MORE KIDS STUFF

Disney Channel UK will premiere two new original fashion-centric series next month, Fashion Wizards and Get the Look, both from indie production company Maverick Television (How To Look Good Naked, 10 Years Younger), this October.

  • Inspired by Wizards of Waverly Place’s fashion gal Selena Gomez, Fashion Wizards features four kids as they work to create a fashion line and catwalk show.  The program follows them every step of the way, from trend research to working with a designer, choosing fabric, making the clothes, choosing models, music and choreographing the fashion show.  Fashion Wizards launches with 6×5 episodes, followed by a series of 3×12 episodes, and culminating in a final half-hour show.
  • Get the Look (12×1), hosted by Electra Formosa, will precede Fashion Wizards.  Each episode aims to teach viewers how to emulate the look of various Disney Channel stars, such as Demi Lovato in Sonny With A Chance.

Zodiak Rights launches Qpiz, a new tween/teen-girl aimed international multiplatform property, in London at Brand Licensing Europe.  Created by Italy-based Neo Network, the digital arm of Zodiak Media Group, Qpiz includes: a series of animated shorts that will air on Rai (Italy) beginning around Valentine’s Day 2011; a online world at www.theqpiz.com featuring games and quizzes; a Facebook page and the ‘Love shots’ app; comic strips in Italian teen-targeted magazines; and the recently published book, The Tests of Qpiz, which will be followed by three other titles.  Zodiak Rights represents the worldwide (excluding Asia and Italy) licensing and merchandising and the global TV distribution rights to Qpiz.

Germany’s ARD Network and KIKA acquire The Saddle Club season 3.  With dubbing on the episodes underway, the series will air in 2011.  Additionally, Universal Pictures Visual Programming picks up the DVD rights to the series.  Furthermore, Marathon Media, which is handling the European licensing for The Saddle Club, has appointed Glam Marketing to oversee licensing in Germany.  Co-produced by Crawford Productions and Protocol Entertainment, The Saddle Club is distributed internationally by Eaton Films, which will offer the series at Mipcom.

9 Story Entertainment finalizes international deals for the new animated wildlife series Wild Kratts (40×22).  Wild Kratt is a co-production between creators the Kratt Brothers Company and 9 Story Entertainment.  9 Story Entertainment distributes the series internationally.  Discovery Kids Latin America has acquired the rights to the full series.  Additional new broadcast deals have been inked with Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (Middle East), NOGA (Israel), TV3 (Spain) and Dublin Films (Ireland).  The series premieres in 2011 on PBS Kids Go! (US), while Canadian broadcasters for the series are TVOntario, Knowledge Network and Tele-Quebec.

Bejuba! Entertainment secures two new series, Mr. Moon (26×30 or 52×11) and Fizzy’s Lunch Lab (47×1-5 minute episodes) that it will showcase at MipJunior and Mipcom.  Additionally, will also screen newly completed episodes of the preschool series Stella and Sam and The Hive in Cannes.

  • Mr. Moon is a preschool series that follows Mr. Moon’s adventures in the night sky.  Bejuba! holds the TV, DVD and digital rights for series worldwide (excluding Asia).  Small Screen Distribution will hand the series in Asia.  Based on the book series by author/illustrator Kate Veale, Mr. Moon is a co-production between Sparky Animation, Galileo Productions in the UK and Title Entertainment in Canada.  The series is produced in cooperation with Playhouse Disney UK, TVO Kids, Knowledge Network, and SCN.
  • Created by CloudKid Studios and Hero4Hire, Fizzy’s Lunch Lab is a multiplatform property, with the webseries already having aired on PBS website in the US.  A second season of the series is currently in production.

Clarification: If you were curious where The Pokemon Company would be showcasing its new series … that would be at Mipcom in Cannes.
