Endemol North America digital network Endemol Beyond USA (Big Brother and Wipeout) signed a premium content deal with 11-year-old YouTube pop-rapper MattyB (or Matthew Morris). Endemol will launch a new channel around the star, expand the original content offerings and distribute them across its multiple platforms. MattyB has 2.4 million subscribers on YouTube, and 833 million videos since joining YT when he was just 7 years old.
Sony ordered its first original series for its PlayStation Network. Called Powers, the show will consist of ten episodes, focusing on characters with supernatural abilities. Microsoft is currently developing its own original series for Xbox Live subscribers based on the video game Halo. No premiere date has been set for Powers yet.
Sony entertainment network Crackle announced that the third season of Chosen will premiere on April 15. The series is comprised of six episodes, and brings back actor Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and adds Rose McGowan (Charmed) into the cast. The show will be available at Crackle.com and on mobile devices through its app.
Defy Media launched a third season of Speakeasy with Paul F. Tompkins on the Made Man website. The new season, which takes on a similar celebrity-sit-down style interview to Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, will feature guests like The Sixth Sense‘s Haley Joel Osment, Sons of Anarchy‘s Kurt Sutter and Community‘s Jim Rash. The show can be seen at Made Man’s newly designed site and YouTube channel.
Netflix will stream the TV miniseries based on the Academy Award-winning film Fargo in the Netherlands 24 hours after its April 15 FX premiere in the U.S. This is the latest international deal from the streaming service; Netflix made a similar arrangement with El Ray series From Dusk Till Dawn and Breaking Bad. The show will include stars such as Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman (Sherlock) and Kat Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy).
… Netflix has also acquired the streaming rights to mockumentary comedy Short Poppies. The series’ eight episodes are created by and star HBO‘s Flight of the Conchords‘ Rhys Darby. It is set to premiere on April 3 for U.S., Canada, U.K. and Ireland subscribers.

Comcast‘s second annual Xfinity Watchathon Week is bringing entire current season of shows like Bates Motel, Downton Abbey and The Walking Dead to customers at any subscription level. Xfinity TV subscribers can plan their binge-viewing schedule at the Watchathon Headquarters site, and then begin the marathon across platforms like Xfinity.com/TV and the Xfinity TV Go app on March 31.

Twitter rolled out a new video host platform which allows mobile devices users to preview video clips in their feeds with a single click. The NBA, known for its early adoption and high activity on Twitter, was the first to use the tool with the Amplify program, posting highlights from the Knicks-Pacers game on Wednesday. The New York Times reports that while testing the platform, Twitter discovered that video previews led to triple the number of users watching the actual video.
Tumblr and Viacom signed a major co-branded campaign deal yesterday for shows and events. Viacom networks (which include Comedy Central, MTV and VH1) will produce custom content for Tumblr, starting with the 2014 MTV Movie Awards in April. The two companies had worked together closely on campaigns for Paramount’s remake of Endless Love, using hashtagged pictures, gifs, and videos. Campaigns sold under the deal will carry both Tumblr and Viacom logos, according to Adweek.
Flappy Bird will take flight again soon, according to creator Dong Nguyen. He recently tweeted that he’s bringing a “better” version of the game back to stores; it must be amazing, because the game was reportedly making Nguyen $50,000 in ad revenue a day, and spawned countless imitations after he abruptly took it down from the app store last February, saying the game was “too addictive.”
Samsung announced a partnership with 20th Century Fox to integrate Ultra HD (also known as 4K) content into Samsung’s 4K TV on its SmartHub. The deal will be similar to the one made at CES this year, which offers streaming or downloadable 20th Century Fox 4K content directly to users through an app on the SmartHub.
With Google ramping up its presence this week in the wearable market, Nielsen released a study yesterday revealing that 70 percent of consumers are aware of smartwatches, fitness bands and other wearable tech. Those expected to buy this apparel are younger: 50% fall in the 18-34 demographic and are defined as early adopters. Samsung announced its Gear 2 smart watch and Gear Fit at the Mobile World Congress last month, and LG and Motorola will roll out Android Wear smartwatches with in the next few months – LG in the second quarter of 2014, Motorola this summer.

Zig Zag (the company behind YouTube channel All Time Magic) appointed Matt Graff as its new Commercial Director. Gaff was previously the CEEMEA Senior Director Production & Commissioning at Viacom.
