Good morning. It’s Friday, February 28, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

Turner Sports announced plans for this year’s NCAA March Madness Live, in conjunction with the NCAA, offering multi-screen access to every game of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Overall, more than 150 hours of live basketball will be available, and this year will see a redesign that includes a new bracket layout, a redesigned GameCenter experience, new Bracket Challenge game and enhanced social features. In addition, the platform will be available to consumers for the first time on the Windows Store, as well as the App Store and Google Play.

ON THE AIR

FOX Sports laid out its slate of MLB games for the year, which will see the addition of FOX Sports 1 to the lineup. This season will see FOX Sports launch a new eight-year, multiplatform media rights agreement this season adding the cable channel to the mix. Overall there will be double the regular season exposures, mostly on Saturdays, from 26 to 52 games combined on FOX and FOX Sports 1, with 20 Saturday doubleheaders, 10 exclusively on FOX Sports 1 while 10 will be divided between the two platforms. FOX Sports 1 makes its MLB debut on Saturday, April 5 with a doubleheader pitting the Twins/Indians at 1p, followed by the Giants/Dodgers at 4p. The broadcast channel will make its season debut on May 24 at 7p, marking the first of eight consecutive primetime windows leading up to the 85th MLB All-Star Game.

FOX Sports added Colleen Dominguez to its team, where she will serve as a reporter and feature contributor for series that include FOX Sports 1’s FOX Sports Live. Dominguez joins after spending the last decade at ESPN where she appeared on SportsCenter, Outside the Lines and Outside the Lines Nightly, and covered breaking news and major sporting events. 

Meanwhile, Tennis Channel and Mary Carillo agreed to a three-year broadcast extension that expands her role with the network and keeps her on air through 2016. In addition to her current French Open, Wimbledon and US Open assignments, she will cover March’s Sony Open Tennis tournament in Miami as well as other competitions throughout the year from Los Angeles as part of Tennis Channel’s in-studio team. Carillo originally joined Tennis Channel in 2011.

The NFL announced that the Giants and Bills will kick off the 2014 (pre)season via the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 8p. The game will be carried on NBC a day after the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2014 – Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy, Claude Humphrey, Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Michael Strahan, and Aeneas Williams – is formally enshrined.

ESPN announced that Jon Gruden’s QB Camp series will return for a fifth season this spring. Nine of the top quarterback prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft are scheduled to participate in Gruden’s QB Camp, including 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, two-time BCS National Champion A.J. McCarron of Alabama, and Louisville standout Teddy Bridgewater. This year, QB Camp moves to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort outside Orlando where a new studio replicates Gruden’s Tampa office. In addition, the 220-acre sports facility’s athletic fields will be used for quarterback workouts. Most QB Camp specials will air on Tuesdays, beginning in late April at 9 p.m. on ESPN.

Today’s episode of syndicated daytime talk show Katie will see Bob Costas offer tales from Sochi with an Olympic round up and a discussion about the eye infection that made national headlines. In addition, Olympians Meryl Davis and Charlie White discuss their gold medal performance and how becoming partners at a very young age affected them.

BTN offers fans a look at the NCAA men’s basketball selection methods with the 60-minute special, Inside the Selection Process, airing Monday at 7p that will feature an entire 68-team mock bracket toward the end of the show. Dave Revsine hosts and will be joined by Greg Shaheen, former NCAA executive vice president of Championships and Alliances, Mike DeCourcy, columnist for Sporting News, and CBSSports.com’s bracketology expert, Jerry Palm.

MLB Network begins its 30 Clubs in 30 Days Spring Training Series tonight at 8p, beginning with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Throughout the series, MLB Network analysts Ron Darling, Al Leiter, Joe Magrane, Dan Plesac, Harold Reynolds and Mitch Williams will report news from each camp throughout Arizona and Florida, along with analysis and predictions on the coming season, and conduct interviews with players and managers from each club. MLB Tonight will feature a new edition of 30 Clubs in 30 Days every day through March 29.

ESPN Deportes Nueva York 1050 AM today announced an agreement with the New York Mets and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment to continue broadcasting Mets games in Spanish through the 2016 season. The deal will see 1050 AM broadcast 150 regular season games, as well as select Spring Training and postseason games along with pre/post-game shows for each game.

SiriusXM unveiled its broadcast schedule for its annual MLB Spring Training Tour, which will begin March 1 with a look at all 30 Major League Baseball clubs as they prepare for the 2014 season. SiriusXM’s exclusive 24-hour baseball talk channel, MLB Network Radio, and its all-sports talk channel, Mad Dog Sports Radio. First team with be the Twins from Fort Myers, FL.

The NBA announced plans for the league’s eighth annual Latin nights program, dubbed Noches ene-be-a, offering seven commemorative games and celebrating the support of NBA fans and players across Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities. Carmelo Anthony tips off the festivities on March 3 by appearing on a TV spot entitled Carmelo’s ene-be-a rhythm which will air on all NBA platforms. The initiative will see new uniforms with an updated logo as well as unique patterns on the back of the jerseys and merchandise.

The Clorox Company locked in an agreement with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of Major League Soccer, to become an official partner of the U.S. Soccer Federation and the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol. The deal will see Clorox support the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams via sales and marketing efforts highlighting the company’s Clorox, Kingsford, Hidden Valley and Glad brands. It will also support the Mexican Men’s Team in the United States through similar efforts involving the Clorox, Kingsford and Glad brands.

The NHL and NHLPA both reached terms with The Upper Deck Company on multi-year agreements to become the exclusive licensed manufacturer of NHL Trading Cards, beginning with the 2014-15 season. Upper Deck had been the exclusive trading card partner from 2004 through 2009-10, and is currently one of two licensed manufacturers through the 2013-14 season. The first product to be released under the new agreement will be MVP, arriving in August with a 300-card base set.

WWE and Totino’s are extending their integrated partnership around Totino’s Pizza Rolls, which will give fans a chance to win a trip to one of WWE’s pay-per-view events, a meet and greet with a WWE Superstar and WWE merchandise. The newest promotion features WWE Superstar Sheamus on more than 15 million Totino’s Pizza Rolls and Totino’s Party Pizza packages across the country.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, rolled out a video campaign called "What’s Your Problem? Sport Doesn’t Care" designed to honor the commitment and achievements of athletes competing in the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. The campaign encourages people to view Paralympic Games athletes simply as athletes, and supports their pursuit of dreams and was created by 72andSunny Amsterdam.

DIGITAL & TECHNOLOGY

ESPN launched over a dozen college conference channels on WatchESPN, designed to aggregate conference-related programming from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3 and ESPNEWS. Overall, a total of 15 branded destinations can now be streamed delivering live men’s and women’s college basketball events from across ESPN networks in time for Championship Week as well as replays of college football games. Conference channels at launch include: ACC, America East, Atlantic Sun, Big South, Big West, HBCUs (Mid-Eastern Athletic, Southwestern Athletic and Central Intercollegiate Athletic) Horizon, Mid-American, Metro Atlantic Athletic, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Southern, Sun Belt and Southland.
 
MLB.TV is offer streaming of every game of the World Series for the first time this year, offering subscribers the ability to live stream the October event as well as the All-Star Game and games in the FOX Saturday national broadcast window beginning in 2014.
