loss in their approaches is critical, but what makes this a transformative proposition is with Google and LiveRamp, we’re able to help marketers drive better results today,” said Ryan McConville, EVP, Ad Platforms & Operations, NBCUniversal. “There’s no need to compromise between privacy and performance.”

ByteDance (TikTok)’s ad revenue grew 79% YoY in between Feb 2023 and January 2024, ranking second behind Meta Platforms in share of ad spend, according to Guideline. Additional data points include:
· Meta (Facebook + Instagram) and Reddit revenue expanded by double digits
· X (formerly Twitter) revenue declined by 64%
· TikTok’s share of investment expanded a 7% pts, from 10% to 17%

Mediaocean has reached an agreement to integrate Magnite’s ClearLine offering into its own Prisma Platform, a move it says will give ad buyers using Prisma turnkey access to connected TV and online video streaming campaigns. The partnership builds on the 2023 deal to bring Magnite’s streaming inventory into Mediaocean’s ad infrastructure for local TV buyers. “By integrating Magnite’s ClearLine solution into Prisma, we’re creating the most streamlined and automated process to buy streaming inventory directly from sellers,” said Ramsey McGrory, Chief Development Officer at Mediaocean.

Adtech company National CineMedia launched new offerings around programmatic and self-serve automation for the 2024-25 upfront. Media buyers can access real-time, data-driven trading of cinema ad inventory, bid on available audiences during NCM’s show, “Noovie” and choose from programmatic guaranteed (PG) and private marketplace options across NCM’s platform.

Teads announced an expanded global partnership with LG Ad Solutions on exclusive CTV native advertising inventory in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and across 10 Asia Pacific countries. These new territories extend Teads’ current exclusive footprint on LG Smart TVs in France and Belgium.

Qonsent and kids and family entertainment-focused Driver Studios have partnered to develop new approaches to building trust with advertisers and consumers. Qonsent’s user consent solution will be integrated across Driver Studios’ advertising platform, which reaches 245 million US adults and families across mobile apps, CTVs and digital platforms.

Basis Technologies is integrating Reddit campaign reporting into its media automation platform, allowing for access to real-time ad delivery data. The integration enables agencies and marketers to measure Reddit ad campaigns from its platform, without extra steps to log into third-party systems, locate campaign data, download spreadsheet reports with dozens of line items, and clean up reports to align them with the preferred arrangement of data. Integrations already include Google Ads (Search, P-Max), Microsoft (Bing, LinkedIn), Meta (Facebook, Instagram), TikTok and Snapchat.

MEASUREMENT

Proximic by Comscore and Epsilon announced a partnership that will have Epsilon utilize Proximic by Comscore’s AI-powered contextual classifications for Epsilon Digital, the company’s adtech platform for performance-based, personalized digital media at scale. Proximic by Comscore will deliver Epsilon insights into content across thousands of touchpoints with a focus on brand suitability, inventory quality, IAB and GARM categorizations. “As the industry moves towards an alternative signal-based future, rich contextual data is more vital than ever before as marketers seek to maximize the value of inventory available to them in biddable environments,” said Kathryn Roganti, SVP, Commercial at Proximic by Comscore. “Our partnership with Epsilon will enhance ad quality line of sight for supply available via Epsilon’s expansive adtech stack, unlocking new efficiencies and increasing performance for clients activating with Epsilon Digital.”

DoubleVerify and NBCUniversal have expanded their partnership to provide program-level measurement solutions across OTT devices. “With the rise of streaming, it’s imperative that publishers provide brands with the data they need to be sure they’re running their media in environments that are both brand-safe and brand-suitable,” said Dominick Vangeli, SVP and General Manager, Advanced Advertising and Partnerships, NBCUniversal “With this new partnership with DoubleVerify, we’ll be able to offer our advertising partners a new level of transparency against these metrics and more, with granularity down to the program level.”

Attributy announced an exclusive partnership with OOH ad platform AdQuick, enabling advertisers to measure how OOH and other channels impact each other for return on ad spend and conversions. “Omnichannel advertisers haven’t been able to measure their out-of-home campaign data availability,” said Andreas Eisermann, Founder and President, Attributy. “Advertisers can now leverage our shared next-gen insights for unparalleled clarity on how out-of-home performance impacts, and is impacted by, holistic marketing performance.”

Adjust announced a first-of-its-kind integration with Google Play Games on PC, empowering gaming app developers, marketers and studios to seamlessly distribute and measure their marketing campaigns across a diverse range of platforms. Adjust is enhancing PC | console measurement with the addition of Google’s Play Install Referrer API to directly attribute installs to PC campaigns. The integration helps app developers understand which channels deliver the most users to their apps from the Google Play store.

STREAMING

Fifty-six percent of viewers stream one to three hours of programming in one sitting, while 40% are streaming three or more hours at a time, according to Tubi report, “The Stream 2024: Streaming Insights for Marketers.” Consumers estimate using about four different streaming services (3.8 average), with heavy streamers (15+ hours/week) using about five (4.7 average). To keep them streaming, viewers want a large selection of shows and movies (69%), new or original content (61%), and different genres or categories (50%). Additional insights include:
· Gen Z and millennials want original, diverse content from independent creators, with 74% preferring originals to remakes.
· Nearly all (96%) of Americans are interested in nostalgia watching, streaming shows that are 10+ years old; 67% of Gen Z and millennials turn to content that’s 10+ years old because “the style and quality is good.”
· 68% of Gen Z like watching live sports or sports programming, such as NFL weekly game previews (45%) or the NBA G League (31%), and 42% dedicate three or more hours each week to live sports streaming, eclipsing those watching on traditional cable and satellite TV (24%).
