Say hello to the iPhone 4S, launching on October 14, and the iOS 5, which will be available as a free update on October 12. Let’s just get to the exciting stuff. First and foremost, Apple unveiled Siri, a voice-based “intelligent assistant” that helps you do things by simply asking. For example, you can use Siri to call people, set reminders, compose and dictate e-mail, get traffic info and directions, weather and more. Siri will be available in English, German and French with more languages to follow in the future. On top of that, Apple discussed the integration of iCloud across many of its apps and services. For example, songs, photos, documents, books, contacts and the calendar will all be automatically synced across all iOS devices and the Mac when updated on just one device. Finally, the iPhone 4S will have wireless update capabilities, meaning you won’t need to connect it to a PC. The iPhone 4S will be available for $399 (64GB), $299 (32GB) and $199 (16GB) and it will be available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. ~ MULTIPLATFORM CONTENT NEWS ~

 
Sony Movie Channel has unveiled Sony Movie Channel Everywhere, an online version of the channel that offers full-length, uncut and uninterrupted feature films at no additional charge to DIRECTV and DISH Network customers. The customers can access the movie library by logging in using their satellite carrier account’s username/email address and password.
 
Turner Broadcasting UK
will use Milyoni‘s Social Cinema technology to offer the first episode of five Adult Swim TV shows for free on Facebook via the Adult Swim UK Facebook page. Nine additional episodes of each series will be made available to rent for 48 hours for 10 Facebook credits.
 
AnimalPlanet.com
will premiere a new web series today at 12PM called Dog Park. The six-part web-only series follows five dog lovers, and their pets, of the Washington Square dog park in New York City as they work together to improve the park.
 

~ INNOVATORS & START-UPS ~

 
True Fit is an adaptive software technology that aims to provide consumers with personalized recommendations on the online clothing and apparel that would fit them the best. Customers create a profile and input information including what clothes from their own closet fit them the best, their body type and other basic information. After that, as customers browse for clothes, they will be able to view recommendations generated from the True Fit engine. The company’s first online retail partner is Macy’s.
 

~ TECHNOLOGY DEALS, MERGERS AND SKIRMISHES ~
 

Online ad network IDG TechNetwork has selected Evidon‘s Assurance Platform, Evidon InForm, to implement the Advertising Option Icon into its advertisements in compliance with the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Self-Regulatory Program in the U.S. The agreement also includes delivering similar in-ad notifications to the European Union, complying with the European equivalent to the DAA’s program.
 

  ~ TRENDS, RESEARCH, ETC.  ~
 

According to a new eMarketer estimate, mobile ad spending in the U.S. is expected to grow 65% in 2011 to $1.23 billion, surpassing the billion dollar mark for the first time. In fact, by 2015, U.S. mobile advertising market will reach almost $4.4 billion. This estimate is a revision from a similar forecast in September 2010, when eMarketer predicted that ad spending would hit $1.1 billion in 2011 and would reach $2.5 billion in 2014.

‘s Jersey Shore remains the top dog in terms of social buzz, being the most talked about TV show on social networks for yet another week, according to data from SocialGuide. In fact, the only thing stopping it from being the top ranked primetime show for the last week of September was the NFL. SocialGuide also released data for all of September, where Jersey Shore also won out as the most social program, while the Emmys held down the title of most social episode.
 
The latest report from The NPD Group, Kids and Entertainment Content, 2011 Edition, reveals that digital content acquisition is on the rise amongst kids between the ages of 2 and 14. In 2011, $0.21 of every dollar spent on entertainment content by kids went to digital content, up from $0.15 in 2009.

Zodiak Active
has launched Being Human, a role-playing Facebook game that is based on the popular TV series produced by BBC and Syfy. In the game, which does not follow the show’s canon, allows players to enter the same world and navigate the lives of a vampire, ghost and werewolf who all share the same apartment and try to live normal lives while having to deal with not-as-normal issues. The game is free to play, but virtual goods and add-ons can be purchased.
 
Knowledge Adventure
, the maker of educational games for kids, is joining the casual gaming market with the launch of a family friendly mobile games brand, Twisted Games. The latest release from Twisted Games is Beaver’s Revenge, an arcade-style game for iOS and Android operating systems, which was launched at the end of August 2011, is currently a top 10 app in over 100 countries on iOS devices.
 
The Shopping List from Recipe.com iPhone and iPod Touch app from Meredith Corporation is now available in the App Store. The app allows users to create shopping lists on the go and find relevant deals from local supermarkets; add items by voice, barcode scan and text; auto-organize items by aisle; and share the lists on Recipe.com, among other things. The app adds to the Recipe.com offering which includes a magazine, website, mobile site and weekly TV segments.
 

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

 
Effective immediately, Gannett Co. Inc. hired Tom Cox as VP/Corporate Development in charge of mergers and acquisitions for the company.   Tom replaces Dan Ehrman in this position who is retiring on November 30.  Tom will report to Dan Ehrman until he retires and after that will report to Gracia Martore, President/COO.

Bravo Media has named Suejin Yang to the position of Vice President, Bravo Digital Media. Yang will manage the development, content, operations and new business opportunities for BravoTV.com. Based out of New York City, she will report directly to Lisa Hsia, EVP of Bravo Digital.

The MSNBC Digital Network is expanding its sales team with the promotion of Laura Hagen to General Manager of Brand Solutions and Moritz Loew to General Manager of National Sales. Hagen will supervise a team of digital sales strategists to create and deliver multiplatform solutions for ad partners. Loew will oversee a team of sales and account managers responsible for the company’s top 100 accounts and will work closely with sales partner, Microsoft Advertising. Both positions will be based out of New York.

Spanfeller Media Group, the company behind The Daily Meal, has named Jeff Bauer as its new Chief Product Officer, along with Joseph Haddock as the Chief Technology Officer of a new website that is yet to be named.

FiberMedia Group LLC, the enterprise-class data center facilities company, has appointed Christopher Baldwin to its management team as the new Vice President of Design/Build. In his new post, Mr. Baldwin will oversee the engineering and construction of new and operational data center facilities.


~ WEBSITE OF THE DAY ~

 
Discovery Channel has paired an upcoming new series titled Penn & Teller Tell a Lie, a show that challenges viewers to determine which one of the stories told by the hosts on the program is false, with its own second-screen experience app, called Guess the Lie. With this app, viewers can cast their votes up until the reveal at the end of the episode. Users will also be able to watch bonus videos, such as ones detailing how Penn & Teller were able to disguise their lies. The series premieres tonight at 10PM. The app will be made available shortly before on the iPhone, the iPad via an update of the Discovery Channel HD app, and online.
