How much will Prime Video’s pivot to offering an ad-supported tier boost its business? MoffattNathanson is among those with a rosy view – the research company projects revenue from Prime Video ads will reach $1.3 billion in 2024, rising to $2.3 billion in 2025. “We are going to find out what happens to an advertising market when a brand-new entrant with excess capacity, unrivaled first-party data advantages and massive unduplicated reach decides to put a ‘for sale’ sign in its window,” said MoffattNathanson in a research note. Commercials on the streamer start today; the ad-adverse will have to pony up an extra $2.99 month.

Color Spotify CEO Dan Ek unhappy, to say the least, with Apple’s response to EU’s Digital Markets Act. “After sitting with our legal team to parse through the fine print of Apple’s DMA announcement (that took a while), which is, at best vague and misleading, I wanted to share my thoughts,” posted Ek on social. “While Apple has behaved badly for years, what they did yesterday represents a new low, even for them.” Ek notes that in the “convoluted” new model, any app with tens or hundreds of millions of EU users would be hit with a new tax on every download and upload annually. “Under the new terms, we cannot afford these fees if we want to be a profitable company, so our only option is to stick with the status quo. The very thing we’ve been fighting against for five years,” said Ek.

Apple’s iOS 17.3 iPhone offers a new security feature, “stolen device protection,” to protect users from sneaking strangers. After a Wall Street Journal investigation found that thieves would befriend people in places like bars, ask for passcodes so they could to enter contact details, then steal their phones, Apple introduced the feature, which requires Face ID or Touch ID authentification to access data like passwords and credit cards.

AI is one of the risk factors Netflix notes in its 10-k report filed with the SEC on Friday. “Technological developments, including the development and use of generational artificial intelligence, are rapidly evolving,” Netflix wrote in a section of the report required by the SEC. “If our competitors gain an advantage by using such technologies, our ability to compete effectively and our results of operations could be adversely impacted.”

Sexually explicit AI-generated images of Taylor Swift went viral across X and other platforms on Wednesday, and outrage reached all the way to the White House. “There should be legislation, obviously, to deal with this issue,” said WH press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. By Saturday, searches for Swift were met with an error message, a move Head of Business Operations Joe Benarroch called “a temporary action and done with an abundance of caution as we prioritize safety on this issue.”

Publicis Groupe has already shifted from a holding company to a platform company. NBC Sports and the immersive tech and media company Cosm have entered a partnership aimed at transforming the way US soccer fans and college football fans experience Premier League matches and Notre Dame and Big Ten football games. Cosm will produce and present LIVE Premier League soccer matches, and Notre Dame and Big Ten football games in “Shared Reality” on their 87-foot diameter 8K+ LED domes. “Fans know NBC Sports delivers a best-in-class sports experience and by adding the EPL, College Football, and Horse Racing to the programming schedule, it ensures we always have live, original, immersive content,” said Jeb Terry, Cosm’s President and CEO.

DirecTV Advertising and InfoSum are collaborating to create a first-party data-matching solution. The deal will enable advertisers to:
· Compare their first-party data against DirecTV and DirecTV Stream’s cross-platform audience of millions

FuboTV has launched Instant Headlines, a beta feature that generates contextual news topics as they are reported live on air. Instant Headlines surfaces current programming topics and highlights them in 10 words or less in the home page news carousel. The page constantly refreshes each channel tile in the carousel, updating the user on the current topic being discussed on that channel. From there, the user can click on the channel tile to watch the live segment. Instant Headlines, available to Fubo users on FireTV and Android TV, is currently integrated with select 24 hour news channels.

datafuelX is partnering with MRI-Simmons to enable the scoring of device-level viewing data sets with age/sex propensities and other MRI-Simmons attributes for targeted advertising sales, and pre- and post-campaign reporting. The solution will be offered to ACR and STB providers in the US. “The industry has long had the ability to profile device-level TV viewing data using household attributes like ‘Presence of a Male 18 to 24.’ We will be able to identify the TVs that are actually being viewed by this demo, based on the MRI-Simmons modeling attributes and actual viewership of that TV,” said Howard Shimmel, Head of Strategy at datafuelX. “profileX can help the industry more broadly by being able to fill in important attributes that various states are restricting.”

Nielsen inked a multi-year renewal agreement with FOX that includes measurement for broadcast, cable and free streaming networks, and Nielsen ONE Ads measurement across all FOX properties. FOX will continue to license Nielsen’s suite of planning and audience measurement solutions.
