Cynopsis: Kids!
09/12/12

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, September 12, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Cartoon Network greenlights two new animated series, Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa, that were born out of shorts development initiative at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, CA. Both creator driven series have begun pre-production and are on course to launch on the network in 2013.

  • Steven Universe, created by Adventure Time writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar, is a coming-of-age story told from the point-of-view of Steven, the youngest member of a team of magical Guardians of the Universe.
  • Uncle Grandpa is based upon the Emmy nominated short of the same name and follows the exploits of Uncle Grandpa – everyone in the world’s “magical” uncle and grandpa. The series was created by animator/filmmaker Pete Browngardt, who was creator/executive producer of Cartoon Network’s animated series Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. Browngardt has worked on many of the network’s series including Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Adventure Time. Early in his career he worked on Futurama, and has worked for Industrial Light and Magic, Augenblick studios and MTV Animation.
