Nielsen announced the launch of its Diverse Media Equity program, aimed at elevating the visibility of diverse-owned media companies with advertisers and agencies. The initiative includes measurement of diverse-owned media historically excluded from investment, funding certification fees of diverse-owned media, as well as the launch of a report on diverse-owned media reach and audience profiles. “Advertisers and the media industry recognize the need to be more inclusive and want to ensure they reach an audience that is increasingly diverse,” said David Kenny, CEO, Nielsen. “We are leading the charge to develop a consistent framework and metrics to help demonstrate the value of diverse-owned media.” In collaboration with P&G, Nielsen is seeding a $130,000 reimbursement program with the National Minority Supplier Development Council to help cover the certification fees for qualified diverse-owned media suppliers.

Village Roadshow has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros., alleging breach of contract for the studio’s release of “The Matrix Resurrections” simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. “WB’s strategy not only ensured that ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ would be a bust at the box office, but it also inflicted serious harm to the entire ‘Matrix’ franchise,” reads the complaint, which accuses WB of “consistent coordinated efforts” to “eviscerate the significant value” of Village Roadshow’s IP.

Jimmy Fallon’s “That’s My Jam” has made it to season two on NBC. The variety show has delivered an average 8.3 million viewers and 2.1 rating in the A18-49 demo during its first run.

Also on MSNBC, Alex Wagner, part of the net’s daytime lineup from 2011-15, has returned to serve as senior political analyst nd guest anchor.

Spotify CEO Daniel Eks told employees “there are no words I can say to adequately convey how deeply sorry” he is for the way the company’s controversial podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” has affected them. But it’s still staying on the platform. “Canceling voices is a slippery slope,” said Eks, while acknowledging the Rogan situation has left many employees “feeling drained, frustrated and unheard.” Instead, Eks committed to investing $100 million for the licensing, development and marketing of music and audio content from “historically marginalized groups.”

Conservative political analyst Jonah Goldberg has joined CNN as a contributor. In November, Goldberg and fellow Fox News commentator Stephen Hayes announced in the New York Times that they were leaving the network, saying “the voices of the responsible are being drowned out but the irresponsible.” FNC’s Tucker Carlson labeled the exits “great news.”

CTV advertising delivery and measurement platform Innovid and TVSquared, the measurement and attribution platform for converged TV, have entered into a definitive agreement in which Innovid will acquire TVSquared in a cash and stock transaction valued at approximately $160 million. “In acquiring TVSquared, we aim to provide the most complete view of the total TV and digital universe through a scalable, currency-grade measurement platform,” said Zvika Netter, CEO and Co-Founder of Innovid. “Additionally, we immediately accelerate and broaden our scope globally.”

The Winter Games are creating a better consumer experience than the competition, said NBCU Ads & Partnerships, noting that during prime time, the first day of the Olympics had a 14% lighter ad load and delivered 247% more ad impressions per unit than the other broadcast networks. Traditional ratings may be a challenge, but when measured second by second, ads within the Olympics are showing strong engagement: 98% completion rate for all of Sunday’s Olympic programming, and 13% less ad interruption rate of ads across all TV programming. Brand Recall and Message Memorability were up +53% and +70%, respectively, versus competitive broadcast/cable norms. The most liked ad by consumers: Delta’s “Will to Fly,” for its inspiring message.

Meta responded to a preliminary order from the EU, compelling the suspension of transfers of EU users’ data to the US, by threatening to stop operations of Facebook and Instagram in Europe. While European Union regulators hope to keep users’ data in their own nations, Facebook Ireland’s head of data protection responded, “It is not clear…how, in those circumstances, [Meta] could continue to provide the Facebook and Instagram services in the EU.”

LockerDome has relaunched as Decide, introducing its machine learning and decision platform, the Decision Marketplace, to help navigate shifts currently impacting the digital advertising industry. The technology enables the rapid development of machine learning models to render automated, intelligent decisions and optimize outcomes for brands and publishers across the open web without the use of third-party cookies or intrusive identity-layer data.

IAB Tech Lab has formed The Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) Working Group, inviting developers working on advanced cryptography, data scientists, privacy and security systems engineers and others to participate. “In 2020, we launched Project Rearc as a global call to action to ‘re-architect’ digital marketing, and since then, we’ve been developing a portfolio of solutions to support addressability and the sustainability of an ad-funded internet,” said Shailley Singh, SVP, product, IAB Tech Lab.

GOING GLOBAL

UK’s Channel 5 has said it will stop funding “Neighbors,” the 37-year-old Australian soap, beyond this summer – but “someone will pick it up,” said former BBC One Controller Michael Grade, speaking to BBC Radio 4. “It’s a big brand and will get a lot of publicity.” Channel 5 said the decision to drop “Neighbors” was part of a focus on increasing investment in original UK drama.

Starzplay has acquired “The Girl From Plainville” from NBCUniversal Global Distribution for the platform in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, and Latin America.
