Cynopsis: Kids!
10/10/12
Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 10, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang head to the big screen as Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios acquire rights to make a feature film based on the late Charles Schulz‘s iconic Peanuts franchise. The movie (not yet titled) is slated for release on November 25, 2015, which coincides with the 65th anniversary of the debut of the Peanuts comic strip and the 50th anniversary of the classic TV special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Steve Martino will direct the Peanuts feature. Martino directed (with Jimmy Hayward) Fox/Blue Sky’s feature film Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, as well as (with Michael Thurmeier) Fox’s movie Ice Age: Continental Drift. The screenplay for the movie will be written by Craig Schulz and the writing team of Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano. Craig Schulz and Bryan Schulz, respectively Charles Schulz’s son and grandson, along with Uliano are producing. The deal is the result of two years of conversations between the studio and the Schulz family about the creative direction of the movie. Key in bringing the deal together was Neil Cole, CEO and President, Iconix Brand Group, a joint venture with Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, formed Peanuts Worldwide in 2010, the home to the Peanuts property. Fox Animation Director of Development Ralph Millero, who worked closely with Vanessa Morrison, President Fox Animation and with the Schulz estate in securing the rights to the property.
Rollman Entertainment, a kid and family centric company founded by Eric S. Rollman former prexy of Marvel Animation and Saban/Fox Family Productions, inks a deal with Pidgeon Entertainment, a content development and intellectual property company founded by film producer Patrick D. Pidgeon, to develop a new animated TV series based on the classic British character Worzel Gummidge, created by Barbara Euphon Todd. Targeted to K5-12 and set for delivery in 2014, the new Worzel Gummidge (26×30) series will feature the quirky and mischievous scarecrow character, who is created by two local kids and magically comes to life one night. The newly re-imagined series takes place in a modern urban setting.
