Nine networks, one Upfront: For the first time, Turner Broadcasting will bundle Adult Swim, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, HLN, TBS, TNT, truTV and Turner Sports for one big Upfront event, Wednesday, May 13 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Why the mass gathering? “We have a unique position in today’s marketplace in that we offer advertisers opportunities across all screens and genres of programming news, sports, entertainment and kids,”Turner Broadcasting sales president Donna Speciale tells Cynopsis. As for the annual hot-ticket Adult Swim bash (Outkast performed last year) “the most anticipated party of the week” will serve as a nightcap after the morning event.
Dish Network did not infringe Fox’s copyright with its PrimeTime Anytime and AutoHop services, ruled a U.S. District Judge in the lawsuit over DVR technology, but did violate a 2002 agreement prohibiting it from authorizing the copying of Fox programming without permission. The summary judgment, issued under seal on January 12, was released in redacted form this week. “Consumers are the winners today,” said Dish. Countered Fox, “This case is not, and has never been, about consumer rights or new technology. It’s always been about protecting creative works from being exploited without permission.”
VH1 reality series LeAnn & Eddie, chronicling the marriage of singer LeAnn Rimes and actor Eddie Cibrian, has been canceled after its eight-ep first season. The show debuted in July, with the couple saying they hoped it would help dispel misconceptions about their relationship.
NYC photography exhibit “Behind The Lens: An Intimate Look at the World of Suits” features candid behind-the-scenes photos of the series cast and crew by star Patrick J. Adams. The sale of selection of photos will benefit Pablove Shutterbugs, a program that teaches the art of photography to pediatric cancer patients. The gallery, located at 402 West 13th Street, will be open to the public from Friday, January 23-Sunday; Adams will hold daily meet and greets with fans.
NBC News’ Peacock Productions is teaming with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to produce underwater expeditions of three group’s recent discoveries on the ocean floor. First up: the first-ever exploration of German U-boat–576, sunk by aircraft fire more than 72 years ago. Project is slated to air live in 2015.
Fox ordered four pilots, dramas Frankenstein, Rosewood and Luther from 20th Century Fox Television, and comedy 48 Hours ‘Til Monday from Universal Television. Luther, a remake of the British series starring Idris Elba, counts Elba as an exec producer, along with original series creator Neil Cross.

Independent production company Eyeworks USA, founded as 3 Ball Productions in 2001, is taking its old name back. The change follows Warner Bros.’ 2014 acquisition of the Eyeworks Group of 15 international production companies, which did not include Eyeworks USA. Company co-founder and current CEO Todd A. Nelson and COO Ross Weintraub will serve as co-CEOs, while co-founder JD Roth leaves his day-to-day CEO responsibilities to focus on creative, production and new initiatives.
NBC is taking a second helping of Food Fighters. During its 2014 run, the summer cooking competition from Electus delivered the biggest regularly scheduled first-to-second-week gain (1.0 to 1.3, up 30 percent) in the A18-49 demo for any new series in over two years.
After an energetic performance by The Voice talent Chris Jamison at the NBCU party at South Beach’s Delano Hotel that got people up and dancing, Wednesday’s NATPE saw chatter aplenty. Topics included tonight’s premiere of Nightwatch on A&E from prolific producers Dick Wolf and 44 Blue’s Rasha Drachkovitch, whose other shows include Wahlburgers, Donny Loves Jenny, and MSNBC’s Lock Up. Of the celebrities he works with, Drachkovitch says that Mark Wahlberg is the most business savvy. “He has a clear vision, and is always two steps ahead…when I’m with him, I have to hang on a little bit.”
Onstage during his session at NATPE, Jay Leno made it clear he’s a fan of new late night host Larry Wilmore, whose show launched on Comedy Central Monday night. Calling The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore “terrific,” the former Tonight Show host welcomed Wilmore’s “different perspective.”

Miami Vice debuts on Cozi TV Sunday, March 1, the month of the crime drama’s 30th anniversary, with a marathon from 1p-5p. The show then takes its regular weekday slot at 11p, with Saturday airings at 8p and 9p.
Waiting in the wings at PBS: Earth – A New Wild promises to distinguish itself from other nature shows by “showing the world as it really is with humans in the picture,” starting Wednesday, February 4 at 9p. America’s Ballroom Challenge, a three-part dance competition that also features behind-the-scenes footage, bows Friday, April 24 at 9p.
The premiere of TLC makeover show Style by Jury was pushed back a week, to Friday, February 20 at 9:30p. First fashion victim: a frumpy working mom who has to put on a full-body suit to figure out where her waist is.

Unilever’s repurposing its Father’s Day spot for the Super Bowl. Touched up with new text to widen the focus to men in general (with hashtag #RealStrength replacing #RealDadMoments), the Dove + Men Care ad (here it is, grab a hankie) will air during the game’s first quarter, February 1 on NBC.
Speaking of the big game, NBC Sports launched a Tumblr for viewers who are more interested in Clydesdales and puppies than Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. The page will show Super Bowl ads immediately after they air. “We recognize that Super Bowl TV ads are must-see content for many viewers, and we’re thrilled to connect our digital audience to the spots in a seamless manner immediately after they air on television,” said Rick Cordella, NBC Sports Group SVP and GM for digital media.
