Mike Colter (Luke Cage) will star opposite Katja Herbers in CBS drama pilot Evil. Fremantle has teamed with The Jim Henson Company and author/TV writer-producer Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Good Omens) to develop a reimagined version of The Storyteller for television. HBO is developing Loner, a drama based on the Teddy Wayne novel, according to Deadline. Wayne is attached to write the pilot and co-executive produce. Loner centers on David Federman, an academically gifted yet forgettable member of his NJ high school class, who meets the smart, witty and sophisticated Veronica Morgan Wells at Harvard and becomes determined to win her over.
Jee Young Han (Station 19) is set to headline Like Magic, NBC’s workplace comedy from Superstore writers Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu, Forever co-creator Matt Hubbard, Julie Anne Robinson’s CannyLads Productions and Universal TV. It follows Holly (Han), an optimistic and awkward young woman pursuing her dreams in the world of the Magic Palace.
Netflix issued a 10-episode order to Medical Police. Series stars Childrens Hospital alums Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel and is from Childrens Hospital EPs Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain and co-executive producer Krister Johnson, as well as Warner Horizon Scripted TV.

Roshon Fegan (Shake It Up, Greenleaf) is cast in the lead role.
The Banana Splits are returning to TV, but in a new genre. A new movie is reimagining the furry kids’ show faves in a meta horror thriller that will air later this year on Syfy. According to TDG Research, Hulu with Live TV has jumped into the upper echelons of streaming TV services, catching up with DirecTV Now, which ended the final quarter of 2018 with 1.59 million subscribers. AT&T said a net loss of 267,000 subs was due to DirecTV clearing out some 500,000 subscribers who were still on promotional pricing. While Hulu, which is owned by AT&T, Comcast, Disney and Fox, didn’t publicly reveal how many of its subscribers opt to add on live TV service, it did say it added 8 million subscribers in 2018, bringing its total to over 25 million subscribers. Meanwhile, Dish’s Sling TV still has the highest number of subscribers among vMVPDs, ending 2018 with 2.42 million subscribers after adding 47,000 during the fourth quarter.
With second party data offering publishers a new revenue stream, data solutions company Lotame is launching the Syndicate online marketplace. Lotame Syndicate has been available for a few years, but the new visual marketplace aims to give buyers more transparency to research and vet some of the sellers of second-party data. Among the global sellers that have opted-in to showcase their data are 180byTwo, AD3+ (Neuron), Advance Local, Connected Interactive, DataXpand, Gulf News, Hexagon, Lonely Planet, MMPWW, Phunware, VerticalScope, Vibrant Media, Viglinks, and Zoopla.
TECH TALK
SoundCloud announced a new tool, SoundCloud Premier distribution, that enables artists to distribute their music to other streaming services, including SoundCloud competitors Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify and Instagram. Creators using the SoundCloud Premiere distribution feature keep 100% of their rights, 100% of their distribution royalties from third-party services, and pay no distribution fees.
Calling tech bloggers: If you’d like to share your insight and expertise on the Cynopsis website, contact [email protected] to be considered for submission.
MEASUREMENT
Nielsen’s Media Pulse found women (18+) spend 6% more time using apps and the web on tablets. Adult women also spend more time using handheld platforms for app/web usage than their male counterparts, and they are more likely to utilize mobile devices for social networking than users overall. As for multicultural consumers Black, Hispanic and Asian American adults each spend more time per day using apps/the web on their smartphones than the general U.S. population. African American in particular are heavier users of smartphones and spend nearly half an hour more per day using them than the total U.S. and more than any other group.
The media world has more data than ever – and more companies boasting solutions for programmers and advertisers to increase revenue, reach niche consumer groups, map the consumer journey and harness omni-channel efficiencies. Cynopsis is excited to launch our 3rd annual Measurement & Data Conference on Tuesday, June 11 in New York City. We’ll help your team cut through the clutter and chart a clear path to success – from now into 2020. View full program here.
