PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Netflix ordered animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots, exec-produced by David Fincher and Tim Miller through Blur Studios. Eighteen-parter will feature episodes ranging from 5-15 minutes long created by different animation teams.

Grey’s Anatomy isn’t showing its age in season 15. ABC ordered three more episodes of the Shonda Rhimes medical drama, for a total of 25. Grey’s is averaging a 3.1 rating among A18-49 in Live+7 Nielsens.

HGTV has an expert on hand for A Very Brady Renovation: Lloyd Schwartz, one of the producers of the original The Brady Bunch and son of series creator Sherwood Schwartz. The younger Schwartz will offer insights on stories about the set, house and cast. “It’s so surreal that I get to be part of this exciting new chapter of our show,” he said. “In some form, we’ve been on the air since the 1960s. What a perfect way to celebrate our 50th anniversary!”

MEASUREMENT

Nielsen has reached an agreement with Google that will allow Nielsen’s Total Ad Ratings to report OTT audiences and expand the measurement of mobile audience, including YouTube’s. Google had been relying on its own measurements to sell YouTube. “Providing currency caliber cross-platform audience measurement is core to our mission, and we’re excited to enhance our Total Ad Ratings product to do just that,” said Amanda Tarpey, SVP of Product Leadership, Digital at Nielsen. “Whether consumers are streaming from their TV or their smartphones, Nielsen will be able to reflect their ad viewership and incrementality as part of its audience reporting – a major step.”

Offline location intelligence and consumer insights company Cuebiq announced the launch of its TV attribution solution, offering a cross-channel view of how the media mix, including both linear and advanced television, impacts the customer journey to brick-and-mortar locations. Cuebiq’s TV attribution offering integrates opt-in TV viewing data from multiple partners into its AI-driven location intelligence platform, Clara. “Given the unique scale of our data integrations with a variety of partners, our intuitive and interactive platform enables clients to slice and dice results for deeper insights, as well as better visualize their campaign metrics and ad effectiveness,” said Antonio Tomarchio, Founder and CEO of Cuebiq.

Backstage at the Golden Globes: “This is what 59 looks like,” said a triumphant Patricia Clarkson, who credits her parents and “a wonderful childhood” for allowing her to explore dark characters like the highly damaged, sinister Adora in Sharp Objects. “Adora is one for the books, but for all of her faults and foibles, I still love her,” she said…. Michael Douglas is a real family guy. Aside from touting wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’ new Facebook show Queen America, he tipped his hat to his dad, Kirk Douglas, for giving him the best advice of his life. “He was out of a school where you give it your best shot, and you want to walk away knowing you gave it the best you can and then, f**k it.”

Patricia Arquette, who took home the Globes statuette for best performance by an actress for her role in Escape at Dannemora, lauded Showtime for providing a stereotype-busting creative atmosphere. “Is she likable enough? Is she attractive enough? I felt so free. Part of that came directly from Showtime. I had not one of those kind of boundaries and input,” Arquette said backstage. She also lauded a time when television is creating more roles for women over 40. “I never thought I’d get a part like this in middle age – a sexual person, a complicated person who wants love. I don’t have the typical [Hollywood] body type, and I have friends who don’t have the typical body type and they’ve come to me and said, I want to thank you for this project.” For more of what you didn’t see during the telecast, go to Cynsiders.
