The world’s largest social networking site is on track to more than double its revenue this year, thanks to a big boost from ad dollars and from Facebook Credits. Facebook should reach $4.27 billion in revenue in 2011, up from $2 billion last year, according to a new eMarketer report.  The research firm expects Facebook Credits to bring in about $470 million, an increase from $140 million in 2010. Advertising comprises the bulk of the bottom line and should clock in at $3.8 billion, more than double last year’s $1.86 billion haul. The portion of revenue from ads will dip to 89% from 95% of total revenue as the new venture grows, eMarketer said. Look for the site to take in about $5.78 billion in revenue in 2012.
 

~ MULTIPLATFORM CONTENT NEWS ~

 
Digital TV network Revision3 is live streaming one of its shows for the first time on a regular basis. Starting this week, Revision3 will broadcast its video game news show Destructoid live on Fridays from its San Francisco studio. The Monday and Wed editions of the show will still be prerecorded.

Digital music network Music Choice said it now counts 34.9 million listeners ages 13 and up across all dayparts, an increase of 3 million from 2008. According to an Ipsos study of viewers across Music Choice’s 46 channels, 9 of 10 listeners listen weekly and 8 of 10 listen daily. 

 
~ DIGITAL ADVERTISING ~

Video ad technology provider Eyeview said personalized video ads can increase purchase intent, brand favorability and brand loyalty, according to a new study Knowledge Networks conducted on its behalf. The study participants who saw ads with personalized messaging rated those brands more favorably in recall and intent to purchase.
 
Consumers in the market for autos seem keen on accessing car info on their phones.  Among those who view auto content on their phone, 31% access the content once a week, and 21% access the content almost every day, according to a study from mobile ad network Millenial Media . Mobile auto consumers are mostly 18 to 34, with the audience about 68% male. About one-third of mobile auto consumers make more than $100,000 a year.
 

 ~ TRENDS, RESEARCH, ETC.  ~

 
The sponsorship of social features surrounding entertainment programming content can lend a big boost to brand favorability, purchase intent and perceptions of brand leadership, connection and product quality, according to a new study from Yahoo analyzing a campaign an automotive brand did surrounding the Academy Awards. Social voting in particular can drive site engagement, the study said, suggesting that brands may indeed benefit from adding social components to online campaigns. The report found that after only one exposure, 40% liked the brand more because of their sponsorship of social features.

If you were on Twitter on Sunday night, you know it was all Emmys all night and the ratings prove it. According to SocialGuide, the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox was the most buzzed about TV event for the week ending Sept. 19 with more uniques and comments than second-place Jersey Shore on MTV and Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants in third.

 

~ TECHNOLOGY DEALS, MERGERS AND SKIRMISHES ~
 

TV networks and media companies can no longer offer certain text-to-win sweepstakes due to a settlement ruling of a class action lawsuit in California. The ruling primarily covers contests where there would be a premium messaging fee to enter, said a report in Mobile Marketer Daily.

 

Online campaign platform Change.org  merged with the European-based campaigns platforms Actuable, to create what the companies say is now the world’s largest activism site. Both sites have been used by individuals and others to drive social change through petitions, campaigns and other efforts to garner support for a cause.
 

~ GADGETS & APPS ~

 
One in six Americans now use an eReader, up from one in ten just a year ago, according to a new Harris Poll. Of those who don’t have an eReader, about 15% will buy one in the next six months. The study also found that those who have eReaders are reading more books than they were before. About 16% of Americans read between 11 and 20 books per year, with one in five reading more than 20 books per year. Among those with eReaders, about one third read 11 to 20 books per year, and more than one quarter read more than 20 books per year.
