Premium network HBO ordered 11 one-hour episodes of the period drama Boardwalk Empire. The series, with 12 total episodes including the pilot, is set in 1920s Atlantic City during the early days of Prohibition and chronicles the life of politician/gangster Nucky Thompson played by Steve Buscemi. Production will begin this fall in New York with a 2010 projected premiere date. The series, created by Terence Winter (Sopranos) will co-star Michael Shannon, Michael Kenneth Williams, Dabney Coleman, Kelly Macdonald and Michael Pitt. Martin Scorsese, who directed the pilot episode will executive produce along with Winter, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Tim Van Patten. The project received a pilot commitment from CBS and will be produced by Warner Bros. TV. The plot is an ensemble comedy about a book editor and her group of friends. MTV okayed a pilot presentation order based on the 1985 feature film Teen Wolf which starred Michael J. Fox. MTV announced the project as part of its development slate in January. Jeff Davis is penning the TV script and also executive produces the pilot with Marty Adelstein and Rene Echevarria. FOX approved a new drama titled Worthy from Davey Holmes (In Treatment), cites THR. FOX gave a pilot commitment with penalty to the drama about an Arizona politician named Worthy whose career goes south after he is involved in a hit-and-run and is blackmailed by a mob boss. The show is said to be inspired by recent disgraced politicians such as Eliot Spitzer and Rod Blagojevich. Holmes will executive produce along with Gavin Polone.
