ADVERTISING

Among top lines from SpotX’s just-released 2019 Video Advertising Trends Report, which advises that both buyers and sellers remain flexible and open to change:
* The U.S. remains the OTT leader with more than half of all global OTT viewing; Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia are close behind with linear broadcasts in OTT environments and large emphasis on mobile.
* In 2018, OTT viewing grew by 17 percent YoY, total U.S. OTT households now number 59.5 million, 63.5 percent of U.S. households with Wi-Fi.
* Advertisers are gaining access to more data for personalization.
* An investment in local language content will be the key to global growth.
* Pay TV providers still capture 4 hours and 46 minutes of adults’ TV time (live and time-shifted).
* MVPDs will offset subscriber losses and increase net revenues by raising subscription costs.
* Local ad revenues are expected to decline 4.9 percent in 2019 because political dollars will recede before the big 2020 push.
* Consumers are experiencing ad fatigue. Media owners and advertisers must start to live up to new expectations for ads including making them engaging, non-disruptive and relevant.
* Programmatic direct and private marketplace deals will account for 79.6 percent of all programmatic deals by the end of 2019.
