IN THE NEWS
It’s official: “1923” will have a season two. The debut of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel series on Paramount+ was the most-watched premiere on the streamer ever in the US, with 7.4 million total viewers across Paramount+ and linear previews.
Also getting a sophomore run is “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.” After dethroning “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” as the top new series premiere in AMC+ history last month, the series will further expand the Anne Rice Immortal Universe on AMC and AMC+. Production is expected to begin later this year in New Orleans.
Three’s a trend: Netflix greenlit a second season of “That ‘90s Show.” The “That ‘70s Show” spinoff premiered on January 19 and has totaled more than 41 million hours viewed, reaching the streamer’s Top 10 English TV list in 35 countries. “We owe the fans, old and new, for taking the trip with us in the first season – and we can’t wait to be there with them in the second season,” said Lindsey Turner, co-creator and executive producer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that Dolly Parton was a producer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Gellar said, “Yes, little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer.” She continued, “We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.’”

COMING UP
Woody Harrelson is hosting “Saturday Night Live” with musical guest Jack White on February 25. This will mark Harrelson’s fifth time hosting the sketch comedy show, and his first since 2019. White has performed on “SNL” three times – once as the rock duo The White Stripes in 2002, and then as a solo act in March 2012 and October 2020.
“The Real Housewives of Potomac” three-part reunion kicks off February 19 at 8p. Host Andy Cohen will return to the couch with Gizelle Bryant, Karen Huger, Ashley Darby and the rest of the RHOP cast for Bravo’s end-of-season catchup. The remaining episodes will air on February 26 and March 5 at 8p.
“Love to Love You, Donna Summer” is slated for May. Produced by Summer’s daughter Brooklyn Sudano and husband Bruce Sudano, the HBO special will trace the life and career of Summer from the local German music scene to New York’s dance clubs.
Comedy special “Bitch, Grow Up!” debuts on HBO on February 10. The stand-up comedy special from Latinx comedian Marcella Arguello will address post-pandemic hook ups and why broke men are better in bed.
The “Full House” crew will reunite for ‘90s Con from That’s4Entertainment. Andrea Barber, Candace Cameron Bure, Dave Coulier and Jodie Sweetin will attend the event on March 18 and 19 in Hartford, Connecticut, for a Q&A panel and a meet and greet. The first English-language broadcast of US Men’s Soccer drew 416,000 viewers for TNT. The United States-Colombia game (0-0) on Saturday, January 28 was watched by 540,000 during Telemundo’s Spanish-language broadcast – for a combined tally of 956,000, according to Nielsen.
FOX Sports unveiled its 2023 Daytona Speedweeks broadcaster lineup. For the network’s 23rd consecutive season of NASCAR coverage, play-by-play announcer Mike Joy and analyst Clint Bowyer will headline the FOX NASCAR Booth alongside guest analysts, including Dayota 500-winning crew chief Larry McReynolds, and NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart.
Super Bowl Monday could become a state holiday in Tennessee. Under a proposed bill introduced by Tennessee State Senator London Lamar and Tennessee State Representative Joe Towns Jr., the football aftermath day would replace Columbus Day as an official state holiday. Representative Towns said, “My bill simply wants to examine giving the rest of us the day off. Let’s face it, it doesn’t get much more American than the Super Bowl and it’s becoming more and more the norm to miss work the next day. So maybe we should just codify it…or at least just talk about it.”
GOING GLOBAL
ITV and the BBC have expanded their professional development program with registered psychologists. Accredited by the British Psychological Society, HCPC-registered practitioner psychologists will support the companies in pre-production and on set. Those who complete the program will join the broadcasters’ pools of approved psychologists to support productions.
