Cynopsis: Kids!


Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 29, 2008 and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

The Jonas Brothers sign on with Fox to make movie debut in the feature film Walter the Farting Dog, per Variety.  Set to being filming in spring 2009, the family-targeted movie is based on the Walter the Farting Dog books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray.  The movie will feature the Jonas Brothers from the band, Nick, Joe and Kevin, in addition to their little brother Frankie, known to fans as “the bonus Jonas.”  While there is no official word on who will direct the picture, the report says it could be brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who are set to produce the picture with partner Bradley Thomas under their company Conundrum.


Qubo Channel launches four new kids series for the network, including Sammy’s Story Shop (5:30a), Maisy (6:30a, 10a), Gofrette (7a, 10:30a) and Adventures From the Book of Virtues (3:3p, 9p), beginning Monday, November 3.  That day will also see the debut of a new season of Dragon (9a, 12:30p) and new episodes of 3-2-1Penguins, Babar, Miss BG, My Friend Rabbit, Rupert, Theodore Tugboat and The Zula Patrol.  Furthermore Qubo Channel reshapes its daily grid to feature programming for preschoolers from 5a-1p, and for K6+ 1p-12a.

JimJam is set to launch a new feed next month on Singapore’s StarHub TV, making the preschool channel available to viewers in Asia for the first time.  Jim Jam is a joint venture between Hit Entertainment and Chellomedia.

KidsCo gets its official launch in Germany today on cable operator Unitymedia.  The channel, now available in 40+ territories, offers a range of programming for kids including Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, Cyberchase and Corduroy as well as a range of feature-length family movies.  KidsCo channel is a joint venture of NBC Universal, Cookie Jar Group and Corus Entertainment.


Digital entertainment studio Worldwide Biggies has developed a casual game for girls and tweens for Miss O & Friends portal. An exclusive browser version of the game is available on the Miss O site and the full version will be available for download at various gaming portals and for sale at retail outlets.

Cartoon Network Enterprises debuts D3Publisher‘s Ben 10 Alien Force The Game at retail this week in North America for Wii, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS and PSP (all versions are rated E 10+, except for the DS version, which is rated E).  Based on Cartoon Network’s animated series Ben 10 Alien Force, the multi-level game lets players help Ben and pals prevent an alien invasion, as well as taking on various powers, role play, among other things. Developed by Monkey Bar Games, Ben 10 Alien Force The Game is a follow-up to the Ben 10: Protector of Earth game.  Additionally, Cartoon Network Enterprises teams with Toys “R” Us to introduce a Ben 10 Alien Force boutique at the retailers Times Square store for the month of November.

From the big screen to the ice rink.  High School Musical: The Ice Tour introduces High School Musical 3: Senior Year Special Bonus Experience to ticket holders of the Feld Entertainment and Kenny Ortega produced event, beginning October 30.  The bonus part of the attraction features behind-the-scenes footage from the movie on video, as well as a sing-a-long dance party, which includes an on-screen dance lesson with moves from the new movie.  (

The TV series Dinosaur King will be featured at La Geode, an Omnimax theater at La Citee des Sciences et de l’Industrie, (Paris Science Museum) during this midterm school break this month, as 4Kids Entertainment International teams with SEGA, Upper Deck and France 3 for Dinosaur King Weekends.  Additionally, the weekends will also offer series themed activities, screenings, and games, including trying new video games, as well as educational materials and competitions for visitors.  Dinosaur King debuted in France in August 2008.

Knowledge Adventure, creator/producers of K3-10 targeted 3D virtual worlds, launches new pre-paid game cards to its JumpStart offerings as the company expands to the online gaming market.  To support this initiative, Knowledge Adventure has partnered with game card provider, InComm, to help with the expansion and launch of JumpStart’s browser-based 3D virtual world slated to bow this holiday 2008.


Lucien Harrington is appointed to the new position of VP/Branding & Communications, Turner Entertainment Networks Asia (TENA).  Based in Hong Kong, Harrington will work with the senior team to develop brand and communications strategies to further expand Turner in the region.  Harrington joins TENA from Advertising Plaza Ltd, where he served as Managing Director. He was previously, VP/marketing, Walt Disney Company, Asia Pacific.
