Ad-supported MOJO HD will soon be shuttered by its distributor, InDemand. Owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox, InDemand confirmed it will only program MOJO HD through December 1, 2008, although some MSOs may chose to discontinue the channel much earlier, opting to use the channel space for other HD networks.  InDemand released this statement: “The MOJO HD channel was originally conceived as a way to satisfy consumers’ thirst for pure true high definition programming. While MOJO HD accomplished this goal, there is a wealth of HD programming now available and thus we have chosen to discontinue the service.”

Citing declining ratings, FX pulled the plug on The Riches, reports Variety. The series ran over two seasons and experienced a -44% dip in ratings among A18-49 viewers during season two compared to the inaugural season. The Riches, featuring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard in lead roles was produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.

Tokyo Broadcasting System is suing ABC over the reality series Wipeout, claiming copyright infringement, per Variety. The Japanese broadcaster filed the lawsuit in the federal court in Los Angeles yesterday, alleging Wipeout took elements from three of its programs Takeshi’s Castle, Sasuke and Kuniochi. Takeshi’s Castle aired in the U.S. on TBS from 1986-89 and Sasuke has also been on TBS since 1998.

Music Choice, the multi-platform video/music network introduces new interactive programming blocks. On Music Choice’s Hit List, Alternative, Today’s Country, Musica Urbana and Hip-Hop and R&B music channels from 3-10p Monday-Friday, viewers can “Be on TV” by submitting photo and text messages using their mobile phones, email, AOL Instant Messenger and via a new designated ShowOff web page.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

TBS renewed the original comedy My Boys for a third season. Produced by Pariah and Two Out Rally Productions, Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television, TBS ordered nine new episodes slated to begin in first quarter 2009.

A new take on the British comedy Absolutely Fabulous is in development for FOX, cites Variety. FOX handed Sony Pictures Television a script order with penalties attached. The new version will copy the original series, created by Jennifer Saunders, keeping characters Edina and Patsy, two over-the-top 40-ish best friends who party hearty and try to act young, while Edina’s disapproving teenage daughter looks on. The new edition though will be set in Los Angeles versus the UK. Besides Sony Pictures TV, Tantamount and BBC Worldwide America will produce; Christine Zander (SNL) will write the script and executive produce, along with Mitch Hurwitz, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Ian Moffet and Saunders.

NBC Universal Digital Studio announced its opening lineup of original productions. NBCU Digital Studio was designed so that advertisers and content producers collaborate from the start on digital projects. The new slate includes:

  • Loving Larry – a group of twentysomething guys, unlucky with the ladies, create a phony Bachelor-style reality show where dozens of beautiful women show up for the casting call. Produced by 60Frames Entertainment.

  • Mr. Miss Teen U.S.A.-  an 18-year old male wins a lawsuit to enter the Miss Teen USA Pageant. Produced by 60Frames Entertainment.
  • Four Corners – four teams of four people compete in various challenges in a battle of brains as they race to the center of the U.S. From NBCU Digital Studio.
  • True Story – docu-series about unusual individuals and their lifestyles. From NBCU Digital Studio.

  • The Remnants – from John August (Big Fish, Charlie’s Angels) this is a humorous look at a group of friends trying to survive and who realize they are some of the last living humans. From 60Frames Entertainment.

Three actresses were cast in the HBO pilot The Washingtoniennes from Sarah Jessica Parker, per THR. Rachael Taylor, Amanda Walsh and Bitsie Tulloch will star together in the comedy based on the semi-autobiographical book by Jessica Cutler about the professional and personal lives of three young women working on Capitol Hill. David Furr was also cast as a senatorial aide and boyfriend to one of the girls. The pilot is produced by HBO and Parker’s Pretty Matches Productions.
