Thermal Pipes: Both Samsung and LG will use Thermal Pipes in their new smartphones as a means of dissipating potentially dangerous heat. The sealed copper tubes contain a liquid that turns into steam and dissipates. The goal is to avoid another Galaxy Note 7 debacle, wherein some of the devices exploded.
In response to the growing demand for cross-screen TV viewing measurement, Nielsen says the Media Rating Council has granted accreditation to the company’s Digital in TV Ratings solution. Launched in 2015, Digital in TV Ratings allows programmers to count viewers across devices as long as the program content and commercials match the linear TV airing.
Twitter has unveiled three new changes in an ongoing effort to make the platform “a safer place.” It will try to identify people who have been permanently suspended from creating new accounts; enhance “safe search,” which removes Tweets that contain potentially sensitive content and Tweets from blocked and muted accounts from search results; and identify and collapse “potentially abusive and low-quality replies” so as to enhance the most relevant conversations.
Not to be left behind in the live video streaming arms race, YouTube has jumped into the game by opening up live mobile streaming. The in-app move places it in even more direct competition with the likes of Facebook and Periscope. It also creates another revenue stream for both YouTube and its legion of video creators.
For many years, U.S. media consultancy MediaLink has had a big presence at such industry events as the Cannes Lions. Now the parent company of Cannes, Ascential, has agreed to acquire MediaLink and become part of the company’s Information Services Division. Michael Kassan, who founded MediaLink in 2003, will continue in his role as Chairman and CEO.

Nielsen announced the launch of Benchmark Media Optimizer, which the company says allows brands of all sizes to make informed, data-driven decisions without the requirement of a custom marketing mix study. It uses performance benchmarks of similar brands to simulate and optimize marketing allocation decisions and media strategies.
The ListenFirst Television Interest (TVI) Rating (TM) is a standardized measurement of the most buzzed-about TV programs on linear TV and streaming services. A complement to ListenFirst’s other syndicated data products (such as the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating – TV), the metrics included in the rating capture organic actions that are largely unaffected by paid media. Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Tumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).

The metric includes total volume of official hashtag mentions on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Tumblr, along with Wikipedia page views (as a proxy for organic search volume) for a show as a percentage of the total volume of the same activities for all shows.
